  1. Good news regarding Rodger's son Andy. Just heard from Rodger and Andy is "A-OK". He now lives in Brooklyn rather than in the heart of NYC. Turns out where he lives they didn't even lose power.
  2. Glad to hear you were able to get in touch with him. Please keep the son (Andy) of our friend and fellow judge, Rodger Woodrum, in your thoughts and prayers. Andy lives in New York City. I have texted Rodger to check on Andy but have not heard back yet. Rodger is the friend that stays with us at AACA Meets.
  3. Here we had three days of non-stop rain. Then it changed over to snow during the night and is still snowing. It is clinging to everything. So far **knock on wood** we have not lost power. Bill had been out shoveling paths for us in the 2" of snow that was there, more now, and heard limbs breaking in some of the trees. He said that a tree in our neighbor's yard lost a limb. Stay safe everyone.
  4. Probably closer than you are Doug. Beckley has had some snow as of last night and it is about an hour south of us but at a higher elevation. There are ski areas there. We are within sight distance of the Kanawha River and it is warmer here than there by quite a bit. A few large, wet flakes of snow have been seen here. Overnight will tell the tale. Some areas have coverings of snow not that far from us. I know where Charles Town is because an uncle and his family lived there for many years and we visited them.
  5. Same here. Along with a husband that hunts and was on the Air Force pistol and rifle teams.
  6. Matt, thanks for letting me/us know that you are okay. Glad to hear it wasn't too bad. I have family in the path of the storm up north. Luckily none on the coast but still it will probably cause issues for them. After the storm that came through this summer many here are better prepared for if they loose power.
  7. Breezy but not bad at this point. The current issue is that it has been raining for more than 24 hours here where I live. There will be flooding even if it stopped right now. If that storm spawns more rain it will get way worse. We live up on a ridge so we won't get flooded. We could get some water across the basement floor as it used to be a garage on that end under our house. The seal between the cinder block wall and the basement floor in a couple of places leaks. At some point when we have the driveway redone we will have that all fixed. For now it is not a huge problem as the floor is still plain cement with a drain in it.
  8. Marty, this is such good advice that I copied and pasted it to an e-mail and sent it to my self to share with others. Thanks.
  9. MCHinson is in my thoughts as he lives in Wilmington. Please be safe Matt.
  10. The guy that shoes my horses, he is a retired Colonel of the W. Va. Army/Air National Guard (he served both branches in his job) calls meteorologists "weather guessers". In 1977 our Governor in W. Va., Jay Rockefeller, put out warnings about a storm our weather folks had told him about. It didn't happen. Many have not let him live it down. The very next year...we got buried by a storm that was worse than the one that had been predicted the year before. The people that had laughed at him and his efforts to keep people safe weren't prepared because they thought it would "blow over" and not happen just like the last time. Better to be prepared and not need to than to not be prepared and get slammed. It happened here folks.
  11. John, that's why I put the response I did. And you confirmed my thoughts with your story about your grandson. Cut and paste honestly is easy.
  12. I wonder if Sam Barnett would have information that would help? His father probably knew more about Marmons than anyone else. I will send a copy of the question to him.
  13. Thanks for letting me know Charlie. I was only out on the fields one day, Thursday. Bill didn't feel well on Wednesday and I got a blister (wrong socks with my Crocs sandals) and so I didn't go on Thursday. Bill and Rodger, our friend and fellow judge that stays with us, went to the fields. Bill and Rodger went again on Friday and I stayed in the camper to stay off of my foot. It was so windy that they came back early when the vendors were advised of possible high winds. I was able to run into a few friends but not everyone I had hoped to like you. Hopefully at another Meet next year.
  14. Yeah, kind of like "Petty Blue" on Richard Petty's racecars. It was a mix of some blue and some white paint he had left over. Probably the most recognizable color in NASCAR.
  15. An elecronic device that three year-olds can operate with ease and yet those of us with a few years on us want to hurl at a wall trying to learn about without freezing them up. Got one three months ago. It croaked and I had to get a new one under the warranty and start over. **sigh**
  16. I think that the treasure hunt aspect will always be there in a sense. But for those looking for a certain item, and those selling that certain item, it might be a good thing to be able to link them together through an app like is being discussed. It might be worth a try at least to see if it would work and be a viable option.
  17. So it would be like the printable list I make up, but would be available on smart phones, and more detailed, right? And if there was one of the scan-able square bar codes then it would load automaticly. Hmmm.... I think you might be on to something here.
  18. Trying using some baking soda with a mild soap/detergent. It is amazing what it will help clean off and yet not to damage. It can even be used to clean soft contact lenses and we all know how delicate those can be. I have used it on hard plastics and it will take that gooey gunky reside off of things like kids high chair trays and leave it squeaky clean. It will help shampoo take "product" out of hair and not damage the hair. Again, squeaky clean.
  19. Thanks for using it. I do plan to do the lists for 2013 but do wonder if folks use them and find them helpful.
  20. Glad to hear that the list of where to eat was helpful. Once you have been to Hershey then the fields make more sense as to where to find folks.
  21. Might depend on if a power seat was available from the factory for that year and that model. If yes then go for it. If no, and you plan to show it at AACA Meets, then no as deductions would be taken. If you don't plan to show it at AACA Meets then power it up if you want to.
  22. Shop Rat

    Thank You!

Bill and I already have our campground reservations in place to attend the 2013 Hershey Fall event.
  23. You should think about signing up for a Judging School and join us in this side of the hobby in 2013. Then you can have a hat you will REALLY cherish when you judge at Hershey next year. I have every hat that I have received at Hershey and a few other Meets like the AGNM at Shelbyville, TN this year.
  24. The new larger signage which was mounted higher was a big plus for those of us lining up for the judge's breakfast sign-in process. **two thumbs up** Also, the trend of letting us in earlier is a big plus. Many of the judges are now dealing with knee replacements, hip replacements and other mobility issues that are made worse by standing for long periods in one place on something like cement. Being able to sit down saves our joints and feet and makes judging easier on us. And it also makes it so much easier on us when we are the Team Captain. We can go through the paperwork sooner to organize it and make sure we have everything we need to do the job in a timely fashion. It also gives us time to chat with friends and judging team members before the offical part of the day starts. An item that was missing from the map and the announcements was where Admin. would be for this year. I was able to check with Vicki Bolton after the breakfast to find out. And an idea for the future would be to add on the map where the restrooms/porta-johns will be in the show field.
  25. Hey, one of y'all has to be there to sell stuff, right???? Sure was glad to run into you a couple of times. Thanks for ratting out Marty so that I could see him also.
