  1. Glenn, the guages are so confoundedly simple in the L's, they are seldom the problem, I would look to a gummy and sticky sending unit as the most likely problem, a good cleaning and manual exercise will usually put them to rights, if that fails the Ford Obsolete places carry the same sending unit new, just put the lincoln float arm on it, good luck, Rolf
  2. Looking through the new issue of TWOTZ, I was taken aback to see the several small items Schoppi and I decided to repro several years ago with the help of his friend in Germany with plastic casting skills beyond compare, but now there are at least 2 other folks also offering the very same items, from reports I have heard, their quality is not up to ours, but how much of a market is there for '41 Park light lenses and '36-'37 Tail light lenses?? Ahh, Free Enterprise, that is what made America great. Thanks for letting me vent, Happy New Year, Rolf
  3. I happen to know that Merv Adkins just obtained a Columbia in a '40 coupe, but that may be like the '41 Phil just measured, I do not know when they went wider myself, just thought I would pass it on, Rolf
  4. Thanks for the mention Cece, I have a whole pile of Lincoln V-12 front timing gear covers, with original muck on them, (it comes off with a little solvent and elbow grease), $5 a copy, + $8.10 USPS flat-rate shipping, rolf@got.net
  5. I just got the first 4 prototypes of new reproduced plastic lenses, and they are astounding, the Germans have sure got this art down pat!! Now available for interested folks to examine are 1938 and '39 tail light lenses, they are working on the rims, 1941 and Continental tail light lense, I just tried it in a 1941 housing I have, and it is perfect!! The other two are the 1940 parking light lense, and the 1941 license illuminator lense, write me if you are interested for picture etc at rolf@got.net
  6. r description reminds me of when I was a kid, and my dad's Chrysler products would ping and detonate when he shut them off, and he would always say, "bum gas", and now with all my enlightenment over 50 odd years, I would suspect low octane petrol, and too much compression in the engine, but barring that, I defer to Peecher, good luck in the solution, Rolf
  7. Hi Gang, I just bought some '41 bumper ends on a whim, and I am absolutely astounded at how nice they are!! Perfect new show quality chrome. and totally straight, really flawless. I am in a quandry as what to do with them, get some other bumper pieces show chromed to go with them? Or just sell the ends, if anyone is looking to upgrade their front bumper, let me know at rolf@got.net and lets talk, thank you, Rolf
  8. No OR, no Lincoln Zephyr cars had hubcaps like that, the script is close to the LZ, but all Z hupcaps had both words and sometimes a V-12 written on them, they are nice, but unique I guess to your lawnmower, Rolf
  9. Thats it Phil, thank you for bailing me out once again, Rolf
  10. My luck with attachments is abysmal, but see if this makes it, otherwise you can write me at rolf@got.net
  11. Looks OK Bill, but why aren't the tapers in the wheel and on the lugnuts adequate to center the wheel?? I don't understand!!
  12. Schoppi has just comunicated that he has reproduced the '36/'37 license plate illuminator lense, H13447, and its attaching part the H13446. He says they have come out really nice, testing the waters to see if anyone needs one, write for more details, rolf@got.net Thanks
  13. KR Wison, $130.00, the only sure way to cope with this problem
  14. Hi Cadi, I have been specialising in refurbishing '41 dash instrument clusters including the speedo needles, for several years, and my customers are apparently pleased and satisfied with them, as I have received no gripes, I have recently had some extra bezels show chromed, and have obtained brand new glasses for them, as well as the new clear speedo needle, that is so art-deco, with only it's red pointer showing the speed, while you can actually see your odometer numbers!! If interested, write me at rolf@got.net or check my ad on the LZOC web site, thanks
  15. NO NO NO BILL, '42 and early '46 is 2 15/16, late '46 went back to 2 7/8, like your '40, the other measurement needed may be the crank journal sizes on the rods, I am not sure of that size, but the rods should have 26H written on them, not 86H, the postwar engines had larger rod journals, that info is available, just not at my fingertips right now, hope that helps
  16. Hey Doug, my Kharma with pictures here has caught up with me again, write me at rolf@got.net and I will share pics and info of my 1st '40 club coupe, Rolf
  17. I am sure everyone here will be glad to help all we can Doug, a '40 club coupe was my first Zephyr too back in 1954, see pic, would be glad to help with anything you would like to know
  18. Here you go, pricey, but a good outfit, and dead-on authentic repro's Narragansett Reproductions PO Box 51 107 Woodville Rd Wood River Jct RI 02894 401-364-3839
  19. Interesting Dave, people are always asking about these items, 1st are they authentic, with the "top hat" lug wrench and round post, friction jack, and 2nd, how much do they cost?? Thanks a lot
  20. Lots of people looking Jeff, not many buying without more particulars about condition and price, pictures would be good too, good luck
  21. Ok Ok, I can hear you guys now, ole Rolf has gone around the bend this time, but believe it or not the stainless steel hubcaps have a severe problem that a little timely maintenance can deter. The caps have a steel inner ring that attaches the 'cap to the wheel, I am finding a lot of rust in the caps that I am working on, see attachment and some sanding of them with 80 grit and working down to 320 grit on both the inner and outer sides of the steel inner ring, then a heavy coat of spray on light gray primer, which matches very close to the way they were originally, seems to give the rings and the 'caps a new lease on life, thats all, just thought it might be of interest
  22. Hi Ralph, welcome to the forum. The extra 2 splash pans are probally the ones between the right and left sides of the engine and the frame, they are a little tough to install and take off, and are often left off when the engine is removed. I have no pictures of them installed, perhaps our picture guru Phil K can provide a pic, the pans are not vital, but they are supposed to be there, I hope that is the answer for the extras you have-
  23. We were talking about plastic parts before Norm, '41 Park-lite lenses, and '36-'37 tail-lite lenses I have in stock now, and I have found an exact source for new cluster glasses and have some now, $35 a pop, and we have a fix for the clouded speedo needles on '41's, and I am having some bezels "show" chromed by my plater in Arizona, so we can continue with the re-furbished clusters for '41's, and then I keep trying to improve the learning curve on straightening stainless hubcaps, and inventorying all the rusty junk I have acquired, but other than that, I just sort of loaf around-
  24. Yes Norm, I gave my man a '40 park lite lense to make plastic dupes of, it will probally be a very small quantity produced, as the lenses are a lot easier to find than good headlight rims, if the '41 HL rims we are trying to re pro are a success, I might try to borrow one of my buddies show-chromed '40 HL rims for a sample and get them made up too, or if there is no interest because they are plastic and a lot of money, I may just drop the whole endeavor
  25. Gradually coming to grips with the "pile" as it has come to be known, and have a new parts list and prices on http://www.lzoc.org/classifieds/partsforsale.htm Thanks for looking, Rolf
