As another who never used Facebook, I appreciate you posting here. I very much enjoy this type of adventure when folks like you are gracious enough to take the time to share them with us and this was no exception! Very well written! I'm glad the damage to the car wasn't excessive as I'm sure it could've been much worse. Thanks again for sharing!

Are There Any Antique Car Owners On Here Anymore?
pkhammer replied to hddennis's topic in General Discussion
I'm stunned! I thought @The 55er knew what EVERY part was! Seriously, he has helped me identify parts more times than I can count................😃 -
Sure, just engage the starter rod that comes through the floor to the starter from the engine side. Make sure the car wheels are chocked, the emergency brake engaged and the transmission in neutral. People have been injured or died doing this when the car started suddenly in gear!

I've had this same experience, twice. Back in 2012 I sold a Frick portable steam engine to a man in Kentucky. He showed up to pick it up with a half ton pickup and an open car trailer with two 3500# axles. The steam engine weighed around 10,000 lbs! Once loaded he left the house and I never heard from him again. I hope he made it back across all the mountains of West Virginia! I have a Dodge 2500 Diesel and at the time a 20' trailer with two 6,000 lb. axles and that setup was barely adequate for the job. When I sold my '64 Falcon a few years ago the buyer showed up (form Florida!) with a half ton short bed and a rattle-trap of a 16' landscape trailer. When loaded it looked as if the hitch would surely hit the ground when the slightest of bump was encountered. There's some sketchy setups out there hauling down the road!

Bruce, I let them know that you wanted the bumpers if still available and passed along your number. They should know something tomorrow.

Another phone call….another car adventure. Car adventure #4 ……..
pkhammer replied to edinmass's topic in General Discussion
@dibarlaw I assume that is an aftermarket front bumper on your friends 1921-45? I have a very similar one on my junk pile and figured it was a fits-all. -

I'd be thrilled! Who says not a great find!? -
Well done! I dig Model A Fords! I'm guessing the "automatic transmission" listed in the ad was a typo however.

Can't wait to hear the story of this new adventure as it unfolds! Don't keep us in suspense too long!!! -
My understanding of a coachbuilder would be an entity that designs/builds bodies for an automotive manufacturer, therefore it is a factory car. A customizer on the other hand takes a automobile built by a manufacturer and creates his own look using home-built and/or parts from other existing automobiles. This in my opinion takes a perfectly good looking automobile and turns it into something hideous. In the case of the Spohn, the coachbuilder saved a step and just went for hideous from the factory. 😁

Please keep your itinerary posted. We are not far from the southern end of Shenandoah National Park where the Blue Ridge Parkway begins. Waynesboro, VA, is just a short drive off the parkway there and has many dining and lodging options. There are a couple of cheap motels near the BRP at Fancy Gap near the southern end of VA as well. Don't expect anything fancy at Fancy Gap! Ask me how I know. 😜 Once you get into North Carolina there are great options at Boone, Little Switzerland, Asheville, Maggie Valley and Cherokee but inexpensive will be hard to find in those areas. I used to travel the BRP a lot on motorcycle. I'd think in a Model A, three days to travel the 469 mile length would be comfortable. With stops you'll only average about 25 mph.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone recognize this dash panel and gauges. The oval measures about 5 1/8" high x 8 3/8" wide. Thanks,

Yes, they have the hood. I'll see if I can get some photos of the car with the hood. -
