  1. Hello everyone, I am going to be at the AACA Hershey meet next week and would like to meet anyone who will be there also. If you are going to be there I would like to recieve an email at (pai01@aol.com). Please send me the field location you will be at and I will try to come by and meet you. Or send me your cell number and I will give you a call when you get there so we can meet up with each other. Hoping to meet other Chalmers owners............Paul
  2. I visited the Harrah Collection back when Bill Harrah was alive. And I visited the LeMay Collection when Harold was alive on a number of occasions. While both these men were absolute gentlemen, and excellent host, I can tell you that the Harrah Collection pales by comparison when compared to the LeMay Collection. If I remember correctly the Harrah collection was supposed to consist of around 1200 to 1500 cars. Harold's collection is well over 2000 cars and rumored to be almost twice that amount. His cars cover a wide range of makes and years and consist of everything from excellent original to concours quality automobiles. What a treat to see. Don't miss the opportunity to visit it if you can. And I haven't even addressed the issue of the LeMay memorabilia. That's another discussion by itself. Paul
  3. My show room (storage area) floor has 8 inches of gravel on top of hard clay, a vapor barrier, 6 inches of concrete, and 0.120 mills of chemical resistant epoxy on top. The walls are nine inches thick and have R19 insulation in them. The ceiling has 24 inches of R30 insulation above it. We have a lot of rain during the winter and usually an ice storm or two. And in the summer it is not uncommon to have temperatures in the 90 plus range for days on end. But I have never had any problems storing my vehicles in this area and I keep about a dozen of them there year round. And some of my cars are early preteen wood bodied vehicles. I am not saying you should do the same thing, but it works. Paul
  4. I would like to buy a 1931 Model A coupe. I want a car that is an original or older restoration of a good car. I'm not interested in a modified car. I intend to drive it so it doesn't need to be a show car but it does need to be presentable. I don't mind doing some work on it if it is a righteous car. I also want a car that is realistically priced. Not some Barrett Jackson want-to-be. If you have a car that meets my request, please contact me. Thanks......Paul
  5. Years ago I had a friend who had a similiar problem. We tried everything known to stop the oil leak and could not. Finally I pulled the rear main cap one evening and discovered that the rebuilder had cut the oil groove in the wrong direction. When cut properly, and looking down on the bearing surface from the rear of the engine, the grove should run for the right lower corner to the left upper corner. That way the rotation of the crankshaft pumps the oil back in the direction of the oil pan. If cut in the wrong direction the crankshaft pumps the oil towards the flywheel causing excessive oil leakage. I changed the new cap with an old one I had (after scraping the surfaces)and which had the grove cut in the right direction, and the leak went completely away. Afterwards I did some research on the subject and found a lot of information about cutting the oil groove in the right direction in my DYKES manuals. Try this, it might be your problem. Best......Paul
  6. Can you tell me the dimensions of the round gas tank. I need one for a project I am working on. Maybe this is the one. Thanks..........Paul
  7. Please email me at pai01@aol.com. I have a 1929 radio and would like to exchange photos and info with you. Pistoncollector
  8. Do you have any photos you can send of your radio. I have a 1929 Packard with a radio made by Browning and Blake mounted in the dash. The car is an Individual Custom designed and built by Ray Dietrich. Paul
  9. I just got my latest Chalmers Registry Newsletter this weekend. I was very interested in the cover story about Mike Morris's 1912 Chalmers. In the write up Mike mentions that the previous was owner of his car was George Jensen who lived in California. Well, I own a 1910 Chalmers Detroit Model K30 that was also owned by George Jensen. I am told that he did the restoration in the late fifties and sold it to a Mr. Richard Mitchell in the early sixties. Dick Mitchell, also lived in California and drove the car on many tours in that area until he became terminally ill and sold the car to the family I bought it from. They live in Salt Lake City Utah. I don't know any history for my car prior to George Jensen. I would like to. Hopefully one of the readers of this thread might be able to share some information. Thanks Paul Ianuario (pistoncollector)
  10. Joe, Thanks for the great job you are doing. While I am a new Chalmers Registry member I understand the enormous amount of work that goes into taking over a project like the Registry Newsletter. Know that your efforts are appreciated. Paul Ianuario (pistoncollector)
  11. Can you send me some photos of your Buffalo wire wheels. My email address is: pai01@aol.com. What is your asking price for the wheels? Thanks.............Paul
  12. Rob, I have a 1908 Cadillac that I have owned for 21 years. I restored it and I know a little about these cars. If your friend's car is still available I would be interested in purchasing it. Feel free to contact me and we can discuss it. Paul
  13. OK Howard, Dan, Ron, and Rick. If you keep this up you might scare any other Chalmers Detroit owners away, if there are any out there. I am serious about wanting to find these other owners so that I can ask some questions about timing and related subjects. I would hate to haul this thing around the country and not get to drive it sometimes. And the Scotch was GOOOODDDD in Alabama. Paul Paul
  14. Thanks Peter. Will do. But I am also hoping to meet other owners, if there are any. PAI
  15. I own a 1910 Overland Model 42 speedster. I live in South Carolina so we are not that far apart. When you get your car home let me know if I can be of any help. And if you decide to sell your car let me know how much as I may be interested. PAI
  16. I have recently purchased a 1910 Chalmers Detroit touring and would like to make contact with other Chalmers Detroit owners as I have some questions about my car and its operation. I would also welcome any information or copies of literature or manuals that members might be willing to share. Thanks.......PAI
  17. Can you email me the price and some photos of your Buick? PAI
  18. So very early wire wheels of the knockoff design (no lug nuts) would actually be Houk and not Buffalo, is that correct? Are there any visable differences or do they look the same? Perhaps there is an identifying part number or something on them. PAI
  19. Does anyone out there have an idea what year Buffalo wire wheels became available in the automobile market? Also, has anyone seen an article or other information about Buffalo wire wheels? I need to learn about them from reading or corresponding with another collector. PAI
  20. Years ago I had a 1929 and a 1930 Pierce Arrow. They both ran UUR2 carbs on them. So maybe you might look at a Pierce carb kit for these years. And I have seen the UUR2 used on Duesenbergs too. You don't want to go there. Paul
  21. I have a 1920 Anderson (made in Rock Hill, South Carolina) that uses a REMY distributor. Can you tell me what the model number is? I may be able to use one of them. Paul
  22. I seem to remember some time back that someone was now supplying new or rebuilt running board mounted Prestolite tanks for brass era cars. But I can't seem to find the article now. I also seem to remember that someone was making new decals for the tanks. Again, I can't find out who. The question: Does anyone have this information? And if not, what do you do when you have a running board Prestolite tank that could use restoring and no one will fill? How is a fellow to run his headlights at night on an empty tank? Any suggestions? I would like to use gas as opposed to changing to Halogen bulbs and a battery. Paul
  23. Ok guys, I think that I can muster up the courage to remove the ring gently. But what is the secret to keeping paint on the circumference of the rim when you are reinstalling the lock ring? Paul
  24. The lock rings are on a set of Buffalo wire wheels from the teens. Does that help any? Paul
  25. Does anyone have a good safe method for removing and installing lock rings on rims. Not only do I want to do it safely without getting hurt but I would like to do it without scratching all the paint off the rim when I am reinstalling the ring. Perhaps someone has written a good "how to" article or something. Paul
