"They are used to hold/attach the masticated rubber. To avoid water/dust etc. from the underside to sucked up on the rear."
Are you certain your car came like that? If so, I think you have a very unusual car. I've never seen another 57 with masticated rubber over those painted panels, and I've seen many.

That's rough as a cob, but has some potentially good parts

I have a pretty good one from a 57. I think they are the same. If one of us can confirm, it might be what you are looking for.

Well, now the seller has raised the price to $2,000. Of course! Why didn't I think of that? If it doesn't sell, double the price!
The car got even better sitting, like whiskey!

A car with 33,000 miles at 60 years of age likely
went for a long time, at some point in its life,
sitting idle. Maybe it was dormant for 20 years or more.
So to me, the rebuilding of the engine and transmission
is a sign that someone has carefully brought it out of
hibernation and made it more reliable.
That's one angle I, guess, but in my experience an engine sitting for decades indoors should have nothing wrong with it except maybe some leaky gaskets. At times, some careful lubrication of the valve train may be in order before starting but that's about it. This is especially true of a car that's been apparently stored as well as this one.
If it's rebuilt, either from incurring damage from a hasty start up or just for grins, this introduces numerous opportunities for errors (especially from an unknown builder) which may not immediately present themselves. It's a much riskier proposition for the buyer than an ultra-low mileage original engine that's never been apart.

As beautiful as this car is, I think it's overpriced by roughly 2x. I wonder why the engine and practically entire drivetrain was rebuilt on a pampered 33k mile car? That's certainly not a selling point in my opinion.

I am looking to buy a clock for my 62 Skylark. Does anyone have one they want to part with, or know of a potential source of one.
I just got mine back from the clock shop and was told there was nothing he could do with it. It had plastic gears in in, and someone had been inside it. It runs but slooowly, looses a couple of hour in a few hours.
Thanks,
Jim
I may have one. Can you post a picture of what yours looks like?

Thank you! Can I assume there would be a corresponding offset on the other side in the event of dual exhaust?
Yes. They probably all had them from factory, but weren't always put back on when exhaust was replaced.

Yeah it was a good deal when it sold last year. Now, it's a joke.

Thanks for informing me. You guys sure know your later 50's stuff. I have to believe outside of being there in person and nitpicking, that this car represents a good value for someone who wants a significant car to enjoy the hobby.
It did look like a good buy and I'm not surprised it is gone already!

I love it. Hey Lance, the interior seating fabric looks correct to me, but I am only going off memory of past read books and ads for the 75. What's not correct?
I just have to wonder about the logic of a seller, likely a dealer-seller, not wanting to throw this on ebay. Craigslist and facebook marketplace for all of their charm and curiosity in allowing lookie-loos like myself and others to see cars in the past 15 years that were previously the domain of ebay and Hemmings, it's not the national or international audience of a well sorted eBay auction.
Well vinyl color is a bit off. Fabric looks pretty good, but hard to tell how good without closeups. But, while the pattern sewn in is correct, originally it would have a "tuck" sewn into the pattern so that the rectangles would be raised more, and the grooves between deeper. Minor nitpicking overall.
Of course the dash pad is not correct, but is done much better and tighter than others I've seen covered in vinyl.

I bought a roll to redo some 57 ones from Rubber The Right Way. I can't remember exactly what it's called but give them a call; they have great customer service in my experience. It should be roughly .25" thick with some kind of string impregnated in it.

That is just stupid. You can buy 2 for 6 bucks at Autozone.

So noted Barney, thanks! The switch feels good, with auto return to the middle position. I'll probably test by hooking up to the switch to ensure there is no problem with the switch. Pretty sure this is a 54-56, but can you tell me what years it may be "correct" for, for purpose of advertising for sale?
54-57 - they switched mid year 57 to the reel type. Every 57 I've had or pulled one out of had this style, but others have had the opposite experience. I have interest in buying this.

Great colors, but asking price is about 2x too high, and we don't even know what interior and trunk look like.

Wow, that's some clean metal!

It looks like interior has been redone at least partially and materials are slightly off from factory, but still very nice; somebody spent a lot of time on it. Looks like a nice coupe!

Ahh! Good catch @1957buickjim I forgot 58 only had the 2 outer trims. So one could probably use a 58 insert on a 57, but not vice versa.
