Bill Stoneberg
I have had a minor power steering leak for a couple of years. Not enough to want to pull the pump/ resevoir out till now. I had the engine out so thought it was a good time to fix it.Holy cow, it took 2 of us 2 + hours of heating and PBBlaster and other assorted ways to get that damn pully off without bending it so we could replace the pump. It took me less time to pull the engine out.50 + years, I would say it had never been replaced.Replacement pumps are actually available at local at parts store for about 50 bucks so I am happy and it won't leak any more. Bill Stoneberg
I had no issues getting the nut off and yes we used an impact. It was getting the pulley off the shaft that was the bear to do... we tried the 3 jaw pullers and it was going to bend the pulley and the power steering puller didn't fit. so it was heating and beating time ... Didn't hurt anything but the pump I am replacing anyway.

steelman
I found out when I did mine last month that 63 and 65 have different shaft sizes. My 63 had a 65 pump on it. Not sure which a 64 uses, but someone have have forced the smaller pulley onto the larger shaft if it was replaced earlier in it's life. Dan may chime in and let us know the differences, as I don't remember, but there was a few thousands difference in the shaft sizes.
Seafoam65
I recently removed the pulley off my 65 pump which had never been removed in 50 years in order to repaint it and it came right offwith no problems. Guess I was lucky!

Someone also may have used an over sized key when they installed the pulley last.
