1. back for the same reason, i have a black and tan 88 in central/north florida that i need to get rid of. its in decent shape but not too far above a parts car. it has only 215k miles on it but the engine is from an 89 regal and is about 90k. the brakes in the front are new, calipers/rotors and the back had just been fixed too. the tires are about 12k miles old. on the problems .... well... it has some exhaust problem starting with a clogged cat that was ignored. that and the stereo has been stripped from it, i believe the stock one is still burried in the car. everything is as you would expect with a loved 200+k mile car, the body is in decent shape, only a few dings, the tail light is a bit foggy but not chipped at all, the paint is origional and has some small chipping on the front drivers side pannel... one of the headlamps likes to "wave". all the glass is in good shape and except for the windshield its dark tinted, dark as legal for FL, its like a 20%... i figure its just worth more as a parts car, whats good glass on a reatta go for? like 1500$? 2000$? yea well... hijacked post, sorry. ill be checking back, im going to need the car atleast spoken for by the end of the month otherwise it gets donated and who knows what its fate will be. would 2k be unreasonable? it should be running for maybe 500$, i just dont have the $ to sink into a car to sell it has sat for 2-3 months ummm it also has 16way powerseat, no cd (i could install one in the center armrest where i had mine) and no sun roof. thats it for now, ill be back checking back.
2. someone by the name of jimsmustang__(something)__ had big plans on modifying his or was it his friends reatta months back? does anyone know what came of this? i took a break from the forum for a while and never caught up on that, i believe i remember him saying something about shaving the handels and antenna and removing all the emblems, thats about it for what i remember. just wondering if any pics ever came from it. thanks
3. maybe a quick snapshot of the cd player? sounds like a better idea than an in the arm rest unit like mine
4. emailed him about 20 mins after the post was up, still no responce
5. wow, they look so ugly in the back of a truck like that
6. well, i have a pair of amps in the car and one powers the subs and one powers the mids/highs. ummm it wasnt too huge of a chore. my tapedecks been broken as long as ive had the car, that plus the fact that i have like 2 cassetts. the attena works fine, just as its supposed to, when i select radio instead of cd on the headunit the antenna goes up and when i change off of radio it goes down. my friend helped me and he installs stuff like LCDs and stereo setups professionally so he knew what he was doing, gave me a list of stuff to buy and in a night he helped me put everything in. i think i remember buying some kind of adaptor for the antenna, looked like it had a headphone outputknob thing on one end and was like an L, 9 inches or so by 2 and was black rubber with the wires inside it. i dunno if this helps you any or if your post was even in responce to mine, yea, its bed time
7. umm its not a cd changer but i put an alpine headunit, an "in dash" unit into my 88, i took out the bucket part in the center armrest and just mounted it vertically and it plays fine, after about the first 10 times you change the cd it isnt awkward anymore. i saw someone on cardomain, i think the handle was "djnap" or something and saw how he had done the same thing, its not a problem to mount it low enough that you can keep the arm rest down except for when your changing it, the only problem i had was when i origionaly mounted it it skipped a bunch so i pulled it out and put t in at an angle and now its fine unless i hit a bug bump like a speed bump.
8. i wouldnt have guessed on any real bad accident, the bumpers mostly lined up meaning maybe a small accident and all the lenses were cloudy, like, dark yellow cloudy so it apparently didnt break them. oh well, i was posting more for the database, i would not recomend anyone buying this car
9. Today was the first day in months that i saw two different reattas. one was a man named jerry who asked me if i needed any parts and then tried to give me jim finns phone number. i was like "yea, im familliar with jim". Jerrys car did not have a visible number on the dash and i thought it would be rude to ask. the other reatta i saw today was at 'airport autos', next to the local highschool. the number there is 386-(437)-2403 (i believe). the windshield was cracked on the passenger side, big crack, and a little bit of spiderwebbing. the window said '89 reatta $1,900 obo. the vin was 1g4ec11c2kb906844, it was white with red, almost maroon, interior. had 16 way seat and went downhill from there, as per the old man "the battery is dead as fart" so i couldnt check the computer and buttons and all. the rearview mirror was hanging by a wire, the actual mirror and motor on the passenger side was gone. the deivers side seat was really really really really worn, disgustingly worn. the passenger side was in very good shape. there was rust under the car. the tail lense was opaque. no cd, no sun, lots of poorly applied touchup paint. the door speaker pannels were medded up, broken and with the cloth removed, it looked like someone tried to pull the grille off and broke it, and then replaced the speakers (both sides) without taking the door pannels off and it looked like they were just shoved in. in MHO, the car isnt worth more than scrap. the only good thing about the car was the passenger seat and the carpets were all nice and the back pannels were in good shape. i dont think the car would be worth even 300 and then parting out because it looked like pretty much everything was broken. no milage listed but from the wear on the seat id guess way over 200k, the man said about 100k miles but no way in heck that that is true. well, atleast its a VIN number for the books and maybe its a POS but it might provide simulator parts for padgett, if it drives i wouldnt mind the hour it takes to get there but this dealer does not, in my experiance (late 80 'benz coup and an early 90s vette) come down on his prices and has everything tagged at way over its value
10. well its more than a little late but it kind of sneaked passed me. if anyones in the daytona beach (FL) area over thanksgiving there is a huge car show at the speed way the " TurkeyRodRun " if anyone makes plans to see the show maybe i could meet them there and drool over their reatta. also apparently there is a white reatta at one of the used car dealerships intown, ill have price/quality/vin info tomarrow. see ya there maybe
11. well, i have something similar but its a little more nasty than that. thinking about it it was doing something like that about a month ago so what i have may be the same problem just more advanced. padgett responded to my thread (AHHHH Ghost Throttle) with a thought and my car has been towed to the mechanic and ill know what he thinks tomarrow morning
