  1. Wow, I cannot believe that you would buy a car like this and no so amazingly little about it! Is this a joke or actually a serious inquiry?
  2. Gentlemen, In my defense, I can report that I have made every one of my cars driveable (some were really stuck, too). No vehicle remains exposed to the weather. Problem is, being maxed out, I know I can't buy another and that is torture! (Picture is in jest. I'm nuts but not that nuts)
  3. At present, I am up to 15 antique cars ranging from 1915 to 1930, all in need of "something". I have several acres of land and a huge barn which houses most of the cars but have found it necessary to set up four Harbor Freight portable garages to house the rest. My place is starting to look like the circus came to town! Some guys can't walk past a beautiful woman without stopping. I can't walk past an old car without buying! Luckily,I am a pretty skilled amateur mechanic and have a well stocked shop but... Is there a support group for guys like me? an old duffer
  4. see my "for sale" ad in this column a ways back. Selling 22 Buick 4 cyl distributor and housing. $70. inside only surface rusty. shaft turns freely.
  5. for sale: 1922 Buick Model 37 (I believe) NOS head gasket, used distributor with breaker plates and parts, repaired distributor housing.Distributor shaft turns freely. Distributor housing was successfully repaired by brazing . $70 for head gasket. $70 for distributor w/parts and housing. $120 for everything + shipping. NOTE: I do not make money on shipping and charge exactly the amount given by the post office.
  6. Have the same problem with my 1940 Dodge. Trunk lid is really heavy. I can't figure out what must have assisted opening it. (springs, torsion rods, etc.) Please let me know if you figure this out. Thanks, Gary
  7. Have any of you attended the Charlotte car shows in April. The show appears to be huge. How does it compare to the fall Hershey event? Thanks in advance for all opinions!
  8. Looking to buy a headlight bucket and a bezel for my 1940 Dodge. Need not be perfect, even fair is OK.
  9. The logic of not including a price in a "car for sale" ad escapes me. I see this all the time in Hemmings. Lets face it, isn't the bottom line the price? Perhaps its done in an effort to keep out tire kickers but I find it plain annoying. Calling up the seller gives you a feeling of obligation, best avoided. I found that, in my flea market selling days, it always paid to put a price on everything because people were generally reluctant to ask . Pricing items resulted in much greater profits. Human nature, I guess.
  10. I've been running, of all things, a Model A, Zenith carburetor in my 1915 and 1920 Maxwells. Both run beautifully, no hiccups!
  11. The trunk lid spring assemblies are missing in my 40 Dodge and I have no idea how they attached or even what they look like. Anyone out there able to post a picture or describe? I sure would appreciate it.
  12. Never understood this kind of mentality. Would you replace the workings of a fine antique grandfather's clock with a quartz movement? How about a beautiful horn phonograph with a boom box installed? Why can't people appreciate the fine craftsmanship and engineering of these classic cars and drive them as they were intended? I find the biggest thrill of owning old cars is following the same operating procedures as the original owners. Sure, there are flaws and new cars do things better but who cares? I can understand hot rods built 70 years ago when these cars were all over the place but this kind of butchering has no place today as the supply of these beauties dwindles.
  13. I sure wish I could be in on the cleanup! What a treasure trove!
  14. I ordered Keith's hand cleaner on Amazon. Tried it and it's really good. Definitely better than GO-JO. Still planning to try all the suggestions in the quest to find the best greasy hands cleaner. Thank you all!
  15. You might want to check if a Chrysler distributor of the same year will work. Chrysler began selling warmed over Maxwells under the Chrysler name at this time.(4 cylinder) and the motors were almost identical. If so, Jay Astheime in PA should have one.
  16. If you like working on old cars, I'm sure you have a favorite hand cleaner you usually use when you clean up. I have been using GO-JO for years but lately it just doesn't seem to work as well as it used to. What do you think works best? (I've already heard about washing the supper dishes to clean hands!)
  17. Discovering a shorted out pigtail wire with missing insulation in the distributor of my 40 Dodge and not having a replacement I went about repairing it. I stripped off the remaining flaking insulation, sprayed the wire with spray contact cement and carefully wrapped it with thread, one end to the other, several times. I put some tension on the thread spool and simply wound the wire with the fingers of both hands until it was well wrapped. I then gave it another quick coating of spray contact cement and rolled it between my fingers. I replaced it in the distributor and the trouble is now gone, no more short. Wire remains flexible but is insulated. Hopefully this might help someone in need.

  19. Have two 1923 REO 6 cyl head gaskets. NOS. $50 each plus $14 shipping. Most gasket places charge $100 for the same.
  20. 1937 Chrysler 6 cylinder motor, runs but knocks and bearings are obviously really shot. Cylinder walls look surprisingly good. manifold included. Come and get it , free, located in RI. I don't need it and hope someone can use it.
  21. No pictures. don't show. Where is car located, am interested in purchasing.
  22. Looking to buy pair of trunk lid support springs for my 1940 Dodge sedan. Mine are missing so cannot offer a picture. Any help appreciated.
