  1. Yes, its a very dark Brewster Green inside and out, almost looks black, quite attractive. I had a 1970 Lincoln Continental sedan about forty years ago as a used car, enjoyed it, would have another if the situation were amiable to do so. And, yes indeed, they are a forgotten, overlooked model in the shadow of the Continental Mark III, but represent a value opportunity for collectors.
  2. For Sale: 1971 Lincoln Continental sedan - $4,000 - Westerville, OH https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/d/westerville-1971-lincoln-continental/7200441991.html 1971 Lincoln Continental Survivor. Loaded - leather interior. Engine runs smooth and quiet. Transmission shifts solid. Brakes are in good condition. All fluids are clean and full. No leaks and no noises. Stored indoors. Aside from minor rust at lower fenders and behind rear wheels, the car is extremely solid. Floors, doors, hood and trunk are solid. Power windows do not work. Excellent classic car. Asking $4000. I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO TEXT MESSAGES OR EMAIL. PHONE CALLS ONLY. Contact: John (614) 3-zero-9-one-5-0-one I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1971 Lincoln Continental sedan. Note: Seller states power windows not functional, also minor lower body rust. Each is typical for these Lincolns. Otherwise, mechanically robust cars, though power windows had Bosch motors that were poorly sealed, also a circuit breaker which could be troublesome. For a relatively low price, they are great highway cruisers, very comfortable and powerful, but good for only 10 mpg regardless of how driven.

  4. John S: I've never been involved with a new car dealership though with a used car operation for about a decade. The tidbits of knowledgeable about color selection came from a few good articles in collector car publications about how color choices were made for the next model year(s) and what would be the 'leading colors' to feature. As color selection became more sophisticated as a sales tool, consultations became standard practice with the fashion industry, architects, building material, paint manufactures and professional color consultants as what the future trends were indicating. The general concept was to be in step with the emergent trends, to make 'hot new colors' available as those became a preference. Conversely, sales data by color was analyzed to determine colors falling from favor, to reduce or eliminate those from the selections. Another article detailed how the sale brochures were laid out, the important point was the lead image of whatever model that was was in the color considered the best choice to reflect the type of car i.e. sporty, luxurious, etc in the color that, in current parlance' was "trending". It was intended that a larger proportion of those sold would be ordered in that color or combination and production would plan accordingly. Color advertising for magazine and television commercials would also feature the car in those most popular new colors. All this goes to explain why cars like the first Toronados appear so frequently in old gold metallic, dubonnet maroon, white; just as the Continental Mark III were maroon with black top. As a car entered its third or fourth season, featured colors were purposely changed along with the restyles to maintain an aura of 'newness' and reason to buy. As a simple question, get a dissertation...
  5. Old gold metallic was prominent in the sales brochures, results in a high percentage of sales in such as those who find color choice daunting pleased to select what is presented. Check the number of Continental Mark III's in maroon with a black top, the combination most often shown in the advertising.
  6. The source I have list their 276.5 c.i. sleeve-valve four cylinder engine as their own manufacture. Though given the small production volume, is it known if these engines were sourced from an outside engine makers or in conjunction with another Knight-engine make?
  7. Remarkable! One supposes it gave up its side-mounted spares to the WWII scrap drives.
  8. How about that!!! Decades beyond its time, and the pretentious Roamer is still fooling people!!! Oy Vey! I shoulda known!!!!
  9. Perhaps Brewster's slogan should have been: "We do archaic style better than anyone else!"

Overdrive makes these a nicely-mannered distance driver.
  13. Pretty wild for Brewster, Did young Tom Hibbard and Ray Dietrich slip a few of their designs into the selection that Willy Brewster didn't notice... Maybe this was what got them fired so they decided to start their own automotive architecture endeavor...
  14. "Inside and out, every dramatically new detail makes Lincoln, now, more than ever, unmistakably, the finest in the fine car field!" Julia Meade, spokes lady for Lincoln and co-host of the Ed Sullivan Show.
  15. Any owner of a 1934 Auburn 652, 1935 653 or 1936 654 convertible coupe or phaeton better keep it under lock and key...or its body might disappear to be found later on an 851 or 852 chassis. Thirty years ago near Fort Plain, NY there was a old-time mechanic garage owner who had a '33 Auburn Twelve Speedster stored in an old school bus body, a '34 Auburn 850 convertible phaeton and, the only one I've ever seen, a '35 653 two door brougham among the other cars in his yard. The 12 speedster and '34 phaeton have long since gone into other collector hands and been restored, but doubtful the brougham survives.
  16. Do we have any idea who the coachbuilder was of this Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Cape Top Sport Phaeton? Its pretty wild for that timeframe, note the upswept cowl, descending belt-line, low three-piece windshield and shape of the rear door opening.
  17. Oh no! The 1970's Mopar avocado green metallic so popular then had an historic precedent!
  18. The "Designed By LeBaron" tag would be from the years before Bridgeport Body Co. was acquired when LeBaron's Hibbard and Dietrich were "automotive architects" whose body designs were built by other established coachbuilders. Someone far more knowledgeable should chime in but I seriously doubt any custom coachbuilder would have driven three screws through the coachbuilder tag as did whoever mounted this one.
  19. The 1957 Rambler Rebel was a high-performance. limited-edition, one year only model, check the HCC for November 2020 with a good article detailing that model. The 1959 Rebel V8 was just a run-of-the-mill V8 Rambler.
  20. A.J. Yes, American to simplify the selection, the European coachbuilders seem to do low windshields just in the course of design of sport sedans, That's a pretty impressive list of closed custom-bodied closed styles. The Waterhouse Packard came to mind after I'd posted, but I knew you'd include it. That would be a good companion for your REO Royale 8-48 Dietrich...
  21. If you haven't a copy yet, get the book Packard 1951-1954 by Robert J Neal, its worthwhile reading for every Packard owner of those years. It explains so many of the background reasons why the company never returned to its old vigor and how it was set up for failure. Preface to that is Mr. Neal's Packard 1948-1950, which taken together completely explains the multiple management mistakes that piled one on top of the other well before Jim Nance took the reins.
  22. Only a complete engine swap for a 1954 359 will do it. Block is different etc. Check with Kanters and Ross Miller, either might know of a 359 ready to install.
