I would add to stakesides good advise . If engine has not been spun in while . You can get cheap hand suction/ pump from local auto store and prime through side oil channel plugs . Two guns full should get lube throughout . If some ones watches gauge you may see it even rise . If you want pulling plugs then will make hand cranking to get pump re-primed and oil circulating . Good Luck , Tom

Yes . checking with today .

The Plymouth engine where used in Graham / Dodge trucks in those years 31-32 . They are 7 " dia . there was mid year change in my master from Warner to Newcastle transmission. Maybe has something to do with . But either way 7" are common band number maybe 308949 . My truck is stock with 196ci pA engine .

Look at a manifold intake leak also . While running spray some kind of carb cleaner around manifold to see if rpm increase at leak .
-
Welcome Rex . We always like pictures . Also get the number with prefix letters from left side engine . This will help . Also the part of country your in . Some local talent maybe be available .
-
Glen there is some good info on using vacuum to set up as broker-len stated . I can post some info if you cannot find it .
-
Welcome aboard Glen . I beg to differ with you .There is plenty of info here on trouble shooting these fours . They where used in most Mopars from 29 to 35 . Getting a Book Of Instruction for your model is a good start . It will walk you thought tune up steps . It does sound like your plenty mechanical enough to do . Your compression down may be valves . I donot think if it is even would prevent running .
I was far from a mechanic when got my first antique 5 year ago , but have it running a reliable and safe for years now . The search feature is your friend . Try Plymouth 4 cly in the Dodge Brothers forum section and the tech forum or just general overall .
Check or bypass fuel delivery and very , very common problem . Hang a temp tank . Good luck ask question , help will come .

Viv , You correct on my '31 Dodge . It is a truck build by Graham Bros . they used the 196ci Plymouth 4 cyl Same as PA but called UT in the trucks . For six cyl. they used Desoto engines DD .

It may have been a problem on older models of carbs ( filterless) . But with a filter of rearward fin orientation maybe fine . Carter sold with fins in both directions .
Not a carb expert either , sorry .

I have forwarded pics to cousin , thanks . We may ask for some measurements if we need to recreate, in future .
You and other have been a big help .

Nice . Looks like it comes out from front , then . I see keyed gear . Are those babbit bearing by it ? And Does anyone have a gear ?
-
Great pic of it disassembled . The part I am referring as bad is not this one pictured but the one on the cam that drives this one . No removal of cam has been started , yet .
-
Asking for my cousin who is starting restore . Want's to know if camshaft gear to drive oil pump is replaceable . The best way to remove it ? And where to get if available . This is on 1913 Mod 22 4cylinder . Have parts diagram . Or call me at 570 401 five eight 68 . Tom

I like the Remflex with it's 50 percent compression and no need to retorque , Rem # 6034 and for exhaust manifold to pipe Rem#8068 . You will still need the one between intake and exhaust , not available from them but is on line . I used ferrules on exhaust ports to , maintain alignment during install and extra protection to gasket .
-
Looks more like 9411 .
-
Yes those are ferrules . However I believe them to go on exhaust four ports . It is more protection from heat and flame on any gasket . I used with my Remflex graphite gasket install last year . When making allowed for expansion both directions . Prior to 30's these engine used individual copper o-rings in each port . Then went to gaskets . Make sure head is flat . Manifolds when assembled, are parallel and true .
My Parts book list the water pump piece as a thrust washer . Most likely was brass or fiber .

If I recall mine where plastic or nylon . Most likely upgraded over the years .

Is pinned on as separate piece.

It is from a price form 1950 revision in loose leaf catalog . My carb is 2 -3/8" center on center .
-
Look at my book . It does list SD for replacement on 31-32 Dodge trucks with U2 and DDG engines . Also 1930 Mopars with CJ, DD, CK and DD2 engines . Hay! , my truck fit this . Let me know .
