1. Can't seem to find the link to add a photoshop PDF
2. Saw this article in RODZ #33 and thought of you/us. I know I'm probably breaking copyright laws and I'm sure this topic has been fully covered in The Way Of The Zephyr, But since so few of us seem to visit this site perhaps I can sneak it through. Also, RODZ is a great little mag. and I hope Josh Mills at www.millscustoms.com will get some business through his efforts at enlightening the world with his knowledge.
3. Perhaps this might help. I tried attaching photos. but who knows where they went?
4. Phil, Thank you for taking the time to post. As you know, I have a '41 3 window coupe. The turn signals work pretty good now. but I was going to add brake lights to the rear turn signal pods. I will look up your original post and get more info. Keith
5. Paul, I am an artist/sculptor by profession and in the past seven years have been reproducing many items items using silicone molds, many are complex clamshell molds. Are you looking for Glass reproduction or Red resin? Lenses are fairly easy to mold, Just need a good original to start with. Contact me off line at kc_lee@cox.net and I'll sent you a sample of my work. I'm am now in the process of molding a '41 steering wheel, very difficult, however I think I have the talent and know how to pull it off. I live in Las vegas and visit LA several times a year.
6. Heads up. Posted on ebay: 1942 rear deck/trunk light handle with keys.
7. Opps, My email is kc_lee@cox.net Is this the start of Old Timers Disease? Keith
8. I have now just updated my profile. If anyone needs to contact me off line my email is kl_lee@cox.net I am still looking for an old '40, '41 steering wheel. Will pay reasonable price and shipping. Keith
9. Phil, Yes that's the one. Thank you for capturing it, reducing it in size and posting it for me. I hope all is well with you. Bye the way, I have not seen Rolf on the posts lately. Keith
10. Opps. can't find the link to attach a photo./Users/keithlee/Desktop/after.jpg
11. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a beat-up old '40 or '41 Zephyr wheel. All I need is the metal rim, don't even need any plastic on it. The worse the better because I'll be removing the plastic anyway and sand blasting the core. I've checked with Merv Adkins but he has none at this time. I'm going use my restored rim to make a casting so I can duplicate '40 and '41 wheels. I've had years of experience casting and I have a good subject. I've attached my restored rim for reference. Let me know. Keith
12. Zman, sorry to get back to you so late..went out of town. The reason I asked in the first place was to see how many vendors are out there selling vent window rubber for Zephyrs. The last few years I have taken up the art of casting and each project I've tackled is a little more difficult than the last. This spring/ summer project will be vent rubber and '40/41 recast steering wheels. This being said, last year I produced and cast a Zephyr item not knowing a long-time club member was at the exact same time producing the exact same item. I would like to avoid that problem before I undertake this challenge. If there is interest I would like to share my progress through pictures and words of "how to cast" these two items. Keith
13. Hello all, have not posted in a long time. Does anyone know if anyone makes replacement vent window rubber for '40 thru '48 Lincolns? Not Continentals. Thanks
14. JWalker, In answer to your question. After painting the horn button, I took some Mequires (sp) fine gritt rubbing compound and with a cloth covering my index fingertip I carefully rubbed off the high lettering and the small outer rim. The chrome on the button is thin so you have to be carefull not to rub down to the brass.
15. In the last post I could not attach two photos. Here's the after shot. Thanks
16. Well.. it?s been awhile since I last posted. I wanted to share with you the restoration of my 41 Zephyr wheel. When I bought my ?41 it came with a post war wheel. I wanted to replace it with the right one. As many of you know, finding a decent soy-based plastic Ford wheel is a challenge. Most are cracked, warped and deteriorating. As an artist and good with my hands I felt I was up for the job. On my way through San Bernadino I stopped by Merv?s and bought a wheel, rough but restorable. The center section was egg shaped, the outer rim was deteriating. First I cut the top and bottom center section into small pieces using my Dremel drill. Marked the pieces so I'd know how they went back together. Then I made a jig to refit the pieces around the horn button hole. Epoxyed all the pieces together, bondoed the whole thing and started sanding and shaping. For the rim I v-cut the cracks, filled them with bondo, then several coats of fiberglass resin (no cloth, just resin) to smooth out the rim. More sanding, then primer/filler. To get the right tan color to match my dashboard knobs I went to the local hobby shop and matched the color to their 4 oz. cans of spray for military tanks and aircraft models. Attached are before and after shots. Thanks for letting me share.
