progoofoff
I think it had something to do with Fireball Roberts when he drove a 1955 CENTURY.

Dave@Moon
"Bumping" is removing creases using a hammer and dolly. In the good ol' days before Bondo it was a synonym for body work. In a few places you can still find body shops that use the term in their name to this day. (I just did a google search and found several.)
Dandy Dave
I thought it had something to do with the good old time you could have in the back seat of a Buick..... While you help the ladies with their paint... ..Then again.... Maybe Not. Dave Moon has it right, I've heard it before around body shops. Dandy Dave! wildcat1562
bumping, heating and cooling, bump it again, heat it and cool it to shrink it, it goes on and on until the dent is very nice ussually, then sometimes you filed it : or shaved it, for the high spotsi worked at a body shop 30 years back, and the old guy there leaded everything and bumped and heated and cooled and shaved it allwhile i pulled the dent out, mudded it and knocked down the high spots till it looked goodthe old guy taught me how to lead things back then, wish i would have kept at itGreg
