  1. Thanks Joe. I will get in touch with them. Did you have to give them the dimensions of your gaskets or did they know which ones you needed? Paul
  2. Ron, There is a company on the West Coast that makes custom head gaskets and supplies the material. I don't know its name but can find out for you as our mutual freind Mr. Greenfield has used them a number of times. Call me. Paul
  3. Does anyone have a source for gaskets? I need a set of intake and exhaust gaskets for my 1910 Overland Model 42. I could also use any part numbers or cross reference numbers for different gasket manufacturers. And last but not least if I had the dimensions I could possibily find them. The originals appear to be rings that were copper covered.
  4. Does anyone have a good source for gaskets for brass era automobiles? I need a set of intake and exhaust gaskets for my 1910 Overland Model 42. The originals appear to have been rings that were copper covered.
  5. Jon, Great feedback. I have located a Stromberg L2 with the cross flange, 2 11/16" centers, and the correct venturi size. So I am set for the carburator right now. But it is being shipped and I have not recieved it yet. In the meantime I checked the magneto and it is "hot". I am now trying to check the ignition timing of the engine. This is not real intuitive. I even asked a friend of mine who owns a 1910 Overland Model 42 and he wasn't sure what to do either. Do you have any information on timing this engine? Lastly, I plan to do a compression check to help determine the condition of the valves. Any other ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.............PAI
  6. Jon, What does your database say came on the 1910 Chalmers Detroit? Is it possible that they changed carbs from 1910 to 1911? Thanks for your help. PAI
  7. Thanks for the reply. An earlier response to my question suggests that the carb used was a Schebler model L. That might also be true. But I have a Schebler model L on my 1910 Overland model 42 and I can not get the engine to run properly with it. So I am not terribly impressed with this carb. I know that the car had to run well when it was new or it could not have been sold. So the carb should run OK now, right? Amazingly, about 80% of the folks with cars that originally came with the Schebler model L (that I know or have talked with) have put the Schebler on the shelf and replaced it with something that does a better job, like a Zenith or Stromberg. I will be looking for a carb like the one you suggest. PAI
  8. Does anyone know what make and model carb came on a 1910 Chalmers Detroit model 30? My car has a replacement carb on it and I would like to put an orignal one back on it. PAI
  9. Howard, Do you have their phone number or email address? Or should I look them up in the AACA Directory? PAI
  10. Does anyone out there know what make and model carburator was on a 1910 Chalmers Detroit Model "K" 30 ? I have a replacement carb on my car and would like to put an original one back on it. PAI
  11. I checked eBay and there are a lot of carburators out there but mostly for newer cars. I did arrive at the conclusion that I might be able to use a tractor carb also based on what I found available. PAI
  12. You're probablly right. Wiring it to the bank is probablly safer. I wasn't aware that this sort of thing was going on until a friend of mine told me the other day. PAI
  13. Wonder if anyone has ever asked them to wire the money to an account number? That might sort out the crooks from someone who honestly wants to buy your car. I do know that with the strong EURO there are a lot of people in Europe looking to buy cars in America due to the weak dollar. PAI
  14. I have a 1910 Overland. It uses a Schebler type L carburator. I have rebuilt the carb but it doesn't seem to function any better. The engine runs but appears to be starving for gas. But I have had the Schebler off the car so many times that it knows how to come off by its self now. So I am looking for another carb to use temporarily until I can figure out what is wrong with my Schebler. I can use any carb with a 2 11/16" center to center bolt on distance. It needs to be updraft and ideally it would have the flange perpendicular to the centerline of the carburator, but this is not a determining factor. Likely candidates are: Schebler, Stromberg, Zenith, Marvel If you have a solution to my carb problem, or a carb that I can purchase, please contact me. PAI
  15. Recently I purchased a car and initally thought that I might resell it. However, after getting it home and playing with it a while I decided to keep it. But prior to that, I let it be known that the car might be for sale. Since that time I have recieved a number of emails making very high offers on the car. They always seem to be written in poor English and want to know where to send the money if their offer is acceptable. The latest of these came from an email address in the UK. I have been told by a friend that this topic was discussed on the AACA forum earlier this year but I haven't been able to find the thread. Can anyone share information about this? Have any of you had a similiar experience? Just curious. PAI
  16. Tom, I sealed my 1908 Cadillac body with KiwkPoly also. It was painted with Martin Senior Urathane (Uraglo). It came out great! In fact, the car won " Best in Class" at almost every major Concours in the USA (including Pebble Beach) in 2002 and has won an AACA National Award and a VMCCA National Award as well. So I am very strong on Urathane paint. I am sure that there are many other satisfactory paint systems. But after 30 years of painting cars as a hobby I am very satisfied with the results that you can get from the Urathanes on the market today. That's my advice. PAI
  17. UBB7-ML-252520-ML- pistoncollector... Please, please start posting in the appropriate category. Moved your query to the Tech Questions area. As it is a double question, I'll move it to Buy/Sell in a few days based upon responses. Peter J. Heizmann
  18. I need to purchase a brass era oval gas tank or get mine repaired. Any ideas or sources? PAI
  19. UBB7-ML-252518-ML- pistoncollector...AGAIN, moved it to Tech Questions. ditto, ditto to previous reasons. Peter J. Heizmann
  20. Does anyone out there have information about Buffalo wire wheels? Information like sales literature, years of manufacture, wheel size and reference info, parts suppliers, etc. Please help. PAI
  21. I would like to know what a size H4 is. Is there a chart or some literature that shows the sizes? I recently purchased a 1910 automobile with as set of Buffalo wires on it and I need a front wheel. My tire size is 32x4 and if I am not mistaken that translates to a 24" rim size. Is that an H4 or an H5? I need to know. So if you can help educate me, please do. Better yet, if you have a 24" wheel for sale, please sell it to me. Thanks......PAI
  22. Your post does not include the photo or photos that you refer to in your text. Can you send them again? I might be interested in the wheels once I know the price and see the photos. Also, are you sure they are 20" and not 24"? Thanks..PAI
  23. UBB7-ML-252319-ML- pistoncollector..."again" please scroll down and post in the applicable category. If you go to the top, click on "Search", and, you will find this subject has been brought up over the years. A lot of great tips were discussed concerning brass, polishing, and, media to utilize. Thanks in advance, Peter J. Heizmann
  24. Does anyone out there have a secret brass cleaner that turns BROWN brass into the shinny kind? I recently bought a preteen car that has a lot of brass. It wasn't polished for so long that all of it is now BROWN. Regular polish doesn't seem to do any good. I suspect that I need to dip the parts in some sort of chemical to get them back to a basic yellow brass finish that I can polish. So, any suggestions?
  25. Do you still have the speedo/clock for sale? What condition is it in and what is your asking price? Thanks..........Paul
