  1. Check out the VIN tag-it is a Canadian Wildcat! These are not documented in the Sloan info I have, I wonder how many were made in Canada? Here is the Link and item #: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2417116965 Nice car! Custom with console, red and black.
  2. Thanks Robert! The only guy I know to go to on this stuff is "wild" Bill Burton. His 66 4-speed dual quad factory AL "X" manifold 3.91 posi coupe is awesome, as is his knowledge of Wildcats! Topcat on these boards. I've just tried to get book smart about them from all the factory literature. Plus all the junk cars I bought for parts. I am but an egg.
  3. See attachment, notice the orientation of the valve covers. Totally horizontal= nailhead! scrape oil crud off the machined block surface in front of the valley pan. you should be able to read the letters and numbers. letters to the Pass. side should be year and engine size/type. K=64 L=65 M=66 then the 401 is a T W=425 X=425 2-4bbl R=401 for a GS. in 66 the Riv could have a MW (Wildcat 465) or possibly MX (Super Wildcat!) The sequence of other ##'s would end in a serial #, which should match the one inside the driver's door(or where ever it is in 66). Riv people, please correct if there are any problems here. I had to check the "Standard Catalog of BUICK" about the availability of the 401 for the Riv, it says the 425 was standard.
  4. The engine code should be stamped on the block in the area just forward of the valley pan. clean this area up, on the Passenger side there should be letters stamped LW for the Wildcat 465(L = 65, W = 425 ci single 4bbl). The last digits of the numbers are serial numbers and should match up with the vin inside the driver door. Nice chrome air cleaner, does it have chrome valve covers too?
  5. Welcome to Buick ownership! You have picked my favorite car to start with. I'm restoring 2 Wildcat convertibles and 2 65 coupes. Sounds like you bought a good one. Start with the engine ID. If it has a air cleaner with Wildcat 445 its a 401 ci engine, rated @ 325 HP and 445 lb-ft torque. Optional engines were the Wildcat 465; 425 ci rated @ 340 HP and 465 lb-ft torque. If you found a Super Wildcat, you got the optional 2-4bbl 425 ci engine; 360 HP and 465 lb-ft torque. This one is all dressed up with finned aluminum valve covers and chrome air cleaner. Buick only made about 550 Super Wildcats (all body styles) in 1965, so thats a rare cat. The 401 is a fine engine, hooked up with the Super Turbine 400 transmission it can giddy up. Check out this website: www.buickstreet.com has some info. Find a shop manual, ebay or buick vendors. Search this site for Wildcat stuff. We talk about them pretty often. Any questions, post away!
  6. I think the make your own route may be the way to go myself. Check out the price of hubcaps, maybe max $80 for a set. Then buy a set of Riv centercaps from Mitch. Find a place to machine the plastic from the hubcaps to the proper size and shape. assemble and enjoy. Its very expensive to make the plastic part, and there has been about 10 responses positive to buy. Not really enough interest. It is all self interest in the end that motivates me, in my cars more than money. I have enough caps to do my 4 cars, so my interest is diminished and I am discouraged. But! The plastic people still have to get back to me on pricing(I'm trying to get them to reduce the cost). Never say never. Whatever! Leaving for BG in a few minutes, I will survey further there.
  7. I'll be driving the Red Custom Coupe! It looks great on Buickstreet.com, wish it could show that well! See ya there, Ted
  8. So little time...needed to adjust my Hurst shifter, now the transmission is out, next the engine! Has a little rear main leak while accelerating. Needs detailing. Needs Aluminum heads (hey, where did that come from?) Needs Gearvendors OD unit (whoa! ) See you next year. Just kidding, I just can't bring the GS. Have to come in the Wildcat! Cheers.
  9. Hey! there is a set here in Cincy a guy wants to sell.... I just saw one it looks pretty decent. Let me know. Ted
  10. I have some, if they are for the big cars. GS ones are different, I have no spares for thet. Let me know.
  11. It was originally designed to draw air from the connection on the carb that is right under the opening of the carb, passenger side, rear...if you take your air cleaner off you should see it.
  12. Jan, that tube is for choke heat. One side should go from the top of the carb for clean air, then the other tube should go to the choke. There is suction through the choke housing, drawing air through the tube. The tubes are available new in stainless. I'll take a look for the bimetallic, or i'll check with Carmen, I can send you with the red mats. TN
  13. Couple Ideas: make sure the passenger door lock is not cocked, is straight up and down-insert the key and move it both ways, then take out. use key in drivers door to unlock. This is another way to turn the alarm off besides the remote. I have random security on my 95 Riv-sometimes the security light comes on when I insert the key(pass keyII)then its a 3 minute wait to try again. Thats when I do my yoga mantra-close eyes rlax and say om padne ohmmmmmmmmmmother...
  14. Looking for the right taillight lense and wiper arms and blades for a 9019 V-16 Cadillac. Any sugestions or recomendations email, PM or reply to this post. Thanks,
  15. Try Harry Samuel Interiors 248 335 1900. He sold me a package shelf for my 65 Wildcat, its perfect. He used to advertise in the Bugle, I have not seen the ad lately. Hope he is still around, he is very helpful. Good Luck,
  16. It is the coolest! I saw the Y-Job at the Concours show on Amelia Island. See the attachment!
  17. Try Ron 714 537-8028 CA or Larry @ D& L 631 351-4837 NY They were both well informed on Warner units.
  18. Pat, I recomend Carmen because he usually has stock parts for the Nailhead. The Carter AFB was stock, late models bolt up but the air cleaners \do not fit and the linkage usually needs to be changed to work. I thought the Electra would be a stock 4bbl. That would be very easy to replace. Good luck,
  19. Carmen Faso is a great source for an AFB for your Buick. He is really into Nailheads. 716-693-4090. If you need a 4bbl manifold, they are easy to buy. I have about 4 of them extra, anchors away!!!
  20. Reasearched the 38 Cadillac colors. They called the paint "Luminescence" that had a fine metallic look to it. Not the first, but the name is interesting. Listed 4 colors, Cloudmist green, Fairhaven Blue, Cruiser grey, edgewood green. Nice.
  21. Seen at the Amelia Island Concours deElegance- the Y-Job, the Wildcat, the LeSabre. Buick Dream cars in the "flesh". See Attachment!
  22. I'll be down for the car show on Friday. Not sure what I should bring. Something waterproof!
