  1. I have just put my 1951 desoto custom on the road and am now having starting problems when hot. I have tried cleaning the points, another coil, I have cleaned the carb, cleaned the plugs etc, but to no avail. I have just been out in the car and after 10 miles she stalled at a junction and refused to start, I tried a couple of things like putting the old coil back on etc but the battery soon ran flat. I jump started with a 12v battery 30 minutes later (the car is still 6 volt) and away it went. I am going to tidy up the wiring as some are fraid, but apart from this does anyone have any suggestions. There is a junction box which the shop manual calls a circuit breaker and resistor unit, which appeared to have the IGN and BAT leads the wrong way round, so I have now swapped them which maybe the problem but as yet I have not tried as the battery now needs charging. Is there anything obvious that I am missing, or any common fault with these cars. I should mention this is the inline 6 cylinder engine, and the carb is the one with the electronic connections to do with the kick down for the transmission. Any help grately received Wayne Smith
  2. Does anyone know a company or individual that would have a weather strip set for a 1951 Desoto custom convertible? I am after the whole lot to fit to my cars top frame including the rubbers that go along the front edge of the rear wind down window etc. Any help would be appreciated as I have looked on google with no luck Wayne Smith
  3. Just dropped the 'e' and retried on google, only to find loads of info. Ab Jenkins was David Abbott Jenkins. A Mormon carpenter, hence why his car was nicknamed the Mormon meteor. Wayne
  4. Does anyone know of a web site that has the history/story behind Abe Jenkins? I have done a google search but can't seem to come up with anything. What was Abe short for, was it Abraham, Able?? Or was it just Abe? Any info would be good Wayne Smith
  5. Richard where did you get the shackle pin bushes (in the end of the springs)? I need some for my 1930 chrysler 66 Wayne Smith
  6. I have just had my car inspected here in the UK and am now after some spring shackle bushes. The ones I require measure 1 3/8" OD and 5/8" bolt hole. They are 2 1/4" long and the outer part is 2" long. Anyone have a source in the UK or USA I would appreciate it thanks Wayne Smith
  7. John, that is spot on what I was looking for, thanks. I was going to try and make the special tool from an old 11" land rover brake drum I have kicking around but this sounds easier. I will let you know how I get on Thanks again Wayne Smith
  8. Lets hope so!! I did look in an old book regarding all types of brakes and it stated that for the Chrysler you need a setting up tool, a bit like a brake drum but with openings so that you can then set the space between the shoe and the drum witha feeler gauge and then tighten the cams etc, then you remove the tool and fit the wheel with brake drum. However I have next to no chance of getting the tool and I wouldn't think there are many that have one so others must set their brakes up in a certain way. All I need is to know what that way is! 9. I have recently bought a 1930 Chrysler 66 sedan and have been doing work on the brakes, none of them worked so I have cleaned and honed the cylinders, fitting new rubbers. I have had the brake shoes relined, etc. Now I have come to reassemble the brakes and can't work out how to adjust them. On the bottom of both shoes there is a cam adjuster and then 2/3rd's the way up there is a snail cam. How do you set the bottom adjuster in the right place? I have wooden wheels and no way of altering the cam when the wheel is fitted. Anyone with knowledge or advice on these brakes it would be appreciated Wayne Smith
  10. I could also do with a T nut as one of mine has the thread stripped wayne smith
  11. I am after a few parts to help put a 1951 desoto custom convertible back on the road. I need the window regulator and handle for the rear drivers side window. A top frame or at least the cast aluminium piece wherethe ram attaches on the drivers side. The CUSTOM badge for the front fender drivers side. Also does anyone have any information on how the top mechanism works as at the moment it doesn't. I haven't investigated yet but was wondering if anyone had a diagram etc I am in the UK but will be in Texas Nov - Dec so can have parts shipped to College station ready to bring back with me! thanks in advance Wayne Smith. waynesmith78@hotmail.com

  15. I am looking for a 1928 - 1930 studebaker, any model considered, but would prefer a sedan, coupe or roadster. I would prefer a car that is drivable although some work is not objected to. I already have a 1928 dictator and 1930 commander which are both on wedding work in the UK although they were both imported by myself from the USA. See www.kenskars.co.uk I can supply US references if required. If its a sedan I will put it on the weddings whereas if its a coupe or roadster it will be a toy for high days and holidays! My email is waynesmith78@hotmail.com

  18. I am looking for some interior door handles suitable for my 1928 studebaker dictator, the ones I have are shot, the splines are wore away. I don't mind handles off of a slightly later stude or other car for that matter as long as they are the same type ie held on my a spline and a nut that screws inside. Regards Wayne Smith
