sosuzguy
My 89 /w 127k makes a strange bang bang noise when you go over rough road or over bumps, can even be felt in the car. It has had new front suspension componets replaced and struts but still makes this strange noise. Someone had mentioned something before on another thread but I can't find the response now. Thank you.
padgett
Sure it is in the front ? I'd check the egine/trans mounts first. Then the sway bar bushings.
sosuzguy
Sure it is in the front ? I'd check the egine/trans mounts first. Then the sway bar bushings.I am sure it is in the front. My 85 Somerset had the same banging in it. I know some of the engine mounts have been replaced and we are going to replaced any and the transmission mounts. I'm thinking it's maybe lower a frame bushings. Exhaust hangers have already been replaced.
sosuzguy
Anyone else had a front suspension noise like this that they were able to correct? Thanks
2seater
Yes. In my case it was the stabilizer bar bushings at the frame mounts. It doesn't take much movement to get metal-metal contact.
DAVES89
I'll have to remember that as my Red makes a noise. What I was going to do was put my car up on blocks and hit a few things with a dead blow hammer to see if I get a noise.
Jim
It also could be the bearing plates at the top of the struts. Normally these are not replaced when putting in new struts unless the installer noticed they are bad. There are a bunch of ball bearings in them and they can come out and then the plates will be loose and can make a noise.I have the upper strut bearing plates available.
