  1. I drive my 1970 Chevy truck every day! But seriously I did drive my 1910 Overland 1914 Buick and 1950 Chevy for a bit about 3 weeks ago. with the nice weather I may be able to go for a quick spin again this weekend. Perhaps I will take the 30 chev or the model A roadster for a quick Jaunt.
  2. There is a cartoon of this hanging in my garage. My dad hung it up in there over 30 years ago when we moved into it.
  3. I believe the ones I had made both for my Overland and for my '14 Buick were about $800 each through Gear Headquarters.
  4. The kit is made of oak i believe. This is actually 2 Kits. Body wood and Top wood. The body part is everything below the top of the window and the top is the rest including the front header.
  5. I bought the kit from Bert's Model A in Denver. It fit right together with almost no fitting or sanding. I only wish I was good enough to fabricate a kit like that. I tip my hat to someone who has done the wood from scratch on a restoration. I thought the wood work on that Sterns Knight on the cover of the last Antique Auto was amazing.
  6. I replaced all the Bearings in the rear with modern bearings. Remco in Cadillac Mi is who Retrofit the new bearings. They built new axles, outer axle bearings and Differential carrier bearings. They also retro fit new bearings into the transmission. I used Gear Headquarters in Kansas City for the ring and pinion. They also built a ring and pinion for my '14 Buick too. They were less expensive to make those pieces than any one else. It was also nice my brother lives there and could go down and talk to them in person. I will do a little digging and see if I can find some of the pics I have of the work. Nice speedster project! looks great!
  7. Here are a few shots of the wood kit I have been installing into my 29 special coupe. Now if the sheet metal was repaired so I can finish putting it together.
  8. Thanks for the kind words. I am glad to finally get the '10 Overland and the '14 Buick off of the list of things that need repaired in the collection. I don't think we can make the reliability tour this year but perhaps in 2015. Does anyone know where it is being held? how about the Glidden?
  9. I will get some photos out to you shortly and I agree with Dave Mellor NJ that the ford barn is a great site with lots of information. I have found it very helpful on several occasions.
  10. I am working on a Special coupe and putting the wood in it right now. I am not sure the sport coupe is the same however. I have a few pictures if you would like to see some of my progress
  11. I have never make it to Hershey. I would love to make it out there one year. It will definitely be a goal.
  12. This overland has been restored 3 times. Gramps and Dad brought it to home off of the farm in 1953. two amateur restorations and then a good one they finished in 1978. The car won a first grand national in 1981. By the time I was born there were 5 cars in the collection. Mom tells a story that I was 2 months old when I went on my first outing with the local club. I will post up a few more shots of the Overland. There are a few shots on my profile page here.
  13. ^^ Great looking Whippet! Our overland is extra special to us Because my great grandfather bought the car new in 1910!
  14. My brother came to visit this last week and while he was here we were able to put our 1910 Overland back together. It has been down for several years. We had new wheels built for it and then discovered a cracked ring gear during the test drive. Then we got into the trans axle on it and had to have all new bearings put in to it as well as having a new ring and pinion and transmission main shaft made. Up on the test drive for those repairs we discovered a problem with the drive shaft not being true and the throw out bearing not working properly. Take it all apart again and send more parts off to be built. Thanks to Remco in Cadilac Michigan for the machine work. Gilbert is great for fabricating new parts and retro fitting new bearings into the entire rear end. My brother came for a visit and together we put the car back together. It had been six years since the car had been on the road. It was a bit emotional on the test drive with mom since this was the first time she had been for a ride in that car since we lost Dad.
  15. One thing to consider when you buy a car of that age is how good your mechanic skills are. There a bunch of books that take you through every step of restoring a model A but not so many for other makes. If you have limited experience with wrenching it may be easier to start with a car where parts are easy to find and lots of references for. John
  16. I drive a 1970 Chevy truck for my daily driver. Parts are cheap and readily available. I hope you pick it up and have a good time with it!! Good Luck! John
  17. I will get into the garage this week some time and get back to you with some dimensions. thank you John
  18. The seal caps are pressed on the edges are smooth. I took the shafts off and then dug the old seals out with an ice pick and then drove them out with a punch from the back side. once I got them to move out a bit I was able to use a small punch to drive them off. Had to be extra careful to not bend up the caps too bad. The trick was to remove the stuck pistons. Thanks for the advice from Lee spring. John
  19. I am rebuilding a set of Delco Lovejoy single action shocks for a 1930 Chevy and have 2 broken springs that go under the pistons. Does anybody have some replacement springs or a part number where I can find some? I am planning on calling Apple hydraulics and see if they sell parts. Does anyone know if they do sell parts? Thanks in advance. John Binger
  20. ^^ thanks for the information. Seems apple hydraulics seems to be the go to for a lot of these old shocks. I will check them out. I hope their parts aren't as expensive as their rebuild service.
  21. Hello all. I am in the middle or rebuilding a set of Delco Lovejoy shocks for a 1930 Chevy and am needing some parts. I am looking for 2 of the springs that go underneath the pistons. I took my set of shocks apart and 2 of the 4 had broken springs. Is there a part number from Mc Master Carr that would work? Thanks John Binger
  22. Hard to find those spare tire covers. Many have been cut up for chopper and hot rod fenders. My brother runs one on his '67 triumph!
  23. Hello Sam. My brother was the one who made "The Barn" sign. As far as CZs goes your dad got that bike from my dad. It was complete with almost all the parts we had to complete the restoration. If you look around you may be the rest of the bike. I however have sold all of my Jawa/CZ stuff to a gentleman in Canada. If you need I can get you his number. I dropped out of membership a couple of years ago. No reason just never got around to rejoining. I will look up what is happening to the buzzards breath region. Dad founded it and carried the torch for Touring for many years. I am glad to have seen another Friend of the family on here. I will keep everyone on the board up to date on what I am working on.
