$20k firm means this car will probably be sitting another 3 years.

Driver quality. Scattered blemishes and a spot left of clock opening that's had chrome polished dull where there was a bigger blemish. $80 shipped to lower 48. Check, money order, or Zelle.
-
I personally don't think that's a bad price. For a damn- near 100 year old car it appears very original and unmolested. I sold my dad's 28 Master about 13 years ago for $6k and it was in similar condition but had a handful of parts like headlights changed out with incorrect (like Packard) parts long ago. The market's changed since then, but still...

I should have a nice extra plastic instrument cluster face if you need one.
-
I don't think it's a mechanical issue; that shouldn't cause the starter to continue working.
Before you take anything else apart, check for parasitic draw. Further, see if the relay is getting any current while the ignition is off.
It's a quick check to help get you closer.
-
When you isolated the rest of the system did you totally isolate the relay? Did you check for parasitic draw, or specifically voltage going to the relay when ignition is on but not cranking? There could be a short somewhere causing some current to flow through relay, which could be enough to not cause it to crank without engaging the starter switch but enough to hold the relay once it's engaged.

Thanks. Will try for a strip and polish.
Matt
I ran across this piece in my garage attic this weekend and it appears it is actually from a 58. Let me know if you still have interest.

Seems to me that it would be easier for a competent shop to fix and rework existing one then remake the whole thing, especially if they have the other side for a guide. Can you post picture of how bad it is?

Looks like the rear fluid seal on the transmission is not happy. I have the Exxon Valdez on the garage floor near the back of the torque tube. Not a happy camper.
But you've fixed these enough times that it must be getting fun now! But probably not if you've already had it apart.
-
If one was very close by, it would be worth grabbing. Solid rear bumper rails, though not as sought after as big series version, are a good grab and worth the selling price of the car. Other parts that fit all series, if nice, easily puts it over the top such as grille and fender eyebrow moldings; unfortunately these were gone or no good on this car or would've been worth more.

@Angelfish I am pretty sure I have a fan shroud if you need one.

My dad's 1940 Special coupe is featured in this book. Wish I had it!

Beautiful car. I'd love it even more with a black top!

That's interesting! My experience is mainly with Roadmasters but I'd never imagined there would be any difference. None of the big series cars I've owned or parted had the rubber on top. Maybe they were all built on Mondays!

I messaged him about “what’s that goofy thing on the trunk”? He said it’s covering rust.
That is what I assumed.

Okay thanks. Sounds like quite a puzzle. I asked because that pic with the red overspray looks just like one I sold on Ebay about 10 years ago that was originally a red and white car and was also totally solid and straight, and firewall and inner edges of fenders had already been sprayed. I was pretty sure that car had gotten put back together by the buyer but thought perhaps I was mistaken. I hadn't read the title carefully enough though as I see now this is a 4 door and mine was a coupe.

Holy cow. Where did you buy that out of? California? Did it come with a later 401 engine?

Yep, the bracket that is on there now is correct for 57-58
-
This is 1960 style (not sure how many years after). The correct style for 59 is same as 57-58 and many years prior, but with a different mounting bracket.

Interesting! Another quirky inconsistency I have not seen before. That definitely wasn't done on all of them, and probably not most of them, based on the on the ones I've seen.

This seller is a flipper and I've seen selling all kinds of stuff. That's okay, but I don't know if he's the good kind or bad. This car has been floating all over FB for awhile and I asked him long ago about the goofy thing on the trunk and he didn't respond.

Beautiful! If you wind up going nuts on the car in a couple years, I think it would look awesome in its original green as well!
