  1. Glad to hear that you are going with the safer option and getting the correct tires for your vehicle. Rick Marsh really does know what he is talking about when it comes to tires. Having had an older tire come apart (on our last trip of the year and Bill had planned on replacing them anyway in the spring but that didn't work out like he planned ) I think that you are making a wise choice.
  2. Good morning AlsGarage and welcome to the AACA Forums. Here is a group that you should check out. They are called IVAN. Cruise through their web-site and learn about them. My husband and I personally know the founder and some of the appraisers. We have done the legwork for three for the founder when he didn't have an appraiser in our area. Anyone that has used them that we sent have been very pleased with their work. Appraisals of Vehicles | I-VAN Appraises Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, Boats, and More

  4. You are welcome. Rick Marsh knows his stuff when it comes to tires. And there have been several discussions on the dangers of older tires. And making sure than new tires purchased are really new according to the markings on the sidewalls. Our previous RV had a rear inside dully tire come apart. Turned out the the tires were made in 2000, put on a 2001 chassis and then had the "coach" camper body put on in May of 2001 and we bought it the day after Thanksgiving 2001. It was listed as a 2002 model. the tire came apart and blew in 2010.
  5. I heard from Rick Marsh. Seems he doesn't check his earthlink e-mail very often. Here is what he sent to me regarding your question. "Good evening, Sorry for the late reply. I only check my earthlink account on occasion. This is an interesting situation. 6.70-15 bias ply tires have been available for sometime. It could be that 11 years ago, Universal wasn't suppling them but, others were. I know because I bought a set of 7.10-15s in 2000 and they had 6.70s in stock from the tire supplier. We tell our members that they should have the tires that came on the vehicle. If the correct size is not available, then we accept one size up or down. Technically, the 6.70-15 is currently available. If the tires in question are 11 years old, then they are past due for replacement due to age deterioration. I wouldn't give my grandson a ride in an antique car with 11 year old tires on it. Rick Marsh"
  6. This was discussed at length a year or so ago and the ruling was that there would be no deduction. If anyone can find that thread it would be MC (Matt) Hinson. He is a fellow judge and a wizard at finding thread on here. I did manage to find this thread about "glass logos/bugs". http://forums.aaca.org/f128/glass-logos-321747.html I know there is another one that addressed the deduction question.
  7. Sorry, not yet. I realized that I sent the e-mail to Rick during the Thanksgiving holiday. I will give it a few more days incase he is busy with catching up from maybe being away. I will check with him again if I don't hear back from him.
  8. Are you wanting to know what it might be worth to try to sell it or what it is worth to insure it?
  9. That could be the case. But if an eagle-eyed judge does catch it, and we find out it would require a deduction of any amount per tire, he could be out at least 4 (or more depending on if the spare(s) are the same as the ones on the ground) points at even one point per tire. And when someone has to be within the point break amount it could keep him from getting the award he is going after. Hopefully I will hear from Rick Marsh soon or he will maybe come on in person and give an offical ruling on this question.
  10. Just a question for interest's sake. Do you have a letter from the AACA stating that the tires you have were accepted at the time as being okay?
  11. Good morning Rooney3100. I just sent a copy of your question by e-mail to Erik (Rick) Marsh. He is the VP of Class Judging as well as the instructor for the Tire CJE. When I hear back from him I will let you know. Or he may come here and answer directly. Some Officers/Directors do come here and some don't.
  12. Here is how the owner of a beloved 1957 Chevy racecar used it to help save the life of a baby with a rare disease. Family of Rare Disease Baby 'Grateful' | ABC News - Yahoo!
  13. Franrow101010, my husband and I had a '58 Biscayne for several years. Many states due to the privacy laws will not release a vehicle's history. Some owners have gone from person to person working backward to find that out. Bill may still have items and books from when we had the car. The one we had was the 2-door version, Artic White on the top portions of the car and Cashmere Blue below.
  14. Might be helpful if you posted the directions you need for things to go in to rule out those not heading in those directions.
  15. That is wonderful news. And yes that description would make anyone cringe, man or woman. Hopefully he will heal quickly by being so young and be out causing trouble in no time.
  16. Steve, excellnt idea to post it also on the General Forum in addition to the Judges Forum. It will reach an even larger, untapped audience there. Many that are not already judges never come over to the Judging Forum.
  17. Prayers coming his way. Babies are way tougher than many realize. Just look at the little ones they found alive after the earthquake in Mexico. No one expected to find them alive after the amount of time they had been buried in the rubble of the hospital. Hopefully he will do fine and be many years older before they have to explain to him what he went through.
  18. A friend of mine that owns a 60's era muscle car had posted videos on Facebook of him lighting the tires up on a dead end road near where he lives. When I pointed out to him that a young person he is teaching to drive would see those videos, and might get the wrong impression about how a responsible driver drives, he took the videos down. In racing we had a saying, "Take it to the track". That's where this belongs, not on the streets and parking lots.
  19. We have the Garmin Nuvi and sometimes the only thing you can do is have it map a route from town to town when it doesn't want to plot the route you want. Print out a map and directions from the internet to have with you to then program the route you want on a GPS. Sometimes you just have to outsmart the thing.
  20. Sounds like you have taken a look at the list of Regions/Chapters and found a couple that might be close enough to check out. Contact the listed contact for them and find out when and where their meetings are held and go check the group out. Take a look too at the Buy/Sell Forum and see if there is anything listed there that interests you. Even if a vehicle is not close by you can ask someone in a club nearby if they could take a look see for you and maybe send you some photos if you can't inspect the vehicle yourself. Offering a payment or donation to their club usually is well received for their time and effort.
  21. Hi and welcome to the Forums. Where do you live? I ask because you might want to check out the closest AACA Region/Chapter to where you live. Most Regions/Chapters will be happy to have you come to some meetings to see what the AACA is all about. To become an actual member you must join the AACA National first. Then you can join a Region/Chapter. You do not have to join to come onto the Forums to ask questions or help others. These Forums are available to members and non-members. Are you wanting to find a car to fully restore at some point or one that you can fix up as you go? Different makes/models/years have different issues to look for. "Problem spots" if you will. And in the AACA we have folks that can guide you once you decide what it is that you want to buy. We also can refer you to professional antique vehicle appraisers that can help you avoid getting stuck with a bad vehicle or over charged for one.
  22. Very proud to be a member of this club. Thanks John, and Steve, for making this couple's day extra special.
  23. Thanks so much for sharing the photos. Glad it all worked out for them.
  24. Dale, I just sent you a private message with some information. Not sure how much the storm impacted the area over there or the members near where the wedding will be so they may or may not even be able to respond. But the info. will be a starting place. Best of luck.
