  1. This wasn't what I was expecting when I started on the floor. I thought I was going to have wood boards showing all nice and hand finished. Ended up with this. Will have to let it sink in for a while and see how I feel about it
  2. Has anyone done an led swap? I'm interested on safety aspects. All my bulbs all around. I do hesitate only on originality. I love the charm of the single brake and tail light, the hugely inadequate headlights, the lack of turn signals. However, driving in modern traffic I get people trying to run into the back of me, waving back when I'm signalling, getting cut off, and driving home blind if I stayed out too late. Not an issue in 1928, bit of a problem in 2018 city traffic. Are they anymore noticeable than the regular bulbs? I picked up slim led signal light bar that sticks in the back window and I'm going to make my cowl lights into signals. They are useless as anything else really. It will still look stock except for the signal switch, a signal-stat 700 clamped to the steering column
  3. Hesitate? I had no reference to how bright a lumen is or how many of them I already have. If they are brighter, it's a go. Those 6v are dangerous to drive with. Need certain updates to make driving a 90 year old car safer, like turn signals
  4. Is a 660 lm LED bulb worth it? Other than the decreased load?
  5. I have just ordered carpet. It will go over the original black floor. I'm not sure how it is going to look. Took a chance on a wild pattern. Period correct-ish. It actually compliments all the colors inside and out - two tone green paint, beige pin stripe, brown linoleum on the black running boards, natural wood wheels, olive green interior (with body color paint), beige roof liner, fake wood inlay around gauges, wood steering wheel Honestly, I have changed my mind on this floor more times than I have had hot meals
  6. Order came in. I'm happy with it. 18x24. I have several magazine ads I want to have laminated to go with it. Titles such as "the fastest car under $1000" and "Don't forget to bring your stop watch"
  7. TOP CLASCO 6-8V 21&2? might be a 26 and that's referring to the candle power likely. Other bulb has even less left on it. Note the rippled sides of the bulb? A gimmick or manufacturing process (like crown glass)
  8. And this is why nothing ever gets finished and costs 4x what you anticipated. I'm likely going to change my mind on this again. I've made too many changes and compromises to what I wanted that it just isn't worth the effort anymore. Different species of wood, diffent joining, wrong tools, vision vs reality isn't coming true. I'm finding myself now wanting to paint the new floor black, so why not just repair the original one?
  9. Change of direction on this project. What I thought was plywood is tongue and groove board and is likely original. I'm not happy with how my new floor is turning out. I'm going to restore the original floor. If I glue up the cracks and trim the rough edges I will be happy with it. I also keep flipping between putting carpet in or not
  10. 1928 standard six One of my headlights has burned out. These are really old bulbs. Cannot make out numbers. Does anyone know what they might be?
  11. On mine, that heater is a solid cover over a humped crossmember. Between rain and work, I haven't had a chance to work on my new floor. I'm now thinking of a dark stain. I still want to see the wood, so stain instead of paint
  12. That vent is neat. Mine only has a metal cover over that cutout
  13. Have started fabrication with 3/4" glued pine panels. Actually slightly thicker than what came out. Fits perfectly. Will update with pictures once I have them roughed in
  14. Seat sliders? What luxury! My standard six front bench is fixed to the floor about 4" too close to the steering wheel.
  15. Started pulling the floorboards out. I thought it was plywood, but is Infact T&G subfloor glued along its edges. Settled on the ¾ 6" boards as the replacement. I like all the metal plates on the floor that were hidden by the floor mat. I am going to repaint them black and secure them in with brass screws. Should I just go with the natural Tung oil finish or should I stain them first? I am considering burning the pine first before oiling (testing on scrap). Maybe setting the first coat of Tung oil on fire? (Yes, out of the car?)
