  1. All that crappy weather up in Buffalo gave them time to do an extra nice job with quality coachwork LOL! Beautiful Car! Definitely an icon of the 20s.
  2. I'll be the contrarian, get some skirts on that car! H series Lincolns NEED them.... the V12 gods will drop all kinds of trouble upon those who run without them! They aren't supposed to look "modern" they are 60+ year old luxo-barges. Congrats on that car Wes, it's a real beauty.
  3. There was a 62 Valliant Signet listed on e-bay yesterday, but the ad was pulled (he had a string of non-applicable keywords in the listing) It looked like a pretty nice little car for fairly cheap. (I think it was in VA) Although they are considered "orphan cars" an early 60s Rambler American is hard to beat for economy and reliability, as long as the body shell isn't rusted out and you don't mind possibly having to rebuild a trunnion front end. (you only have to do it once, then keep it greased well) Being a young guy, you will appreciate the reclining seats that came in all Ramblers!
  4. Ford used the 5 on 5 1/2" wheels up until 96 or so for the pickups. They are so plentiful, many scrapyards will toss them in if you are a regular customer and buy something else, just to get rid of the tire on the rim.
  5. I wouldn't screw around with that connie at all, drive it till the wheels fall off, then worry about "restoring" it. It's beautiful the way it is. You can clean up the interior brightwork a little at a time yourself, you make it too nice and you will be afraid to drive it. There are enough trailer queens in this world.
  6. And if it still survives, it's likely sporting a 350 chebby.
  7. Looks pretty nice, even without the top. 26 is a good year, especially for a closed car up north, all steel, better brakes, tank in cowl, nickel radiator shell, etc. Head over to the MTFCA forum for more than you ever wanted to know about the T.
  8. Up North, a wee bit warmer in the winter too! congrats! It's a great feeling, you think it's quiet now, take it out in about 6" of fresh dry snow.... pure heaven.
  9. You and me both Bill! My father worked at Franklin just before they closed and he never had the opportunity to own one, and I seem to always miss out, a day late or a dollar short. How about posting a couple of pictures so that we can drool a little. (somebody will jump on it, Franklins are great cars and other than the Olympics, full classics)

  11. A good starting point for a driver/ ongoing project. Kind of makes me think of the term "a pretty good second hand car" as defined in the 60s.
  12. We had two dairy farms that delivered when I was a kid, Henderson's and Candee's. We used Candee's because they went to our church, and my dad had no use for the Henderson family. The local Dry Cleaner and both grocers delivered. The ice plant no longer delivered, but the coalyard did of course. None of those businesses are still operating. It doesn't seem like that long ago, but I guess it's coming up on half a century.... better go take my Geritol, never mind, that's gone now too!
  13. cool beans, thanks for the heads up!
  14. I need to get a new appraisal on my 36 for insurance purposes, I haven't changed the stated value in 6 years and between the things I've made right, and the general increases in value and repair costs, I could have a problem if I have a major claim. How often do you guys adjust your coverage on mid quality collector-drivers? (vs high end trailer queens, that's a different situation entirely)
  15. I don't know about e-bay, sometimes cars go stupid high, other times great deals can be had. For top dollar, check with RM auctions, they seem to be getting the most out of buyers, (on quality cars) marginal cars or beaters aren't selling well now, they tend to do a little better in the late spring-early summer.
  16. Flush the cooling system well and have your waterpumps rebuilt by Skip. Potential cooling problems solved. Replace the rubber parts in the brake system, that is seals and hoses, rebuild the master cylinder, replace any questionable steel lines, flush lines and fill with DOT4 fluid, turn or replace drums and replace shoes, adjust properly. Check and clean all electrical connections including grounds. You will not have any major problems. Drive it as much as you can!
  17. Is the same place that had the famous ultra rare "Opera T" a couple of months ago?
  18. here is a picture of the bolt on early type, the tower and linkage under the dash is one piece. the second photo is the push on type. Appparently both were available on the early models, or one was "borrowed" from a different model.
  19. BTW, the lighting wires terminate at the switch on the bottom of the column, on the switch you remove by popping the "bail" and turning the switch about 1/4 turn. That switch can be disassembled and cleaned too if necessary. There are no lighting wires up in the column by the wheel and horn button.
  20. My 36 has on screw on and one push on..... Somebody changed one or the other in order to make the wipers work and now I'm stuck, they work, but I have two different type wiper blades. I still want to find a set of good matching towers.
  21. How about DiNaples (sp?) north of Scranton? Dunmore maybe? I scored lots of goodies from there a few years back. There ysed to be a "live" yard and the hillside lot with lots of old stuff, on a good shale base so the rust problems were not too bad. I haven't been there in a good 10 years though...
  22. I can check mine tomorrow. The 36 should be the same, I think it is the right one that is a bit longer. They can be a real pain to reach, at least for somebody with hams for hands like me.
  23. I think it was in TWOTZ a couple of years ago; there were some WWII Europe photos of Zephyrs converted into ambulances and mobile canteens, also a couple of shots of a 36 commandeered by the Germans in OD/blackout with military markings running through a mudhole, sans skirts.
