Are the shocks front or back? Why couldn't you use them?

What type of steel was used to making rear-end gears for the 1934 Buick? Temper, heat treat requirement? Any info ? I'm considering making my own for a different gear ratio..

1934 50 series Trans and rear-end lub?
Frank Wilkie replied to Frank Wilkie's topic in Buick - Pre War
thanks,, you didn't call me about your parts? I'm looking for some new or repo rear shock link bushings. Any idea if anyone of the suppliers have them? -
I have a 1934 Buick 50 series and I'm wanting to drain and refill the transmission and rear - end.. Shop manual call's out 90wt winter and 160 summer. What would you suggest today for a lubrication that won't attack any bronze bushing that may be in these units?
-
Getting ready to change out my trans and rear-end lub. What is now recommended that would not deteriate any bronze bushing that may be in these units.? I used a special lubrication for my 1930 Master some years back that wouldn't attack the bushings. It was a 600 wt.

I think you corrrect.. It's just I had read about that problem several years back. When I ran into my discovery of the rear end being over full I had remembered about this type of problem being discussed years ago.. Didn't know if it applied to a standard transmission or not.. I know the Buick manual says to use 90 wt. in winter and 160 in summer.. What poured out looked awful light, like about heavy duty oil..

I just checked my 34 rear-end for grease. Opened the inspection plug and it ran out. If I recall this may be over filling from the transmission running down the torque tube.. Am I correct in this? If so what seal is needed?
