1. Yes Tim I got your email, thanks, and I replied back. John, the car has had almost every thing replaced emission wise. Yes the cata convert is just about 3 years old and probably has less than 12k miles on it. Car has new plugs, wires, oil, filters..... I will check the vacuum lines from the canister.
2. Tim these are the numbers. High speed Low speed HC 137-321 140-319 CO .87-6.49 .79-7.43 The first set 137, is the standard, the second is what I tested at. I'll also email you something that will tell this story better and fast than I can type it.
3. I'm trying to correct some driveability problems. I need to try and find the "Idle Load Compensator" possibly the part number is 17111104, Differential vacuum delay valve part number on the part is 22526610 and a Vacuum regulator valve part number on the part is 22522518. The reason I say "part number on the part" because when I've went to aftermarket part stores and gave them the part numbers they came up with pictures of other parts that are part of the carb. The Buick dealership says these parts are discontinued, but they can order the last two through vintage parts for me. However they don't have a picture to see if it's the right part or not. Supposedly if they order it from Vintage they won't know how much it will cost or what it is till they get it and then I'll be obligated to buy it whether it's correct or not. ALSO: if any of you have the 79 to 85 Riv's that have a rattle in the rear wheel area while driving, more than likely it is the strut spring on the parking break strut. I thought that crazy rattle was going to drive me crazy looking for it. Recently my 85 Riv decided to not pass emissions, although it's done fine all previous years with a bottle of RXP. I finally gave in, bought at least $100 of parts, then applied for a low mileage waver. Only two more years then it's just saftey inspections. I am amazed that most "states" require cars to pass emissions testing till they are way into their 20's, for Texas it's 25 years, but most of the manufacturers discontinued the majority of the parts required to make the cars pass emissions. A lot of them are not being reproduced at this time either. Kind of makes you wonder who car is parked next door!!!
4. Last week I got an email that the lady was back at home and she and her husband would try to get the battery put in the car. These two people together don't know how to jump a car off. I offered to put it in myself for her but she hasn't taken me up on that. I suspect soon they will get real tired of it sitting there and them messing with it and the deal might get even sweeter! I'll let you all know when it happens.
5. John, I have a 79 service manual if that might help. Other than that I can't add anymore.
6. This isn't Riviera to me. I have to be able to squint and at least see some feature that's like a previous generation.
7. Nah I haven't bought it YET. I still want to hear it run and test drive it first. Battery must have a dead cell it will not even turn over trying to jump it! The owners have to go buy a new battery but it looks like I'll be putting it in for them, neither of them know how to jump start a car! More as it transpires....

9. Here are the pictures. They aren't real good though.
10. Thank you John, I was hoping you'd have something to offer. That's great information I can keep in mind once they get a new battery for the car so I can hear it run!
11. A lady has contacted me wanting to sell her 95. She bought it new and it has been garaged till the last 6 months. She said it makes a strange noise and was told the supercharger is going out. Others have said it's probably the supercharger gasket. 128k miles and taken care of very well. The seats don't even look like they have been sat in and the carpet isn't dirty at all. The paint has just a couple of very small daily driver scratches. She got scared of it with the noise and needed to be punctual to her responsibilities so she just bought a new car. She won't sell it to anyone unless she thinks they will fix it and take good care of it. She was originally thinking $1500 but thought that might be too much since she was quoted around $1200 to replace the supercharger. I think I might can pickup this car as a nice daily driver for around $800 to $1000. Does it seem like it's worth that if all it needs is a new supercharger gasket or worst case a new supercharger? What are some other things to look for or check out on this model? Thanks
12. No, it was already installed when I bought the car. Almost every aftermarket alarm will unlock the doors upon disarming if you already have power locks. Trunk unlock feature is something that can be added to most aftermarket alarms too. BTW while your making things cooler on your car if you like you can have the shop use a white LED to snake around behind your existing security light on your dash so they won't have to drill a hole in the dash and your security light will flash.
13. Larry I have an aftermarket alarm on my 85 Riv that will unlock the doors with a keyfob but not the trunk. I would suspect to get the trunk to unlock you'd have to run or switch the wire to the trunk release so it's hot during key off since the factory setup you have to have the ign on for it to work.
14. Pictures from Asheville. http://rides.webshots.com/album/559658802EbNRZY
15. If it isn't working I'd just replace it, that's what I did with mine. Yes they are still available at the dealer.
16. Larry, your chime module is plugged into the convience center. It is under the IP, to the left of the steering column. Sometimes it is NOT convenient to get to unless you also take off the lower IP lip. It is a black box that is about the size of a pack of smokes. In the two pictures below I had already taken out the chime module from this car. This is the convience center in relation to the light switch. See the side of it in relation to the parking brake release
17. I have been told by people in the undertaking business that no matter what kind of vault you select steel or concret, eventually water WILL get in.
18. Just incase anyone is interested. http://www.buriedcar.com/ http://www.kotv.com:80/
19. Cool... Does this car belong to anyone in the club? http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_29959-Buick-Riviera-1984.html
20. So how many Convoys to Asheville are planned?
21. Hey, I'm trying to find a short in my 1984 Riviera. For now I'm looking for the two fuseable links that feed the alarm. The service manual shows them taped to the wires between the fuse box and steering column. However I can't find them. Someone mentioned they were under the car near the starter! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
22. I know we are a few years off but I've had simular problems on my 84 Riv T-type. It has the factory alarm which hasn't been functional since I got it (security light won't even flash). The car all of a sudden started running the battery down about a month ago every 3 days. I found the alternator belt needed to be tightened a bit. Got that fixed and still every 3 days it would be so low it won't start the car. Then maybe by coincidence when I stopped using the power locks and started manually locking the doors the battery is staying up. I've not tested it yet with a DVM but will cross one across the quick disconnect terminals and see if it makes a difference with using the power locks or not. I was told after you key off 2 minutes later if the car has a draw of more than 30 or 40 miliamps you've got a short somewhere. This is much easier to do with a buddy to help watch the meter. BTW I also have an 85 Riv with an aftermarket alarm. It can sit for two weeks and the battery is never ran down!
23. I've never heard of that. Maybe your DD is getting ready to go bad? Maybe your car was manufactured in Canada and that's why it defaults to metrics?
24. Tom it shouldn't do that unless the car looses power. Are you disconnecting the battery?
