1. I got totally fooled one time when I forgot that #1 is on the passenger side! I thought I installed the cam 180 out or something!
It happened again when I bought my 65 Wildcat Convertible. It had the al valve covers, so no firing order on the engine. THe seller had a firing order-set up like # 1 was on the driver's side! I compared that to what was on my 65 Riv, and was all confused, so I got out my shop manual and had "what alcoholics call a moment of clarity" (Pulp Fiction). The manual straightened me right out on that!
 2. This is the same boot as on the 65 Wildcat 4-speed consolette. We have contacted Steele Rubber about making it. Any NOS ones out there?
 3. Looking for a 65 401 heat riser/manifold valve, good working or new. Anybody, leads or ideas appreciated.

 6. Grab it! But think about getting a Skylark Convertible from California to be a donor, you will be way ahead money and time wise.
I had the same scenario in mind when I bought my 4-speed Wildcat convert. I ended up with 2 extra rusty convertible bodies, not worth fixing for that rare of a car. Finally bought a CA car, rust free worthy to be a donor. I know this sounds bad(=expensive), but in the end you will have a car thats great not a fixed up rusted car.
I have them too!
Good Luck!
 7. This ad is in the Cincinnati paper. This car is really nice, I saw it at the Ault Park Concours show.
****I do not know the owner, but I thought it may be of interest to all of you.
BUICK Skylark GS 1966.
Rare L-76 Hi-Perf Pilot Car. Only known survivor.
Ault Park Concours Winner. 45k miles Red/Black, Auto.
Stunning Show Car! $19,500.
513 683-6636
 8. The 65 401 came with either the carter AFB or a Rochester "square bore". The Q-jet was introduced in '66 for the Buicks. I know nothing about the 401+ q-jet-were these on the GS (Skylark)?
There is a car for sale here in Cincinnati that has the L-76 (??) option-supposed to be a rare pilot car or something. It was at the Concours show here last year and won best in class. Its NICE!
 9. If you send a lot of little pieces, take pictures and document what you give the platers. At least you will know what you should get back! TN
 10. The non a/c pump has 3 vanes, a/c pump has 5 vanes. The non a/c cars pump runs faster (larger pulley).(WRONG)
Sorry, I geeked on that one. The larger pulley on the non a/c engine makes the water pump turn slower.
Musta been to save power on the non-a/c cars or something.
[ 05-12-2002: Message edited by: Wildcat65 ]
 11. The 66 Wildcat GS also had the spreadbore manifold+ Q-Jet.
These engines were painted red.
[ 05-12-2002: Message edited by: Wildcat65 ]
 12. Check the fan clutch by seeing if it will spin with the engine off. If it has failed it will not spin. If its good, it should spin a bit but not freely. they make lots of noise when they are stuck!
 13. Center caps please! I just thought I would renew this post since I saw some Wildcat posts here lately. Contact Mitch @ the email in 1st post, lets get him to repop these things. Thanks,...
[ 05-15-2002: Message edited by: Wildcat65 ]
 14. When a switch is installed inside the car, it is usually for the switch pitch only. There are 2 separate circuits from your throttle switch, the switch pitch, which includes the microswitch, and the 3rd to 2nd kickdown. The latter only works at Wide Open Throttle, the switch pitch activates at idle via the microswitch and at 48% throttle to WOT.
The switch inside the car would enable you to keep the pitch switched from 0% to WOT.
I would like to turn it off at WOT after initial acceleration for using the low stall
for either full throttle high speed runs or at the dragstrip. Factory set up is great for everyday driving! It is a unique feature to our cars, and is great fun for me to think about. Hope this helps!
 15. How big are the 65 GS Brakes? Are they common to the Sportwagon? Are they the finned aluminum? Thanks,
 16. I think the bracket is the only difference. I can email the 2 side by side if you want. The single 4bbl bracket looks like the stator/kickdown switch pin is centered between the two mounting bolt holes, while the 2-4bbl has the pin so it will be further back on the engine. I can get digi photos if it will help. TN
 17. I was wondering about that band name. I'll have to submit a photo of my Special Wagon for your approval. My surf band is called Norgettes-after the refrigerator. TN
Gretsch Sparkle Jet
[ 04-29-2002: Message edited by: Wildcat65 ]
 18. For those of you interested in the Nailhead, this new issue #189 has a great article on the developement of this engine and its debut in 1953. What a great thing to come home to today! Plus I didn't get any bills!
 19. I went to a Buick dealership to test a Century with my aunt, who is over 70 and has a broken foot. We drove the Century Custom, with cloth interior. I liked the ride and the car felt very competent. My aunt felt the same way, she wished for a little more room to enter the car. Leather is popular with older folks just for making it easier to get in and out. (my aunt likes ultrasuede dresses-we joked that would be like Velcro on the cloth seats!)(Where's your dress? OH! I left it in the car!)
Trunk is a good size, you would have to see if it would meet your requirements. Overall, we agreed we like the car, but even my aunt thought it was boring! Gosh, she was starting to like the cloth psuedo convertible tops this dealer installs to make the car look more CLASSIC! She will buy a Century Limited(with leather) if it comes in time to get the rebate-$2502 here in this region.
 20. Not sure about 63, but the 65 switch is on the column closr to the floor, not in the steering wheel hub. there's a (physical)control wire that moves parallel to the column, I think this was because the tilt wheel. Anyway, check at the bottom of the steering column for the signal electric switch. Mr. Leonard Scott of the Riviera owners association helped me on mine a while ago. If you are in the ROA, they have Tech advisors. TN
 21. This is somewhat encouraging news! They cannot do everything we want at once, just move in the right direction for a while and they will do better. I started wondering about my taste in cars lately-BM(W) and Volvo(?!%WtF?) but the reason was they have a coherent product line- a sedan, a COUPE(listen up Lutz!), a convertible and a wagon. The same lineup as my favorites from the 60's. My dream is for them to bring back a BUICK RIVIERA coupe! Meanwhile, I'm driving my '95 Riv, the rain and snow car, when its nice, the 65 Riviera. C'mon Buick.
[ 04-16-2002: Message edited by: Wildcat65 ]
