  1. Last year I started sorting out and setting up thousands of pieces and parts that Roy and Jeff Harper had saved up for years. It's an overwhelming task! And the plan was to have an open house sale sometime early this spring. But you all know what happened this year! Nobody's going anywhere or doing anything! So I thought I just share a few of the pictures. There's early teens and twenties parts from many makes. There's a few interesting tools and lots of other goodies. Is anybody still casting their own Pistons? There's a Van Norman piston grinder in here as well. A few early Chevy 4-cylinder engines pre-1929. There are model T and A engines there's a Durant and a Studebaker. All four cylinder engines. At this point I'm not sure how to do this. I'd like to get as much as I can for the family. I did have one guy come in and make an offer. I had a long discussion with him about how long it would take to remove it and what his total plan was and I didn't feel that it was going to be acceptable. Yes I have many more pictures!
  2. 429 has the oil pump in the aluminum front timing cover. dirty oil can wear out the pump case allowing oil pressure to drop. With long-time oil pressure drop, the cam bearings go bad, lifter noise begins and general engine failure comes along. I have had several Cadillac 429 engines apart to rebuild. 1964 to 1967. ALL of them that failed did so because of oil pressure failure. The worst cases began with incorrectly installed valve cover gaskets. the head design allows oil to build up around the valve covers. If the valve cover has ANY leak at all, the oil loss adds to premature engine failure. I have at least 4 engines here that are for parts only, failed due to oil pressure loss. The 1963 Cad 390 is also in this same scenario. The 49 to 62 Cad engines are the best overhead engines that came out of Cadillac since the 346 flathead!
  3. OK-- Here it is. Test running done. Last adjustments made. Ready to go in the restored 28' Shepard.
  4. Correct! I knew it was Lycoming. I couldn't find a picture. This is great! Thanks for the picture!
  5. My bad! YES, 6 ports! ---- I'm in the shop working on a Packard 8, so I have 8 cylinders in my head. OOPS
  6. OK, So I know some of you like puzzles. You did great with the old engine photos I posted. Now I am getting a little more into identifying parts. Any guesses? Eight ports on each manifold.
  7. The plan was to have the boat at the Packard Western Nationals and Rohnert Park California the end of June but of course all that's canceled. So after we get the thing back together I'll post some pictures.
  8. I just finished this rebuild. Actually, this one is the marine engine and goes in a restored 22' Shepard Mahogany boat. I also have another 356 that will be on a display stand. The other engine is the passenger car specification. The marine version is a right hand rotation, yes, opposite rotation from the car engine.
  9. HA! Well, this pandemic has certainly caused all action to come to a halt! I basically put the car away for now. I still have some things going, but with all the "shelter in place" requirements, no one is taking a chance on catching this COVID19 virus.
  10. Yes the Chevy's the easiest one of the bunch to identify.
  11. Okay how about the next picture? Let me see if I can attach it. I'm going to have to download these from my phone to my computer and resize them and post them that way. Not like I don't have anything else to do these days!
  12. Here's another picture. One of them's going to be easy for you to identify.
  13. Helping clean up and organize my neighbors goodies. Unfortunately he passed away in 1999 and everything sat until recently when a decision was finally made to clean the place up. I was going to have a swap meet barn sale whatever you call it, but with this pandemic we're dealing with, I'm not sure when we'll be able to do that. So I thought I'd share some pictures with you just for fun. Here they go if I can get them to attach! I'm doing this from my phone instead of with my PC in my office. Here goes let's see what I can do. Well it looks like my photo files are too large! So you only get one at a time. Here's the first one.
  14. Napa Ca. No problem sharing where. I WANT this stuff to go to folks that can use it! I'll try posting more photos from my phone.

  16. Just found this tucked in with some old family photos. I know my grandfather had speedsters and race cars, not sure about this photo at all. When my dad was a teenager, he built race cars for my grandfather. There is one more photo somewhere of grandpa in another speedster.
  17. Well, I still have the Cadillac. Have had a few contacts that claimed to be buyers but when I asked for name, where they were living and phone number, they vanished into the twilight zone. I still have one that flew in from the east coast, looked a the car, went for a ride (I drove) and told me he wants it as soon as he has his money in place. Meanwhile, the car is For Sale to the first acceptable offer. No deposits, no hold until you fill your bank account, no trades. Here is a new video:
  18. I just had the Cadillac out for a new video. I have two guys with offers on the table, but have not seen any cash from either of them yet. First guy requested more information about engine condition, so I pulled the heads and pan, checked out crank bearing clearances, pulled all the valves to give them a little touch-up. Rebuilt the vacuum pump and did some painting. The engine looks like it was totally rebuilt during the complete restoration. Odometer just turned 400 miles. The notes Ted made when he was restoring the car, say he had all the instruments restored and set to zero, so I suppose the car has 400 miles since it was restored.
  19. I know I can go to the parts house and buy a hose- WHERE do they get it? What I am looking for is the aftermarket MFG that is making them now, not Gates or Edelmann, ACDelco. If you have bought a hose from a supplier online for an obscure car, it could be from an aftermarket source. Example, if you buy a n ignition switch or a brake wheel cylinder, it is probably made in China or Taiwan or somewhere else. If you have ever walked the isles at the AAPEX show, you saw the actual manufacture there. You show them a sample, tell them you want 10,000 made and they will make it happen. Even put them in boxes of your style and or label. This is the contact I am looking for that I lost after my last attendance at SEAM and AAPEX.
  20. Anyone care to share who the source is for making High Pressure Power Steering hoses? From what I see on the market today, they all LOOK like they are coming from the same source. I know there were some vendors at the SEMA event, Now I cant find my notes from SEMA and aapex. Any help?
  21. Just got a text message from the guy that has looked at the Studebaker. Not much help at all! Says the wheelbase is 120" (wrong) and he counted the grill slats at 44 or 45. Says he cant read the numbers on the door plate. And did not confirm a price or take more pictures. Not Easy getting information!
  22. Me too-- Looked at all my books, showed it to a couple guys... Got nothing so far,. Thanks for turning the picture right side up!
