8E45E
The first Soviet car with a body "hatchback". https://youtu.be/YrojRmKKjFwThe Izh was not the first Russian hatchback. The Samara 2108 was designed and engineered as a hatchback and was first introduced in 1986. Craig
hanski
IzH started the hatchback in 1973; their products were based on Moskvitch cars.

8E45E
IzH started the hatchback in 1973; their products were based on Moskvitch cars. The 2126 is obvious, looking like a true hatchback. The 2125 is kind of ambiguous, appearing as a cross between a station wagon and a hatchback. Maybe GM used a 2125 to design the Malibu Maxx. Bleach
IzH started the hatchback in 1973; their products were based on Moskvitch cars. They were actually Moskvitches. Was that off the Renault or Fiat platform?Neither, it was their own design. They did however loosely copy the engine from a BMW design

hanski
The cars carried IzH emblems even if they were sold as Moskvitches in some countries. They were made in Izhevsk not in Moscow. Only the 1500 cc Moskvitch engine was, as mentioned, BMW inspired.
