  1. Thanks for these pictures. I am going to see the car next week and hopefully do a deal on it. The differences that I can see from the pictures you have sent are that the windshield stanchions are leaning back on the roadster and are upright on the duplex, also the roadster top has a pivot just behind the doors for the framework to fold up and down on. When I say about the bodies being the same, I was meaning the sheet metal work, so basically the firewall, doors, fenders, dickey seat, rear quarters, hood etc. I was not meaning the top or windshield, I could never afford an original soft top roadster and as this duplex doesn't have the actual duplex top but does come with some other roadster top frame, i thought that with a little modification it could be turned into a soft top roadster without to much trouble. It would be good if someone had a pair of windshield stanchions but I am guessing they are going to be pretty impossible to find. The guy tells me the top frame he has was from an earlier studebaker, but this maybe either incorrect and it maybe from another 1920's roadster, he did mention it maybe slightly wider. Of course one other option would be to make a duplex top for the car. How are they constructed? Are they timber framed or steel. Is the covering vinyl on metal or just pulled taught over the frame. Does anyone have any pictures of an original duplex top inside and out? If I buy this car I will post some pictures next week. Regards Wayne
  2. I see that the pics in the listing are dated feb 2010 is this when they were taken? Do you have any recent pics you can email me, my email is waynesmith78 at hotmail.com also you mention no title, is there anyway of obtaining a title? Any more information about the car would be appreciated, also do you have the chassis number? Regards Wayne
  3. Studeq, I have just sent you a message, Thanks Wayne
  4. I am looking at a 1925 Big 6 that is part restored, the owner describes it as a duplex phaeton, however the body is a roadster body, so I think he means it is a duplex roadster. There is currently no top attached to the car and the guy has a roadster top to go on it which he tells me is slightly earlier. My question is, are there any differences in the body of a duplex roadster and a convertible roadster. Is it the same body which either had a hard top or a soft top fitted at the factory. Are the windshields the same including the frame, how does the top frame fit to the body, does any one have any good pictures that I can look at? Are there any other differences between the two bodies? If I buy this car one thing I will require is a pair of rear fenders, does anyone have a spare one or both? Regards Wayne
  5. Still looking for an original manifold, or is there any other make that uses the same manifold?

  10. Stephen thanks for the pic, I have a copy of a brakes book I borrowed from a friend and, although it mentions the front brakes, it only shows a diagram of the rear brakes. The pic of the rear brakes shows the cable horizontally across the top and the star adjuster at the front (9 o'clock/3 o'clock position, Left/right brakes) Is the picture you have posted the front or rear brakes? Its interesting to see that the star adjuster is in the 10 o'clock position, I assume this is the right hand from brakes. None of the star adjusters on my car are in the position in your picture. I am wondering if when restored the back plates were put on in the wrong position and hence why the brakes are playing up. Can anyone state if the pic Stephen has posted is the same setup as on their car? Regards Wayne
  11. I have a copy of the workshop manual and have tried to set them up as per instructions, but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone had a pic of inside the brakes on a 1932 Olds, maybe when restored something was put back on wrong and this is causing the problem. Thanks Wayne
  12. There must be someone on here who can help!!! Thanks Wayne
  13. How much is the one on the bottom row far left, the matt ali one, this looks similar to the one fitted to my car? I have a 1928 Studebaker and am looking for a wiper for it as the original is slow at working, or do you supply rebuild kits for these? Regards Wayne
  14. I have a 1932 Olds F32 Patrician and the whole time I have owned it the brakes have squealed when being applied for the first few times on a journey. They grab hard and make a hell of a noise. Once they have warmed up they are ok and work well, but then if the cars stops and they cool down the next time you set off they are back to square one. The cars previous owners have all tried sorting this with different materials of lining and setting up in different ways. So far I have had the best results because when I first bought the car they would send you through the windshield whereas now they just screech loudly. I have taken to driving down the road with the emergency brake applied slightly to warm things up which then they are ok, but this is not really a remedy. I have spoken with a fellow 1932 Olds owner and he had the exact same problem, he had a few suggestions all of which I have tried but to no avail. I am hoping the knowledge base on here may have some pointers. Over to you guys!! Wayne Smith

  16. I have my 1951 Desoto convertible for sale in auction this saturday here in the UK see Lot 552 - Vintage and Classic Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia (Catalogue 2231) - Richard Edmonds Auctions - Auction Catalogues - i-bidder.com - Bid online at real auctions for more details or to bid
  17. I bought a rear bumper for what I was told was a 1951 Desoto but when it arrived from USA it is from a 1950 Desoto and so is of no use. I want to get my money back which was £125 but am open to a near offer. I paid £125 for it and then had it shipped to England, so whoever buys it in England is getting a bargain as no shipping required across the water. It is in used condition and the chrome is dull, but is fine for a daily driver. My number is 07723 347784 or 01454 313194 Located near Bristol.
  18. Can you please send me pics to waynesmith78@hotmail.com thanks
  19. You don't mention a price in your advert. How much are you wanting for them? Any pictures?
  20. I have just replaced the shoes on the rear of my 1929/30 commander and they are the same as your car. If you follow the print out listed above they should be excellent brakes, a friend had a copy of the black book that these pages came from and I followed them to the word and now have the best brakes I've ever had. Also note what it says about setting the lever arm at 70 degrees, I had to do this on my car. I am now going to attack the '28 dictator and hopefully get he brakes on that one as good! Wayne
  21. I was looking for a speedo cable for a 1928 dictator. Any leads appreciated Wayne
  22. The exhaust manifold on my 1928 studebaker dictator has cracked, Does anyone have a good useable manifold for sale. The part that is cracked is the main part that bolts to the block, I had the bottom part that diverts the gases to warm the inlet manifold welded and now upon reassembly the main exhaust manifold has cracked where the two parts bolt together. Any leads would be appreciated Wayne Smith
  23. Thanks I have emailed them and am waiting for a reply. Any other suggestions?? Wayne
