  5. This thread is a daily favorite, has been the venue for some truly amazing images. It has become unwieldy, which calls for a new organized start. Suggested: Pre-WWII Period Images I Postwar Period Image I As each thread signified by a Roman numeral reaches a predetermined number of individual post, that thread would be locked. Immediately a new thread titled Pre-WWII Period Images II would start repeating the cycle again into III, IV, V, etc. Because further comments refer to a particular image, repeated images would be allowed but conditional on the pertinent comments requiring the image for reference. Pertinent information should be included when the image is posted. This would be the posting person's responsibility to do so on the honor system. A separate thread purely for identification would be useful, though the Forum already has one in the 'What is it?" section, though that is not exclusively cars. Because many early images have faded badly, I use a free shareware from www.Irfanview.com to improve those posted. Discretion has to be exercised, which would also be the responsibility of those posting. Hope some of these suggestions are useful.

  11. Its a scam, the same guy has been trying that for years with 1938-'42 Packards. He collects the pictures on-line, runs the ad with minimal description and a seemingly very reasonable price. Flag it to be removed by Craigslist.
  12. The first generation Kaisers and Frazers are the perfect example of expediency overtaking all other considerations. The small script seen next to the right rear bumper guard reads "Darrin Styled". That's Howard 'Dutch' Darrin of the famous pre-war coachbuilding team of Hibbard & Darrin and pre-war Packard Darrin convertible victorias. He was contracted in 1945 to present a styling model for what would have been the postwar Graham before Kaiser came into the picture. Events moved fast to bring new cars to market, Kaiser with the assistance of financial people entered the picture, Kaiser-Frazer Corporation was formed, the Graham became the Frazer. The Darrin styling model was turned over to be 'productionized' by body engineers. While the styling model represented the typical envelope future body style thinking of the time, it was no styling tour-de-force. Notwithstanding that, engineering and manufacturing expediency removed much of what would have contributed more pleasing style to the finished cars. Dutch Darrin shortly after introduction requested that "Darrin Styled" script be deleted on future production so dismayed was he by what had been done to his initial design.

  14. It is a 1923-'24 Studebaker Big Six Model EK touring, RHD export model. Studebaker actively sold cars worldwide as a follow-on to their equally worldwide business in horse-drawn vehicle of all types.
  15. Western Colorado cars typically have very solid sheet metal and good chrome trim because of the low humidity and arid conditions of that region. What does suffer is the paint and soft trim from the intense sun and hot temperatures. I lived in an intermountain town in the 1970's in college, but also had a few opportunities to visit the western part of the state, was amazed at how well preserved older cars were there that had largely rusted to extinction here in the east.
  16. The technical experts in the Studebaker Drivers Club could walk you through it.

  18. "Ready to restore." I've always interpreted that expression to mean "we've seriously neglected this vehicle long enough, allowed the weather to ruin the body and trim, while mechanical systems atrophied and set-up from rust and corrosion. Now, we magnanimously offer to sell it to you to spend considerable time and financial resources reversing the damage."
  19. Did the seller happen to mention if it has overdrive and whether its functional? The ideal combination for distance driving or even local touring would be the V8 stick with overdrive.
  20. 1959 Dodge Coronet - $7,500 - Norton-Barberton, OH https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/d/barberton-dodge/7182426773.html I am finally selling my 59 Dodge Coronet. I have had the car for about 10 years, and during that time, probably put a couple hundred miles on it. I had the push-button transmission professionally rebuilt, a complete professional tune-up and fluid change, and newer tires mounted on the car. Just added a new (NORS) full front rubber floor mat (replacing the factory original), as the Coronet did not come with carpet, and did a back-yard respray of the exterior (the car was originally solid gray, but the paint was faded). Interior is presentable, but needs the headliner replaced and seat covers re-done. 326 V-8, Powerflite Push-Button Automatic Transmission, 39,xxx Original Certified Miles. Solid Body. Car starts, stops, and drives as expected. Originally a Georgia car, it is a certified 39,xxx mile car which I bought from a local new car dealer long ago. I just turned 71 and need to downsize. Note: The 1953 Clipper Special was the base-level Packard model series, 288.6 ci L-head straight eight, plus in this case the manual shift three speed transmission with overdrive as evidenced by the relay on the firewall. The combination makes a very nice driving car for long-distance touring. The factory barbed spears for the front fenders to replace those stick-on 'portholes' are readily available from Packard parts suppliers. Interesting, the front grille has the fluted chrome overlays standard on the upper series models.
