1. Have they had the drawing yet for the Pontiac? If so, who had the lucky number?
2. I believe you have to contact Peter G. and ask for permission to have access to the Misc. Chat section. If you have under 400 posts, you have to be approved before you can go to the cellar. Hope that helps.
3. Frank, If it makes you feel better, you can continue to think of them raisins. BUT they weren't.
4. Good point, West!!
5. Frank, I do not think there are any raisins in a Shoofly pie. It is made with molasses - back strap if you can find it. The following is the recipe I use when I make it. SHOOFLY PIE 3/4 c. dark molasses 3/4 c. boiling water 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 c. butter or margarine 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar PAstry for 1-crust 9" pie, unbaked Mix the first 4 ingredients. With hands, mix the next 3 ingredients. Pour about 1/3 of molasses mixture into pastry-lined pie pan. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the flour mixture. Continue alternating layers, ending with flour mixture. Bake in a pre-heated moderate oven (375 degrees F.) for 35 minutes. Serve warm or cold. Makes 8 servings.
6. Who did you buy the item from - a flea market, an ad in the paper, or Ebay? If Ebay, there are some built in measures to help you settle the dispute. I would contact the seller and try to start a dialogue. They might not know that they sold you the wrong item. Consequently, they might be willing to make the adjustment.
7. Best of Show was won by a 1931 Daimler Double-Six 50 Corsica Drophead Coupe, owned by Robert M. Lee of Reno, Nevada. Check out the Pebble Beach web page. There is a picture on the main page of the winner.
8. Bob, I don't think I am going to be much help with this one. The Brass-Nickel Touring Region has an "unofficial" no ad policy. I say "unofficial" because it my policy. I realize the need to sell ads but often, in my opinion, all the ads detract from the newsletter. I especially do not like the non car related ads. I get the feeling with some newsletters that I getting a mini yellow pages not a Region/Chapter newsletter. Don't get me wrong I would love to have the revenue esp. since we are a small touring region with no outside revenue except the $10 dues. If you go with ads please just proceed with caution so that your newsletter does not turn into a yellow pages.
9. If you go to Star Cars on the Junior AACA site, I have some information on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (some has already been related here). Star Cars on Junior AACA
10. Last month someone asked about the 2007 calendar. Check out this post - July 24th post Hope this helps!
11. Wayne, Yes and Yes. I would be interested in touring in Virginia and I am sure that quite a few of the Brass-Nickel members would be interested. We are, after all, a touring Region. One thought - you might want to consider uping the year a little to 1931. That way you would pick up the Model As. I think you will find that will greatly increase the number of participants and still be in keeping with the older cars. The Brass-Nickel hosted the Vintage Tour in 1999. We had about 36 tourists. If the cut off was 1931 instead of 1927, we would have had a greater attendance. If you do not want to go that high go at least to 1927 so that way you would pick up the Model Ts. Judy
12. Restorer32, I know where you are coming from. The last time we had our 1911 Sears at a National show it was nothing but a headache. We arrived at the show field and were directed to trailer parking. All the spaces by the entrance and registration were taken by the newer cars (50s up). We finally found a space at the back of the lot. After unloading and making our way through the maze of trailers (with coned off spaces behind them so no one would park behind them), we found out that we were at the bottom of a hill. Now believe me when I say that a chain driven 2-cylinder air cooled engine with 2 passengers will have a hard time pulling a hill. If it had not been for the generousity of 2 onlookers, we would still be trying to get up that hill today. Well we finally made it to the entrance and registration and were directed to our parking space, which was across the road (fortunately blocked off) in the farest lot from Registraion and down a hill. All the newer cars were up on flat ground right next to the entrance. The biggest disappointment of the day was that eventhough there were 2 high-wheelers there, the chief judge decided not to hold the George M. Hughes high-wheeler performance event. If they had it, it would have the same two cars and owners that had participated twenty years eariler. Eventhough we had a great day talking about the car and sharing it's history - that did it for us. The Sears has not been to a National show since then (and consequently does not have its Senior). We just take it to local historical events, parades, and museums. Well, maybe one day we will try again!
