1937 Special - front brake felt/anti-rattle?

So Im disassembling my 1937 Special front end. There is a "felt"? gasket on the inside of the backing plate, sandwiched against the plate by the four bolts that mount the knuckle to the backing plate. There is a 4"x5" piece of felt that has fallen apart and was wondering what material you would recommend to replace it. Do I get a piece of cotton felt at the hobby lobby or is there something more durable in the automotive trade. Thanks.

James, I believe it is just a dust stopper. I used felt from a fabric store on my '50.
