Pulled the file.  The lenses actually came from GM Obsolete in Phoenix.  Purchase was in October 2012.

    For what its worth.

Thanks for that. I checked those out. I decided to go with the CARS version as they have have the blacked out areas as original and the cost was significantly less for a pair. I will see how they work out and report back.

  2. For sale is a very nice left/driver's side rear wheel opening molding. The molding has been polished to a beautiful shine with no rust, scratches or dents. The mounting holes are intact. There are some very minor imperfections on the underside which would not be noticeable when mounted on the car unless you were on your back searching for them. For this reason I would rate this as Excellent ++++++++ driver's quality rather than show quality. I am offering this to Forum members before I list it for sale elsewhere. $65.00 plus shipping and handling. Please PM me if interested. Thanks.

Ed, I really don’t think I’m in that 400 point league. I have attention to detail, but I have my limits.

I bet it would be fun had I started out that way.

Oh, by the way I have seen the Dinsmore compass chrome finish compass for sale, but not installed. Since the Buick sales brochure says the chrome finish was an option that is close enough for me. The brochure I have is no problem to prove the info is legitimate.

I entered my 1963 in the 400 point judging at the 2017 BCA National Meet in Brookfield, WI. I had a non GM, non Buick compass in my car and did not receive any point deductions for that. I have not read the BCA points judging rules in detail to search for this particular situation. I think that with some accessories such as a compass if it is period correct as mine was it will be OK. If I remember correctly there were at least 3-4 people in the crew judging my car. If it was something that was a deduction I would think that at least one of them would have spoken up or it may just have been that the judges were being lenient. Put it in and enjoy it. It is cool.

Here in the KC area it was 11 above when I went in for therapy at 9:00 yesterday morning and it was 55 when I went out to get the mail this afternoon.  ???????

On a similar note, although not as quick of a warm-up as Ed experienced. We were at -26 F yesterday and have the welcome forecast of 40 F on Sunday. It will be a nice break for all including the furnace and humidifier.

    Hello!

So I have recently discovered an issue with my 401. I have an intermittent ticking sound coming out of the right side exhaust pipe. I originally thought it was the resonator as it appeared to be coming from that end of the exhaust, however when i straight piped the car, the noise was still there. Its a ticking sound that gets faster with the engine speed, and seems more "throaty" at idle. Now, this does not happen all the time, and it doesn't matter if its warm or cold outside. And again, its only on the right side so I feel like it might be a sticking lifter maybe? So before i pull the covers off and start trying to diagnose a problem I can't duplicate (it never happens when i need it to) I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and what they found.

    Thanks for your help!

Just to expand on what Tom was talking about. I had this happen twice on my 63. Two years ago I had this very same thing and found it was exhaust leaking from the heat riser where the flap attaches in the manifold. They removed the flap and welded the holes shut from the outside. Problem solved.

Last summer the problem returned. Same side and the same noise. This time It was a cracked manifold. The noise would lessen as the car/manifold warmed up causing the gaps to narrow and close. Eventually it grew worse to the point I had to replace the manifold. I have attached some pictures. There were actually 2 cracks. New manifold, no noise.

    Thanks

She was on Hemmings find of the week. PO put the honeycombs on but they are a heavy, noisy and unbalanced PITA.

I need a wheel solution as she is my daily driver.

I never cared for the honeycombs myself. My 1977 had the rally wheels with trim rings. I always liked those. i wouldn't think it would be too hard to find a set.

    Kissing cousins.

Just got my first big body Pontiac that I always wanted!

    SJ 400 with floor shift/console.

Still not enough leg room - ugh

Back in the late 70's-early 80's I had a 1977 SJ 400, 2-tone silver and dark metallic grey with a red leather interior. It had all the options and it could really smoke those tires. With all of that power it still got 25mpg on the highway. I loved that car and today it is still my favorite. Had to sell in 1982 as I was getting married and one of our cars had to go. Sadly, mine was the one.☹️
