  1. I had this same problem. I thought the wiper arms would be the same as for Ford of the same year. Wrong. The Ford arms have a bend in them to clear the Ford windshield frame. The Ford wiper posts come straight out of the body below the windshield, so the designers put a small bend in the arm so the wiper blade will sit flush with the frame. Since the Lincoln has chrome wiper towers which clears the windshield frame they use a wiper arm without the bend in them. Also I believe the Ford arms are shorter. The Ford arms will work, Since they fits the posts but will sit awkward. I'm still looking for a straight pair. Are the ones from Sacromento straight? Best of luck. Keith
  2. As some of you may know, Merv Adkins, a longtime club member and great guy, lives in Rancho Cucamonga, CA the scene of the devistating fire that has taking hundreds of homes. I don't know the path of the fire however, my prayer is that he and his family have come though this terrible ordeal safe. I know all of you join me in this thought.
  3. I too miss the Old Gramuddgen (spelling?)! His input was invalueable. Do come back.
  4. You are correct, self returning turn signals where first placed on the '41 model year of Zephyr. Also first for that year were: INSIDE push button door handles and OPTIONAL outside push button door handles. If you opted for the outside door buttons there was a spring installed on an arm in the frontof the door to pop the door open. Push down door lock buttons on the window sills where also first this year (The inside push button door handle necessitated that, for one could no longer lock the car from the inside by pushing the inside door handle forward.) Also available, an overdrive unit PLUS a columbia overdrive, giving the driver TWELVE forward speeds. On the other hand, the Ford did not offer turn signals as standard equipment on the '41 model. I believe they were an option.
  5. I forgot to mention, because of its location it is usally covered over with 60 years of crud. and will need to be wire brushed. It's stamped into the frame, letters about 3/16" high. When I needed to register my car I had to tear apart the floorboard trans cover and use to number on the bell housing because I couldn't find to the damn number on the frame. Only after I took out the radiator and cleaned the front end of the frame did I find it, by accident. Keith
  6. During my restoration project on my 41 coupe I collected a lot of reference photos. I doctored one to show you where the Serial Number is. Hope this helps. Keith
  7. Have you located someone yet for your wheel? If not, here's some sugestions. In my library I have a great book I bought last year "Steering Wheel Restoration Handbook" by Jack Turpin" Small, only 20 pages, filled with how-to photos. Small cracks to major rim transplants, step-by- step. I used the info to restore my wheel and it turned out great. This book was first printed in '81 (reprinted '98) and the author retired in 1990. Perhaps he, or his son Tony can direct you to someone who can repair your wheel. Contact: Jack Turpin, 34 Mountain Meadow Rd., Cleveland, Georgia 30528. Good luck, Diz.
  8. Springer, Thanks for the info. I hope I don't have to take the whole linkage apart because a previous owner replaced the V12 with a Cad. engine and I'm real short on working room on the front end of the shaft.
  9. On my '41 coupe the wire with the loop and the cap that holds it are loose. In fact, the cap will fall off because the wire has no tension. The car does not move under it's own power...yet. and I'm concerned what I'm in for. Do I need to rebuild that linkage? How big of a job is it? Thanks.
  10. Pete, here is some info on rubber. First try the classiified page on the LZ club page or here's what I did. I had a '41 ford and I now have a '41 LZ coupe and I found that the side vent windows were the same size. You can use the Ford vent window rubber from Dennis Carpernter. He's on the WEB under his name. I don't know if will work for a Continental coupe or convertible, but it might be worth a try to give them a call.
  11. Rolf, thanks for the info. Yes my Cad engine is bolted up to the LZ trans, however, somehow though the years the overdrive unit that originaly came with the car was removed. I know this because I can see the clean spot under the dash where the OD knob once had a home. Also, my car had a leather interior, which was at extra cost, and my hunch is that whoever sprang for the leather upgrade probably would have also added a overdrive. Last year I met a LZ owner who had a '41 with 12 forward speeds, the LZ overdrive and a columbia rear end. He said one could actually purchase a '41 (and only in '41) with both options. Again I would like to bring it back to original with the LZ overdrive. Is the tourque tube the same for both trannies?
  12. Thanks Rolf. One of the reasons I wanted to know about the retrofit is my '41 3 window coupe has a '62 Cad engine and my goal is to convert it back to an LZ engine. Another question... The '42 LZ engine has a larger displacement and after the war (the one in all the papers) they went back to the original displacement. Are the '42 engines more desirable? Are post war engines more reliable because of advance metalurgy technology because of the war? And, can I dress up a post war engine to look like a '41 without losing genie points?
  13. For the past several months I have noticed several for-sale ads for LZs retrofitted with Cadilac motors. I know they used to swap out with Ford V-8s, but why Cadilac?
  14. I am in the middle of restoring a 41 3 window coupe. My coupe has a packing shelf behind the seat and I would like to convert that space to jump seats since I know they were offered in '41. My question is...Are they the same jump seats as the 41 ford ( they fold down and forward) or are they like the 40 ford which fold down from the sides? It is my hunch that Lincoln would have used ford parts for such a small production run and I could pick up a set and use them. Any info would help me greatly.
