  1. Jaybird My AutoZone gasket set cam with paper gasket for the oil filter housing. I was told to use a 3.8 V6 rear main seal and 455 Buick front seal, I plan to try this set up on the 322 I am in the middle of rebuilding now.
  2. Tom I think the 322's with the seperate pulley from the damper are ballanced different than the motors with the one piece pulley/damper also.
  3. Gunny If yo have any trouble from Mobile, al to Gulfport, MS let me know I'm in Lucedale, MS. area code six oh one-766-0060
  4. Randy You can have the tubes if you pay what ever the shipping is. It may be easier to just send the small piece that plugs in to the pump in an envelope and get the rest locally, it's just tubes, tees, and stuff NAPA has in stock. The lines on all the cars I've seen come off the manifold and tee near the wiper motor.
  5. John You may have put your car in danger by just answering this post! LOL..
  6. Bill What is this loose a Buick piston week? My 56 did the same thing Saturday, started smoking, blowing oil through breathers, and missing. I removed the plugs on the left side (the one smoking) and #8 was fouled. I also found bent push rod on #8. Rebuild time
  7. Tom I think the bell housing pattern is the same but the 57 will have a different pattern and shape on the end of the crank than a 64 to 66 nailhead.
  8. Smaltzie If you have vacume at the pump I think I saw the vacume tubes from my parts car today if you need them.
  9. Smaltzie This is what you should have. The line from fuel pump bottom goes to a tee then wiper motor. The other side of the tee goes to front of intake manifold.
  10. Bill Do you know what nailhead dynaflow would work in his car behind a 322? Maybe a 56 Special trans? It seems the trans mounts torque balls interchange, could he just use a V8 tranny of the same length?
  11. Smalzie Yep, if you go that far you might as well do the front seals at least.
  12. Smalzie No but you'll have to pull the rear end ( almost any way ). Remove the lower shock and spring bolts, disconect the cross bar from the rear end and wire it to frame, disconect the emergency brake cable at front.the manual says to remove the rear but I've been able to pull it back enough with a come along to change torque ball with out disconecting the brake line and having to blead brakes. Oh yeh you'll have to use jack under the rear end and remove the wheels. Some times you can get a temp fix if the seal is out at the bottom only by loosening the seal cup and rotating the bad part to the top with out removing any thing else, mine has been working for a month like that while I get a seal shipped in.If you have all original seals you're going to end up replacing the front seals also soon and that requires a trans rear end removal.
  13. I have 4 Diamond Back radials on my stock 56 rims with no problems so far ( 2 years).
  14. smaltze Red trans fluid or motor oil?
  15. Brad The 53 322 had a one piece pulley and ballancer and the 55 had seperate pulley. Buick may have changed the ballance when they changed pulley style? If I remember correctly the 53 322 was an odd ball in the combustion chambers also.
  16. Brad I gave a 55 322 crank, flex plate, and balancer to a guy that had a 53 322. His machinist said they were different balance, and he had to use all three from the 55 to get the two pulley balancer. Judd
  17. If you post to the V8 Buick site and some one replies to your post you get an e-mail informing you of the reply. Maybe this would work better here than adding forums? Personally I have no problems any sites I follow except the yahoo sites that don't archive the attachments and are filled with add pop ups.
  18. Pete There is a chrome oval washer about half way down the back end of the door (in the jam), and a chrome 3/8 hex head bolt that hold the bottom of the rear window track in place. Do you have one of these in good shape? how much? Wish you were closer to the Mississippi Gulf Coast I might look at the whole car. Is the main chrome piece the drivers vent window rotates in pitted?
  19. Loren Have you tried clamping some big vise grips on it and turning them with a Cresent wrench?
  20. Fenderfan Just put gas in it and drive. I've run regular pump gas for 3 (30,000 miles) years as a daily driver and never had a problem with the 56 322 that has higher compretion than the 55. I drove it to Chicago and back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast last year 90mph all the way still runs great. My Muddy Waters cassette plays fine in the Buick! LOL
  21. Joe Thanks! I'll try that. Does this thing just glue on? It has screw treads on the back but no holes on my car are even close to a fit. None of the door rubber on this or my parts car is good enough to tell what it was. Thanks.
  22. Y'all Can any body tell me where these things go on front of my door? Steele says at at front end of flipper but I don't see any way it looks right. Thanks!
  23. Randy I'm almost positive they are different but I think a 56 Olds 2dr ht is the same. Judd
  24. Garland I had this problem with my 56 Special it was the air recirculating around the top of radiator. I used foam tubes for insulating water pipes one in front of radiator in gap to the core suport and one on bar that holds in insulation to hood it cured the problem unless I iddle for 15 minute or more. Judd
  25. Centurion In 1948 the C&G bought and converted this Buick for railcar service to replace a 1947 Nash that was to light for rail use. The photo was taken on September 9 1969 by Daniel F. Watson and is in the book Delta Route by Louis R. Saillard. That is all I know about the car other than it still ran in the mid 1990's when a friend from Memphis had a ride. Lets see e-bay sale, cherry one owner 48 Buick all original except for custom wheels. LOL. Judd