17. Yes, the grommets were the last thing I touched. About two months went by before it locked up, but then I didn't drive it much in those two months. I changed the grommets because they were pretty shot, the rods were bent and the trans never shifted very smooth. The new parts didn't seem to change much, but then perhaps I had it mis-aligned. I'll take your suggestion, Peechers and Rolfs and check it out, thanks.
18. Thanks for the info. I'll keep everyone informed, however, It may be awhile being the car is 125 miles away and I don't see her as often as I would like.
19. Rolf, thanks for getting back to me so soon. Your answer to my question begs more questions from me. Before the lock up, I replaced the bushings and rubber gromets in the shift linkage, perhaps when I reassembled I miss-aligned something. Is there a way to tell if an inner spacer is broken without tearing the trans apart? If I do elect to rip into this, how extensive of tools do I need to do the job? Will I need to press bearings in and out? Are parts readaily availabe? Are there manuals out there showing how to rebuild Ford and Zephyr transmissions? I've rebuilt lots of stuff on cars, transmissions not being one of them.
20. It's been some time since I posted. Relocated to Vegas, but my "41 3 window is still in So Utah. My question is...My transmission locked up in second gear and I can't get it free. I had to drive home ( about two miles) in 2nd. The clutch is OK. Any sugestions on freeing it up would be appreciated. I shouted and cursed at it, but it did no good.
21. Is it possible to sell a Zephyr, any Zephyr on eBay WITHOUT mentioning Barrett-Jackson with the ever alluring $400,000 number? It's the biggest thing to happen to Zephyrs since they stopped making them in 1942. Maybe the 2006 Zephyr would sell better if somehow they teased you with the idea that someday it too might sell at B-j auction at some stratospheric number. Yes I know this has been talked about before. I just haven't talked to you guys in months and I don't have any really good questions. Rolf, still selling your coupe? I hope the circumstances that lead you to the decision has eased up.
22. Thanks Diz and Phil. I checked the source club site, found a name who rebuilds them. He said the same thing you said Phil. Pry it apart, clean it, put it back together...or send him 50 bucks. He said he would glady take my money for something I could do. Went to the local parts store and got a toggle switch for bypass surgery, until I get to the workbench and the original switch. Phil, did your ever find the conv. top parts you were looking for?
23. Having trouble with Igniting my zephyr candle. I traced it to a bad Ignition switch. The small box (approx 1 in x 5/8" x 5/8 tall) on top of the Ignition lock. Hot lead in, switch, power out to coil and elsewhere. The switch is activated by a small pin up from the Ign/steering wheel lock. My Z is a "41, so that switch is only on a few years. It's chrimped sealed, so getting inside looks to be a pain. Any suggestions/sources for a new one? Thanks. Keith
24. Cecil and Rolf, One could argue the club coupe is prettier, However: The entire line of ford in 1940 was outdated. The 1940 ford had it's origins in 1938 but the Chevy for 1940 was a brand new car. GM salesmen sold that (along with mechanical ) and once again Chevy beat Ford . Customers in 1940 wanted new. But, looking at the styling today, the classic look of the late 30's Ford (esp 1940) outsell Chevy by a wide margin, and will continue to do so. As to the three window vs. club coupe, I prefer the 3 window. Long deck, BIG blind spots and all. I also know that what I wrote you already know, I'm just showing off. As for info on club coupes. There's a "way of the Zephyr" mag. on Ebay that profiles that model.
25. Wow. Happy belated b'day Rolf! We must have some strange link, because Sunday the 26th also was my birthday. I turned 59...9/26/45. Last Saturday, my wife convinced me to enter my '41 3 window in the local car show. Came in with third place Unfinished. Beat out by the Mopar and Late street rod stuff. Better than last year...came in third place motorcycle! (Ran out of catagories). I'm now going to complain a little, cause I'm old now and can do that. Years ago when they had a car show one didn't have to pay to be in it. Your car was the attraction that brought in the crowd. Now the car owners and the public pay. Also they ( the judges) don't want to offend anyone so everybody gets a trophy! 200 cars, 200 trophies. I would have gotten a trophy if I enter the most popular division, '70's street! All I had to do is wait around till the judging and find out where I finally ended. That's how I came up with 3rd place motorcycle...and the reason my wife had to prod me to enter this year. But all things said and done, I'm glad I went. Met some really nice people, got to talk cars, found people interested in Zephyrs ...and that's what it's all about anyway.
