  1. Larry, Thanks for all the great photos.Esp. your grandson.
  2. West, Went through my archive of photos and found this. Here are two pictures of the wheel from the restored Tucker in the Merle Norman Museum. It is indeed a '42 zephyr Wheel. Also, this is a longshot but this gull wing wheel looks a lot like Dave's wheel except it doen't have the chrome stripes on the center bar.
  3. Dave, Nice wheel, beautiful wheel, but I don't think it's a Zephyr wheel. Check out the differences between yours and the known '42 wheel from Rolf's photo collection. Can anybody out there identify it? Keith
  4. Dave, Rare indeed. Could you take some close-up photos for me of the '42 wheel? Question: Did Lincoln use the exact same mold for the '46-'48 wheel? Esp. the vertical lines left and right of the horn ring. After I mold the '41 wheel (in pre-production) I will be working on the '42-48 wheel. If you find a pristine '41 wheel for trade, I would like to talk to you about buying your old '41 wheel...or some sort of trade for a new repro wheel. Dave, you are familiar with my work and I will be putting the same quality in the wheel repros.
  5. Tom, I got your PM, thank you for your questions. Yes, please look for any beat-up old zephyr wheels for my project. I will reimburse you for any cost of the wheel plus shipping. Also I will pay you a finders fee. This offer is good for anybody going to a swap meet and finds a '40-'48 wheel. The worst shape, the better. Remember, I'm only using the metal rim and center, all old plastic will be removed. I am recasting the wheel, NOT restoring with fillers or bondo. Thanks
  6. Here's an article on Zephyr gears I copied out of a car mag about a year ago. I'd give them credit but I can't remember where I found it. I hope it's big enough to read.[/ATTACH]
  7. Paul, I'm alive. I'm terribly sorry. I haven't checked my PM in months. In fact I forgot I had that option. I visit this site often but rarely log on. so I never see any blinking light to tell me I have a message. You can reach me at kc_lee@cox.net; BTW. IN about 3 months I'll be molding and casting '40 and '41 steering wheels. Looking to buy old donor rims for those years.
  8. Yes-sir-ree, A rare find indeed. Came across this ad, the person selling these rare '40 turn signal lenses states "These cars are very very rare and the parts are even rarer!! Good bidding." Those of you who have one of these very very rare '40 Zephyrs with the even rarer turn signals without lenses better hop to it.
  9. Thank you for your nice review of my work. Sorry to get back to you late, Christmas and all. In answer to your question, yes I will be making them in quantity, along with alot of other '40-'48 items. I hav'nt set a price point on the antenna base yet. I will however trade you one for an old '40-'41 Zephyr steering wheel. A wheel that is BEYOND restoring.(like the one attached, minus the horn ring.) If you have an old one hanging around I would love to have it. One of my goals for 2010 is to cast '40, '41 zephyr wheels. I have my restored wheel I did several years ago as a model, but I need cores. I have the formula down for color of the new recast wheels, they will match my horn button base.
  10. Thank you Harry for the well New Year wishes...and the same to you.
  11. Attached is the '41 horn base and Antenna base I molded. The rubber for the antenna base comes from Metro Moulded parts. BTW, thank you Phil for the photos you posted of dashboard knobs. I am now casting a copy of the bakalite window switch guard for hydraulic windows. It keeps you from breaking the small switch with your knee. I'll post a pix when I get a final casting. Still looking for '41 steering wheel donors for my next epic journey. It will be the same "Peach Glow" color as the horn base. I have a restored '41 wheel for a mold but I need the metal rings of several old steering wheels. Wheels that can't be saved.
  12. Thank you Phil and John for your answer. Earlier this summer I took on the project of molding and casting '41 dash and interior plastic. Well it's fall and I'm finally done. Attached is photo of the complete set. I would like to thank Dave Springer and esp. John Murphy for their assistance in this endeavor. Without John's help I could not have done it. The knobs are "peach glow" but the photos show them more brown than they actually are. Still looking for '41 steering wheel donors for my next epic journey. I have a restored '41 wheel for a mold but I need the metal rings of several old steering wheels. Wheels that can't be saved. Thanks for letting me share.
  13. I know the '42 lincolns had soft pale yellow knobs. What color is the lettering on the dash knobs? Any help would be appreciated. Keith
  14. Phil, Thank you for taking the time and effort to post these photos. I for one appreciate it, and enjoy all your posts. Good job.
  15. Today is Rolf's Birthday. Happy Birthday, Rolf. Hope you have a great one.
  16. Forget my last post. I'm getting stupid as I get older.
  17. Don't know if this helps, the O.D on the brass insert is .5 ", so the drill hole should be the same. K
  18. My, my Mssr. Bawatoe, You've been busy. Several weeks ago you replied to my post about dashboard knobs and you attached a photo of a '40 dash. Is that your '40? Question: Are the dash knobs original and are they the same color as the steering wheel, chocolate brown? Keep up the posting. I check this site every night and it's good to see more postings. K
  19. Don't know yet. On the old site I accessed the LZ forum through the Forum link and it went straight to the LZ posts, now it seems to go go to the general listing and I have to go down the list to Lincoln Zephyr. On some posts I can't view pictures without logging in first.
