MikeC5
Does anyone happen to know if touring car top irons are interchangeable for what range of years? I'm looking for a set for a '25 and I imagine these didn't change much from year to year.
RickBrinker
Good luck finding them took me 15 yrs.to find a set and they cost more than I care to admit to.I was told they have to be for a 25 or
MikeC5
Hmm. Maybe I'll have to look into getting it fabricated. Maybe a wrought iron works can do it if I can come up with plans.
RickBrinker
The part that goes into the hole in the body has an angle cut just like the handle bars on a bicycle when you tighten it up it expands in the hole and holds in place
MikeC5
I believe Myers sells them. It sounds familiar. Maybe if I buy them I'll have better luck finding the irons...
Guest tmarvin
Hi Mike I have some top irons that can be rebuilt not sure what year you need I live in colchester ct 860-234-9948cell
dwollam
24 to early 26 for sure. Maybe into the 27 Standard touring would be the same. Sport touring top and windshield is 2" lower I believe.
trimacar
Fellow in Auburn California makes them, may be pricey, I don't know, but gotta be cheaper than searching forever. Search google for John's top irons. Or go to Top Sockets & Top Bows for Antique Cars by John's Enterprises Don't know his prices, but when it was run by previous owner they were very reasonable.... MikeC5
I did call and talk to John. He said he needs a core to rebuild, he doesn't make them from scratch. Sometimes he can sell you a core but unfortunately he did not have a core for this period of DB.
MikeC5
Do DBs have top irons and top sockets? I'm a little confused on this. The irons are the part that is a linkage on each side of the car. Are there separate sockets that go into these and then top bows? Can anyone post a photo of a socket (preferably for a 25).
Guest DBAcadia
Correct me if mistaken but aren't these stamped 114 L & 114 R ?
MikeC5
That would be useful to know. Where would it be found?
bobs1916
those numbered pieces are the BRACKETS that clamp the top when it is lowered. They are attached to the L and R side of the body. The sockets are the tapered hollow tubes that receive the wooden bows. The "iron" I believe are the flat iron struts that connect to the sockets with the associated fittings. . John in CA can rebuild all the often rusted out sockets and replace any rivets. He does need a core as stated.
MikeC5
So it sounds like the sockets are the hollow tubes that accept the top bow 'tenon'.

MikeC5
Thanks Jason. That does show the forward iron-to-socket joint well. I can't believe I missed it in the MIM....

Guest Canadian1925touring
Ah...that's what my car is missing...there is just a blank bolt in the body at the rear corners Check on youtube under 1925 dodge touring in a day or two...I took a video of my top bows for you to see what goes where. 1936 D2
Don't know if this will help much. Saw these on a 1919 at The Iola Old Car Show this year. May help with knowing what the earlier ones looked like??? (And I bet the exact spot you are looking for is not visible on these photos! - That would be typical!) MikeC5
Thanks guys. That's a nice looking '19 there. It's important to know what you're looking for doesn't look like too. The big giveaway on the early irons is where the 3 socket attaches to the 4th; very close to the pivot bolt. On the 25 it's more than 1/2 way up. These photos show the detail I was talking about.
