    1940 wheels

That's a sweet 38! If I look at this picture I see a red painted wheel with a pinkish hue. Is that what Dante red, is or is the computer screen/picture distorting the color? As noted before Hirsch does not make a Dante red paint.

    1940 wheels

Your thought that I quoted is same feeling I have. It's just that I am looking for a point of reference. Is Dante red a deep red or a lighter red. Are there any detectable pinks, browns or oranges prevalent mixed in that change the look to the naked eye? I will try to get a paint chart from NAPA.
  3. I am in the process of re-finishing my wheels in Dante Red. I have done some searches on the web and the color samples look too bright and pinkish. Bill Hirsch only carries engine enamels and none of them are named Dante Red. I bought a spray can from dupli-color which I thought was close but seems a little too dark. Any advice would be much appreciated. I would prefer the paint to be in a spray can but could buy a quart or two if that's the only way I can get it. Also my car is a nice driver and I do not intend to make it a show car therefore I do not need an exact match, just a close example.
  4. Well I do agree with the interior as it looks pretty good. But I hate the colors used on the wheels and those tractor tires have got to go. Moreover the tan colored top just doesn't work with other colors of the car. On top of that the seller notes that it needs brake work. Many of the cars I have bought they needed brake drums, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and master cylinders so I assume the worst and hope for the best. Needless to to say I don't skimp on brakes! For 58K I not feeling it... That's big asking price so the seller can give buyer the privilege of spending more money on the car. Another thing, if the car runs why is the air cleaner missing and the carburetor covered with plastic?
  5. By your description you might check for a motor mount failure! The vibration you describe is a common indication of the mount(s) breaking. The rubber insulator cracks and wears out. Then you have metal on metal creating the vibration. Very common on newer cars and I just looked on Butler performance website and sure enough those mounts have that insulator in each of them. Don't just do one, do them all.
  6. Anyone planning to attend the POCI event in Tucson on November 2nd through the 5th? I am 95% sure I will be there. Not often a POCI event is held in the western US. Chris
  7. Two things that bug me; one is the 12V conversion and 2 is the hydraulic seat is inop!. Though it looks to be a nice car for some reason it just doesn't grab me; maybe it's the yellow paint
  8. oh boy do I love this car and it's in Santa Rosa! If I had the room I would go out there and inspect it. No room to park it so instead I will drool over the pictures!
  9. Pretty car. I've never owned an Hudson but the price doesn't seem too far out of bounds. The wiring would cost a pretty penny; a quality wiring kit would be somewhere around $1000 and then there's labor on top of that. However the other repairs would not break the bank! The Champagne color exterior looks elegant but I would've gone with a dark brown top. Not sure if the driver's door has been repainted or if that's a reflection. A great Hudson nonetheless...
  10. The cost of repair/restore these things is very high so if I was to buy one I would look for a clean, straight, unmodified, above average driver and we have seen quite a few of them lately. Which makes me think this is a $4000 car!
  11. I really like these cars. It appears the metal and paint work are done. Seller states he has the 394 V8 but it's not installed. That begs the question is the motor rebuilt? If not does it turn? No mention of the transmission. That box in the passenger footwell is the carpeting from ACC and there is a picture of the front seat too. This could be a good deal...
  12. I wonder why the rear end on the Packard was modified in the first place. Stock 34 Roadsters had a rumble seat and fetch big money!. I would think this one was severely damaged in the rear and so the owner decided to re-style the rear it using a boat tail design. Though it looks like in these pictures the craftsmanship was pretty good the overall design is ugly specifically the over hang of the boat tail design feature! IMO the boat tail design should have been done in wood and eliminate the over hang. Regardless the value of the car is destroyed.
  13. Well I must say this is interesting. My 40 Super coupe has tan-brown Bedford cloth seat upholstery that I love (thanks Doug Seybold). It has a baby barf brown painted dashboard and a light gray window surround molds. I cannot figure out why the window molding are painted in a color that is not seen on any other part of the car! I can't say it's ugly but I do wonder what the thinking was behind that color. I was telling a friend today that I am going to paint those moldings in some shade of brown or perhaps wood grain them using Grain It Technology's kit. I have seen the results on many Buicks and it looks real nice!!
  14. Now that's a great deal! I doesn't appear that it would need any big repairs. I am not sure but the top of the dash and the molding pieces that surround the windows are correct, probably not. They were most likely wood grained or painted brown. The black wall tires look okay but the car looks bland so I would contemplate a set of wide whites; Afterall it is a Cadillac! Truth be known I am partial towards pre war GM coupes and mid 30's Ford coupes!
  15. WOW! Now that's an impressive survivor. i love the originality! It's a pretty cool pre-war coupe and I hope it goes to a new owner that will continue to preserve it. GLWTS
  16. The ultimate in American glitz! As said a few times on this message board rare doesn't always mean desirable. I think that continental kit looks like a tacky add on especially with the cheap looking undersized hub cap. The seller is going have to wait a long time to find a pigeon who will fork anything close to 29K!
  17. The black convertible is probably worth more money and it just looks fresh and tighter. Moreover the white exterior paint makes the car look bland. But I like the blue seats One problem for me is that I am not a convertible fan. But I hate to sound cliché but when the top goes down the price (and collectability) goes up! If I remember right the Ford LTD's from the 70's had small chrome emblems on the taillight lenses as well. Somebody here should buy these cars. Especially the black one! I would be quite tempted but the garage is full!
  18. I will add that the Pace cars to your list. For 28K the buyer bought a whole bunch of fun at a fair price!
  19. Hey Jeff, It's best to post pictures of the cars you have for sale.