13. According to Wikipedia (an on-line encyclopedia)- "DUB magazine, founded in January 2000, is a magazine covering urban custom car culture and also features celebrities and their vehicles. The magazine also launched the DUB Magazine Custom Auto Show & Concert, a nationwide car show and concert tour that spans 16 United States cities. DUB now has many licensed goods that include DUB City die-cast and radio-controlled toys, DUB Edition car accessories, and Rockstar Games' Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition video game. The term "DUB" is street slang for custom wheels 20" or larger in diameter and was popularized through hip hop music. DUB was founded by Myles Kovacs, Haythem Haddad, and Herman Flores, who all continue to head the company located in Industry, California."
14. Hal, I do not think that the mere presence of the 'newer cars' has had a direct influence of not seeing the older cars on the show field. BUT it has has an indirect influence. In order to show a Brass car you have to really love them as just by the nature of the age of the car they are a lot more work. For one thing, you HAVE to trailer them to the start point of a show or tour. They are very rarely driven to the field. It is just physically more challenging to get the Brass cars out. Now, add to the mix the fact that our membership is basically made up of older gentleman and ladies. Because the club has the twenty-five rule, a lot of members find it easier to just in the newer car that can be driven, qualifies for AACA events, and has air conditioning, etc. A lot of time, I think it is just a comfort issue.
15. The summer 2006 Rummage Box is now on-line. Enjoy!

17. Before Cars, the last time I went to the movies was to see 'Back to the Future.' Mom and I and lucked out and went to see Cars opening day. We went to the matinee. The kids were still in school so there were only about 6 people in the movie.
18. Check you TV listings. I have seen two half-hour shows about the movie - one the Family channel and another on Starz.
19. I treated myself yesterday and did something I do not usually do - go to the movies. I went to see Disney's new movie Cars. A great movie for kids for all ages-esp. if you love cars. It is the story about Lightning McQueen a hotshot rookie race car driven to succeed, discovers that life is about the journey, not the finish line, when he finds himself unexpectedly detoured in the sleepy Route 66 town of Radiator Springs. On route across the country to the big Piston Cup Championship in California to compete against two seasoned pros, McQueen gets to know the town?s offbeat characters ?including Sally, Doc Hudson, and Mater ? who help him realize that there are more important things than trophies, fame and sponsorship. What is great about it is the cast of characters - Lightning McQueen - race car Mater - 1955 Tow Truck Doc Hudson ? 1951 Hudson Hornet Sally - 2002 Porsche The King -1970 Plymouth Superbird Chick - Race Car Ramone - 1959 Chevy Impala Fillmore - 1960 VW Bus Luigi - 1959 Abarth FIAT 500 Guido - Fork Lift Sarge - 1942 Willys Jeep Flo - 50s Show car Mack - 1985 Mack Super-Liner Lizzie - Ford Model T Clink - Dodge Dart Clunk - Dodge Dart What is really cute is some of the character merchandise that is available. But good luck getting any. They are completely sold out here in Raleigh. My favorite is Lizzie (wonder why). Go to the movies and see it if you get a chance. Until then visit Car web page. Caution: this is slow to load.
20. I appreciate all the help. This is a baffling one. Only one link will not open in Explorer - no mater the version.
21. David, No it is expanding OK. The Youth link listed after AACA Chip Program is the link that will not open. The link that will not open has the 'up arrow' and then 'AACA Youth Programs'. This is the only link that not open in Explorer.
22. David, Thanks but that isn't it. The files you referenced are on the Youth Programs web page. The problem is on the main index page. In Explorer, all the links open fine except one - the Youth Programs. To make it more interesting, it will open in some Explorer's but not all. It is just that one link. Go figure!
23. I have a problem with the Junior AACA web page and I could use some help. On the main page, there is one link that will open in Firefox but not Explorer. To make it more interesting it is not all Explorer's just some. At first I thought it might have to do with what version Explorer was being used. But if that was the case, all links wouldn't work (not just one particular link). I have tried renaming it and moving it. I tried deleting it and re-publishing it. I tried using the complete hyperlink (http://local.aaca.org/junior/...). I have recoded the whole page and still no luck. There doesn't appear to be any reason why the link won't work. I have tried everything I know. Any thoughts or suggestions. If you want to see if it works for you, go to the Junior AACA web page; click on Youth Programs under AACA features. You should now have two choices - AACA CHIP program and AACA Youth Programs. The link I am having problems with is the AACA Youth Programs. HELP!!! This is driving me crazy.
24. Thanks - Matt. I updated the site.
25. While going though some of my research notes, I found a reference to the price of gas in 1928 - $.10/gallon.