12. so i get into my car after a days work at the grocery store and i start up my car, an 88, and it sets to idle then immediatly flutter. it seemed kind of violent so i called up the gauges screen and saw it getting readings from 700-6300 rpm which scared me a lot, ive never seen it read much over 4k . so i shut it off, let it sit for a min and restarted it to the same result. i put it in neutral and revved it a little but it still kept jumping as bad as it had before. so i turned it off, gave it 5 more mins and restarted it again to the same results so i shut it off and locked it up and got a ride home from a fried. im gonna go back to it tomarrow and see if i cant get it normal again and if i cant its getting a tow ride to the mechanic. any thoughts on why it might be doing this? thanks in advance
13. easier than getting parts out of the engine bay heres a faster just as easy fix take one towel, lay it on the ground in front of your tire. lay on the towel reach up switch bulbs. pick up towel and your done. it wasnt anything too difficult just peeking up there and its even easier of someone stands over you and looks down
14. ive had a cd player in my car for a few months now, a friend and i put it into the centerconsole armrest. all we did with the stock radio was dissconnect all the speakers from it. apparently it still thinks it can tune radio stations. my question is, if i remove the radio unit and the whole tapedeck setup will it mess up any of the touchscreen capability? i mean right now it just seems like an unnecessary draw on my battery and dead weight. any ideas? thanks in advanve
15. speedometer to 117 thismorning. felt like it still had a little more "go" i however, did not
16. i ran a kind of intake, not exactly what your talking about and i didnt have the time or effort to make it right so i just went to a cone anyway. but. i took a flat filter, k&n, and bent a pice of metal around 5 sides of it and attached dryer ducting from there to the airhose off the engine. i took the sensor and put it thru the ducting and taped it in place. i for the filter frame i took a metal pice designed for like a vent on a roof, it was flat and then had like a bowl shape in the middle of it. using a vice and a hammer i bent it to fit over and around the edges of the filter. the back of the pice was a 4 inche hole that fit right up with the ducting i was using. i mounted the filter to one of the mounts for the plastic gaurd that forces air up after the grille. the dryer ducting was pretty easy to bend and indent and since it was 4 inches instead of the 3 or so that the air hose was i didnt really worry, i just made sure not to have any holes. when i mounted the filter i made sure it didnt completly block off anything visible and i put it at some sort of an angle and it worked pretty well. a little more sound and the car seemed to pull a bit better. heh, also from straight on or facing the car from ahead and to the passenger side you saw the edge of a brightreddishorange filter, it looked pretty neat, i almost bought another filter and metal pice just to make the effect even on both sides but dicided that the money for another filter just for looks was too much and i didnt see a good way to pipe it and i dont think that another airsource would do me any good. good luck. btw, the honda filter had a better "grrrr sound at higher revs" and its easy to install and whenever it gets dirty i drop by walmart and pick up another one "intimidator" i think is what the box says, its just slapped on at the end of the airhose
17. my buddies brother does basic car stuff that a lot of kids like including flames in window tinting etc. he has a magnetic strip with a grove in it and a paint pen with an extra notch in it that rides the grove allowing you to make a single line about as long as you want, its got some give to it and conforms to curves very well. i dunno maybe this could helpl you somehow but i bet it would be cheeper to have someone else do it than to buy all the pens paints brushes and stuff
18. i spent under 700 having a riveara engine pulled an swapped, it was great, being in FL i found one with like 60k miles, a big step up from like 185k when i got the car
19. im 19 and i bought my reatta about a year ago for $1200. it was awesome but the engine was shot, i.e. if i sat at a light for too long it would stall and usually start. i swapped with an 89 regal and pretty much havent had a problem that HAD to be fixed since then. i replaced window motors, some buttons, and other small stuff and then put in a stereo. all around ive probably spent 3000-35000 and it still has a few things not quite right but it is deffinatly a unique car, it will never be mistaken for someone elses car. girl wise... its gotten me a date on all of one occasions where my messed up headlight was flapping up and down because theres something wrong with some part of it, anyway, got a number from a girl who laughed at it. but it is kind of ugly, it does sit a little high, but i love it and even with what ive spent i still couldnt buy a KIA. it had 185kish on it when i got it and the regal engine had 65k. its not a fast car but it has scoot, in my experiances it will beat your friends civic, 1.8t jetta, vr6 jetta, automatic mustangs, and even stick mustangs up to about 40mph. good luck and have fun
20. i am trying to take off the rear intrior pannels in my 88 to clean every square milimeter of them, some of the racls were hard to get at so now i want to take them apart. i am however having a poroblem of getting them off. i have inscrewed every visible screw from the coat hanger to the ones on the inside of the fold down pannel and i cant find the catch thats keeping it together, im assuming theres some trick to pulling a certain way to getting them off. any help would be appreciated
21. i got new tires a week ago an when i pulled into the spot at tire kingdom i remembered a horror story about scratched caps so i got down and i was able to pull the caps off with my hands. if you push on with one hand you can get the tips of your fingers on the rim or the opposite side and from there i stopped pushing with the first hand and got both hands on to the one side and was able to take them off, no damage. i had some sore finger by #4 but i think its worth it
22. hehe, mine rattles like theres no tomarrow. i may be headin up to orlando for a weekend in a month or so, id be more than happy to leave you with my car because i know that when i got it back it would be lightyears better than when i saw it last
23. if you had converted to LED clusters for your tail light bulbs do you think that it would still put too much strain on the unit to wire 2 sets of lights to it at a time? dont LEDs use substantually less power to ... light?
24. i believe im not mistaken but theres no limit on words or anything and if i were trying to sell a car i would make it sound as attractive as possible. maybe a little cleanup could be done? where abouts in CT?