  20. Here are the rest of the photos. The last photo shows the difference between the traslucent knob (lft,) and tan opaque one. The white lettered knob is ready for the final mold.
  21. As some of you may know I’m an artist by profession and for the past eight years I’ve studied mold making and casting to further my art projects. One of my projects this year was to recast a ’40-’41 steering wheel, and also to duplicate the plastic knobs from my car, Attached are photos of my progress so far. The first photo is the original button; the second is a reproduction (number 11). Photo number three are urethane coins made from an uncirrulated mercury head dime, on top of a fifty cent piece, to show the detail obtainable using a silicone mold. The next photo shows copies from the clamshell mold (blue). These buttons are color tests ONLY and the numbers correspond to a color formula in a notebook. At the time the photo was taken (about three weeks ago) I had not cast the escutcheons yet. The next photo was taken today. It shows the door button and escutcheon ring, cigar lighter knob and a blank knob, I have also molded but not yet cast the rest of the escutcheon rings and some of the lettered dash knobs. The hardest part of this process is getting the color right. Any small variation in adding color to the opaque white formula would give wildly different results. My first efforts (the pix with all the buttons) the colors are opaque, not like the original Zephyr knobs. After a lot of experiments using different urethane formulas I am now able to duplicate the correct color consistently with every pour. I would now like to ask for your help. There are several knobs I am missing to complete the entire set. Here are the dash and window items I need to complete my dash and window set for my ’41. coupe. • Windshield wiper control knob • Ashtray knob (for the dash) • Turn signal handle • Shift knob • Vent window crank knob • Window crank knob And I’m not sure if I cast the right pushbutton for my car. The one shown in the photos has a large hole in the back. There is also one with a stem and one with a smooth face. My original did not come with the car. I know there is a reproduction company that I could buy these knobs and buttons, but then it would be defeating the purpose. As an artist I have the talent, time and pride in workmanship to make these reproductions. Sort of like the guy who rebuilds an engine vs. the guys who sends it out to a rebuilder. Anyway, here goes. 1. I could buy any extra buttons you have. 2. I could trade you any button or knob (s) that I have made for a button or knob you have. Even if it’s broken, I can rebuild it and make a casting. I could cast a knob or button in dark red if you like. You LOAN me your part, I make an impression (mold) of it and SEND IT BACK to you. Your part does NOT get damaged in any way in the process of making a silicone mold of it. It will take about 10 days to return your part, or parts to you. I will pay all shipping cost back to you. If it is a window knob, you do not have to take the plastic knob off the metal crank. Just send the crank and knob. I can make a cast of the just the plastic part. If you also need a reproduction of one of the parts you send me ( example: you have one window crank knob or door escutcheon and you need two or three ) I will make duplicates for you. Tell me your needs. I will NOT sell you a button or knob that I have made on this forum. It would not be fair to manufactures who make knob reproductions who advertise on the Zephyr Club website. I will only TRADE or BUY them from you. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks. BTW, I’m still looking for a ’40-’41 steering wheel ring (no plastic,or very little) Keith Lee kc_lee@cox.net
  22. Hello. I'm redoing my dash knobs for my '41 and need a little info. My knobs are tan. The letters on the knobs (L,H,S, C, T, D and HOOD), were they originally painted or just debossed and the color of the plastic? If painted, what color? Also, Were to knobs on the '46-"48 the same transparent red as the steering wheel. Were the letters painted? And...I've seen light yellow door buttons and knobs...what year did they belong too. Thanks, in a few days I'll post some pictures of my efforts. Keith
  23. I saw a pair of vent and side window stainless window frames for a '41 Zephyr (connie or zephyr conv.) on ebay. Two seperate listings but from the same guy out of Canada. Thought of yooz guys.. No bidders (yet), and it seems the auction ends in about two days. Check them out Keith
  24. Well, I always screw up putting photos on this site. Here (I hope are the photos) the photo is of the original upgraded leather door panel (drivers side) of my '41 3 Window. this photo is low res. and so it's hard to read the inches. If anyone needs a larger, and clearer shot of this photo just ask and I'll send it via email. If I get the attachment thing right, I'll try to post the photo of me holding the build card of my '41. Last June I went to the Bensen Reseach Center, gave them my registration number and within five minutes I was holding the punch card to my car. Twenty dollars later I had a copy of both sides to take with me. Let's see if I can post all three. Thx for letting me blab.
  25. Keith here, Tom, I know that this is a little late in coming, but I drove over to St. George from Vegas to visit my "41 3 window in storage. I thought of you and your request.. I hope this one of the interior behind the door post is still of some value. I also shot the original leather driver door panel. This was an upgrade for my car in '41. Perhaps it might be of value for anyone wanting to know the pattern for leather upgrade 3 window.
