  1. I was always of the impression that that air cooled Chev was pulled from the market because of a law suit. Franklin claimed patent infringements, and thay pulled it rather than fight them.
  2. I purchased a ring compressor that you could disassemble ( I think it was originally for Corvairs) ,and it will fit in a 90 series ,so it should fit for the 50 series also. I reringed my 90 series from the under side many years ago, and it is still running fine.
  3. I wasn't smart enough to take a picture of the speedo in my 40. I bought the car in 1972 with 21k showing, and am not sure how many times it had been around. I turned it to all zeros a few years ago, and it now shows 23k, so I have driven it over 100K
  4. Just a little side note! The 41 belongs to a long time Buicktown chapter member Dave Langdon. He drove it on his honeymoon, and has it almost restored.
  5. Any diff from 1940-1955 Buick's will interchange. The V8 Dynaflow Buicks had 3,3-3,5 ratios which are much more suitable for cruising.
  6. I took my test in August 1947 as they were changing the driving age to 16 on September 1. I turned 14 on August 10, and used my mother's 1941 Buick .
  7. The info needed is what body style is it? What condition is it in? Does it have rust? What shape is the interior?
  8. Jim Campbell ,who worked as an engineer for Buick Motor Division in the transmission section has one. He has owned it for many years, and also has a friend in Texas that has one. There are probably some more, but these two, i know are around.
  9. I don't know what the number is, but the Wildcat used a 5X5 bolt pattern. The 5X4 3/4 pattern was used on the "A" body.
  10. I am not sure on the mounts, but the only difference that is obvious is the bigger the engine, the taller they get. This ,of course causes the intakes to be wider .The 401 and 425 are the same width because they did that with a boring bar, and a little core change.
  11. To my knowledge, there are no 1903 Buicks in existence.The oldest known Buick is the one at the Harold Warp museum in Minden Nebraska.
  12. The first problem you will encounter is the bell housings are different! You will need a Dynaflow from a 57 to 63 Buick . I think you can probably find one that will mate up with the tranny mount, and also the torque tube.
  13. I carry a fuel pump, water pump, and an electric fuel pump with the set up to install it. I also have points,and a voltage regulator. Hoses and belts for the older cars, aas they are not readily available. in 30 years and over 150,000 miles traveled in old Buicks, I have replaced 2 regulators ,2 water pumps and 1 fuel pump.
  14. The Governor of Michigan addressed this problem yesterday, and the price went from $3,49 to $2.99 a gallon in one day in our area.
  15. I think that theblack and grey 41 46S in one picture is Dave Langdon's, and it just might be Jim Schilf's 49 wagon in the other. I cant remember the name of the guy that built the RV, but it was a VERY interesting machine. Both sets of front wheels turned, and I'll bet it was a "bear" to drive.
  16. Derek, The driven award has some rules, and they can explained by using the old circle track motto "stock to the eye'. If you don't have any obvious exterior mods, they won't bother you. It has been my observation that no matter what you do with the Bugle, someone will be unhappy. The first Bugles were mimeographed sheets sent out with a picture glued to them. The little Bugle was a big improvement, and the new Bugle is GREAT! There are people that get upset about a misspelled word and do not realize that it is in a really good story. I would wager that if you put one modified a month in the Bugle there would be even more dissension. This way we only have to put up with it once a year. Lamar, I was having serious withdrawal symptoms, so my son rebuilt it as fast as he could. It's good to be back.
  17. My computer has been down for 3 weeks, and I see I have almost missed all the fun!! First of all ,the BCAMD will allow any engine, but if it is not a Buick engine ,the will receive a mandatory deduction. Many of the people on this forum are of the opinion that if you like "modifieds" you will destroy a good Buick . I would like to state that there is room in the hobby ( that is what this is) for EVERYONE!! I have been involved with the BCA since 1969, and joined primarily because my boys wanted to take my drag car (29 Ford with 427 chev power) to school. I have since had Buicks that have placed well in BCA judging and have been invited to Meadowbrook, so they were nice authentic cars. At the present, I have Buicks for every occasion, my 40 Super convert( which has been to Meadowbrook and twice to "eyes on Design) has been driven by me over 101,000 miles, and it is still presentable. It does have a 41 exhaust manifold so it will accept dual exhausts , which is a legal change according to tne board, so I can get a driven award ,if I so choose. I also have a 37 Special coupe with 455 Buick power, which I take to the street rod shows. I did bring it to Batavia to support the "Modified" division , as I feel that we need younger members ,and just maybe they will do as I did and build an original Buick. If you look at the workmanship on some of these "Rods" you will be amazed at the talent displayed. I know that many were built with a deep pocket, and no hands on experience, but there are many built in 2 car garages, with paint and body work that is fantastic! My 72 GS 455 convert also would need to go in tne "Modified' class because it has numerous engine mods (headers-intake- cam -etc) but I used to drag race it , and now use it mostly to harass kids on the street with the new Mustangs and "rice rockets" Now that I am getting to an advanced age ( When I was born, the Dead sea wasn't even sick) I enjoy the creature comforts, so my 69 Sport Wagon has all the toys ,and we use it primarily for BDE functions. With all that said, it is your perogative to like or dislike any car , but many of you are missing the point! Whether you look at your Buick as a work of art, and trailer it to the meets to gather a trophy, or you drive it everywhere and it is full of road rash, you are doing what YOU want with your car. What anyone else thinks is irrelevant. The BCA has something VERY special, and that is that most of the members have a genuine love of cars, and it does not matter whether you are white collar, blue collar, or no collar, you have the one common denominator--BUICKS and that should help us bridge some of the gaps!
  18. I do not have an "old" Buick anymore. I drove a 32 model 97 all over the country back in the 70s, but I opted for hydraulic brakes after a few close calls. I have a 1940 model 56C which I have driven over 100,000 miles, and enjoy immensely. I also have a 37 model 46 which has been "modified" ( there was not enough of the coupe there to ever bring back to stock"
  19. Splitting them 4&4 makes them sound like a V8, and the 3&5 split makes them sound like an old Chris Craft boat. I have duals on my 40 ,so I don't have the motor mount problem, but if you run the back pipe in the regular position, and the front one under the pan , you should have no clearance problem
  20. Every BDE meet is an adventure, and this one was absolutely FABULOUS !!!! Bernice and I took two Grand sons along , and they want to join the BDE , but the are still in school, and I may have to spring for the membership. We need young people
  21. Splitting the pipe and running out the back will not change the sound or the performance. You are correct that the 41 system will require motor mount work. Splitting the stock manifold is something that has been done in the past, and they sound COOL!! It makes a very different sound, and the only problem is that if you ever want to change back, a replacement manifold cost is prohibitive . ($600)
  22. There will also be a cruise in Flint the same day, so if the traffic on Woodward gets too bad, come north. We will be controlling the cars so the late model "stuff' won't jam things up!

  25. The rear seal is a rope seal and is generic. Any good parts store should have it
