  1. I've owned the car for over 30 years, I did remove the screws and plate so that I could open the trunk and I don't remember if the lock works. The bodyshop would like the lock and bezel out of the trunk lid to sand and paint the lid. I may take the lid and try freeing it up. The other question I have is most key cylinders I've removed in the past needed to have the key installed so the tumbler would go past the housing I imagine this is the same set up. If that is the case then I should just saw it off and get a replacement cylinder. What do you think?
  2. Hi everyone my 48 Continental is at the body shop and I need to remove the trunk lid lock. I don't remember if the lock works but just need to remove the cylinder. It looks like there is a set screw the must hold the cylinder in place. Of course it's frozen. Can I drill it out to release the key cylinder? Any suggestions are welcomed. George.
  3. HI welcome to the site. There are plenty of helpful people so it shouldn't be a problem to get it fixed. Did you check for power at the coil when it wouldn't start? If it has power there then check for spark at the plug wires one or two of them. Also you take off the air cleaner and operate the gas pedal or rod to the carb and see if you fuel being sprayed into the carb. Lets us know what you find out. George
  4. It should be a '48 because the fog lights are clear with adjusting screws and '46 & '47 has amber built in lenses.
  5. I received my copy on 8/14. I had called Cornerstone Registration, Ldt the day before and they were going to send me another copy since their records shows mine was sent out and not returned. Their # is 763-420-7829. You will need your members number when you call.
  6. Hi everyone. The last issue of TWOTZ I have is March/April 2013. Did I miss the May/June issue? Thanks for info. George. By the way I uploaded two pictures of my 48 Continental ready for the trip to the body shop. After owning and driving it for 32 years I guess it time to do something with it.
  7. Thanks to all that that replied. I will check out the Ford senders and let you know how I make out. George.
  8. Hey everyone I have to replace the fuel tank sender in my '48 Continental. The one I purchased from Narragansett which was an aftermarket Steward/Warner sender is not accurate after sitting for a week but will read after putting gas in it. I thought that a Ford sender would work is this true? Thanks for any help. George.
  9. Hi Mr. Lynch the NAPA filter I use in my "48 Continental is a 1006. They generally have them in stock. Hope this helps.

  11. The fact that the evaporator freezes up means that you have a blockage in the system possibly at the evap. Also if you had a leak, the center of the compressor would stop turning to protect the compressor because the freon has oil mixed with it for lubrication. Yes I would bring it to an A/C specialist that is experianced with an older system. He should be able to diag the problem with gauges installed. Good luck George.
  12. Hi Lee no I didn't do anything about the fenders. Relatives visiting and some medical issue with family has put it on the back burner. If you would check with your friend and email me at gd4615@aol.com I would appreciated that. Please put "Lincoln fenders" in the subject space so I don't delete the email. Thanks George.
  13. Hers's a pic of my '48 just before going to a local car club meet 7/25/12.
  14. Here's a picture of my 48 Continental. I had it out Sunday for a meet. First time in two months I been able to drive it. It's been a very busy time.
  15. Hi I would be interested in the price for front fenders for a '48 Continental if you have a pair. Thanks George.
  16. I purchased the carpet kit from them two years ago. Here are two pictures. It looks good, probably won't win any trophies but I'm happy with the fit and quality. You get what you pay for. Hope this helps. George
  17. Before owning my '48 Continental I drove a '38 Ford Deluxe with cable brakes as my antique car. You had to plan your stops, it wasn't good on panic stops. I borrowed a cable lubricator that is used on motorcycles that work well for lubricating the cables. I found out the hard way how not to adjust the brakes. No damage but one hell of a sharp turn.
  18. I just purchased a window piston from them and they recommend Dextron ATF. I used silcone fluid a few years back in my pump and within two weeks it was ruined. They rebuild it and recommended ATF. On the window piston I replaced them 30 years ago when I first bought the Lincon and they lasted that long. Not bad. George.
  19. Thanks Ctskip. I checked with the person that I got the grilles from and he remembers seeing a picture of the vehicle they came off of. It was diffenitely a Lincoln. George.
  20. Thanks for the replies. I spoke with Dave Cole this evening, he had a '40 grille in the garage and checked, there was no part # on it. He did mention that the '39 is similar to the '40. He is going to send a sheet with the size specs so I can match them up. A friend lives close by that has a '41 I'll see if I can match it with his. I realize that the '41 has piece around the outer edge of the grille but they are the same size and can be interchanged. If all else fails I'll run up to the New Hampshire LCOC meet in early June and figure it out there. Thanks George
  21. Well that didn't generate any response. Lets try another way. Here is a picture of the grilles. If anyone can say for sure that they are a '40 grille and if the part number is somewhere on the grille I would appreciate it. I have them listed on ebay and if they are not original or not for a '40 Lincoln then I need to revise or cancel the auction. Thanks George.
  22. Hi I just came across left and right front grilles for a 1940 Lincoln. Does anyone know if they have part numbers on them and where I they are located. I haven't had the time to wire brush them to look. Thanks George.
  23. My #is 176631 the assemble date according to the production card from the Benson Ford Reserch Center is Nov. 25, 1947. Interesting to know.
  24. I checked NADA classic price guide and they both have a high price of 64,400 but the Lincoln convertible low price was 17,400 the Continental is 37,700. What bothered me was that Barrett/Jackson listed and sold it as a Continental. I thought that they were thorough in their research and info on the cars they auction. Hopefully the guy that spend $40 grand for the car knows what he bought.
