  1. Art any chance of some pictures of the trucks? Thanks Wayne
  2. Art I can't help, however I was wondering do you have a 1926 transmission for a standard 6 with the hydraulic setup for the brake booster? Regards Wayne
  3. Does anyone have any drawings of how this setup is laid out? I am still no further forward. Also any information on how the hydraulic pump in the transmission works would be greatly received. Regards Wayne
  4. No mention of make and model, but I would guess having the pennant louvre hood it is a Chrysler 70 or 77? Wayne Smith
  5. A couple of days ago I took my 1926 Standard 6 for its first drive. The car was restored by the previous owner. When driving it the brakes hardly work at all, except when in reverse and they work well. Upon inspection it would appear that the brake rods have been modified resulting in the front brakes not being able to operate. Someone has cut the rod linking the rear cross shaft to the front brakes and then welded the front half of the rods to a little plate which in turn they have bolted to the chassis. This results in the front rods not being able to move. This car has the brakes with the booster from the rear of the gearbox(transmission), does anyone have any diagrams or photos of the correct setup, so that I can put mine as it should be. I have checked all of the books I have and can't find a clear drawing of how it all should look. I will get the car over my pit later today and take some pictures of what I have so anyone with something similar can tell me what maybe wrong Any help would be appreciated. Wayne
  6. I have a 1929/30 GJ Commander which I am fitting new tires(tyres here in the UK) to. I have stripped the old tyres off of the rims and sandblasted/painted them. Now upon reassembly I notice that the toggle clamps are pulling out, of the rim by the rivets. I can repair these no problem but was wondering when fitting tyres is this clamp used to collapse the rim, by using a lever and sending it over centre, or is the pin meant to be pushed out and then a 3 legged rim tool used. On my 1928 Dictator the rims don't have the toggle clamp, and in the book I have it shows a tool which fits into the holes in the edge of he rim, which is then used to collapse the rim. The commander doesn't have any holes. Any help appreciated! Wayne
  7. Some more pictures, and a better description would help. What body style, what has been done to it, what needs doing to it. Unless its a roadster I would guess your asking price is on the high side. Wayne
  8. The big 6 engine was used for many years, from the mid teens,I think, with minor alterations. The valve keepers on earlier engines were a pin, whereas the later engines had the pressed metal keeper pictured above, which is the type required. Only one is needed. The big 6 stopped being used in the GH commander in 1929, the other Commander in 1929 was the GJ which had the smaller engine. Wayne
  9. The big 6 is the engine used in the 1928 GB Commander, the dictator has the smaller engine Wayne
  10. Vince I never realised you had replied I will give you a call tomorrow. In the meantime does anyone else have a valve keeper for a 1928 Big 6, as pictured above, or does anyone know if the 1931 model 54, Vince mentions, is the same? Regards Wayne
  11. Richard thanks for taking the time to put up a picture. I also was wondering about how you fasten it with the hole being smaller, or do you solder it in place, i.e. take the shell off and solder the badge one side with the cup the other? I did wonder if a 3 or 4 legged spring clip could be soldered on to the badge, a bit like the 2 legged one that holds the crank hole cover on. Wayne
  12. The badge on the radiator of my 1928 GE dictator, has come off. A previous owner had wedged a round piece of wood in the hole and then glued the badge to it. Obviously this is not original. The badge has evidence that at some point something was attached to the back, was this a short thread or a clip etc. Whatever was attached I assume will need silver soldering back on. A picture of an original would be great. Or if anyone has a complete original for sale please let me know Regards Wayne
  13. I have one wood wheel hub cap listed on ebay. It is in very good condition and may be of use to someone on here. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161284155735?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Wayne
  14. The Big 6 has the 354cu in straight 6 engine the others have smaller engines such as the 242cu in engine in the GE dictator. Wayne
  15. My 4 Studebakers here in the UK, the silver car is a 1930 Commander, the Burgundy one is a 1928 Dictator, the primed car is a 1926 big 6, and the green one is a 1926 standard 6. The standard 6 recently came from California and I am very grateful to Mark Houston for helping me to buy this car!! Wayne Smith
  16. If anyone is interested in specific pictures please get in touch.
  17. Try Spencer on bigpine (at) zoho.com I recently bought some 1926 big 6 wheels from him, along with 3 gearboxes and some rear lights, and shipped them to the UK, he was very helpful and had a lot of spares. Wayne Smith
  18. For sale is this 1958 Series one Diesel Land rover. It is currently still wearing its original paint having only covered 41,000 miles. The diesel engine runs very well and does not smoke. The Land rover is in the UK but I am willing to help with its export to the USA. I think you would be hard pushed to find a more original vehicle especially as an original diesel in original paint. For more information please PM me. The price is $20,000 plus shipping. As mentioned it is currently in the UK. I will upload some pictures tomorrow.
  19. Robert thanks for the reply, I am asking on behalf of a friend who does not use a computer much. He recently bought a 1928 GB Commander. I have looked in my Studebaker parts book and the valves are original part number 115388, this is for the type with a single groove for the keeper. The keepers are originally part number 115391. He spoke with Egge a couple of days ago and they informed him that they don't have any in stock but they are going to make a batch which will take a couple of weeks. From memory he said that they were between $30 and $40 each, I can't remember exactly. I am not sure if he has actually placed the order but I can find out. Egge don't do the keepers and he only requires one so if you have on that would be great. As for Bob Burk, I will send you a PM for his details as I also have a big 6 albeit a 1926 roadster, which needs a lot of work!! Regards Wayne
  20. I am looking for one valve keeper for a big 6 engine. A previous owner had installed one odd valve and cut/welded the keeper to make it fit. I have attached a picture of the keeper next to an original big 6 valve, new valves have now been ordered from Egge, so it is just the keeper that is required If anyone has one please get in touch with a price Regards Wayne
