  4. Silly question I know. I am building a 27 buckboard entirely out of spare parts that I had lying around, but I have come to a halt with a decent radiator and surround. I can get my hands on a good 28 radiator and surround, will it fit? I'm not worried about originality, this project is just a bit of fun, not a serious restoration.
  5. You can buy the pistons new from egge.com, I rebuilt my 29 engine and had no trouble getting oversized pistons.

  7. Hi David, thanks for the reply. I was afraid that might be the case, I am confident I could shape the tank from steel but I have never worked with stainless so I'm not so confident. Unfortunately the tank looks nothing like the chevy tank in your link. What about using mild steel and then sealing the inside with a dedicated tank sealing product and then paint the outside? I took the tank to my local aluminium and stainless fabrication places place but neither could replicate the curves, it would have to be all flat plate and angles. I will look into terne plate, can this be heated with an oxy to bend it?
  8. The gas tank on my 35 Pontiac is rusted out beyond repair and I want to attempt to make another from scratch, can I use plain mild steel or do I need a special grade of steel? Thanks
  9. Yes, right hand drive pontiacs do indeed exist, all my cars except the 32 are original right hand drive. The panel below the trunk is actually the full width of the back and holds the spare wheel, it just doesn't show well in the photo, the gas tank neck comes out on the right rear fender. All the interior is original to the car, I'm currently drowning the seats in leather conditioner to try and soften them a little. The only rust on the car is a little on the right hand running board, only very minor.
  10. The bodies are different on the Aussie cars, they were locally built. Most of the American cars seem to be slant back or in later years slopers, in Australia most bodies were hump back. Mechanically they appear to be the same as the U.S. cars with only minor differences due to being right hand drive.
  11. Mine may be the last one in Australia for all I know, I don't know of any others. I will post a picture soon, it is a sedan, last on the road in 1966, a true barn find and totally original. Parts are very hard to find, I have to bring everything in from the states, some things were different on the aussie cars though which makes it difficult.
  12. In the past I have found a patch of paint in an out of the weather area, cleaned and polished it and then had it colour matched by my local paint shop. The clutch cover usually works well. Of course this assumes there is some original paint left.

  14. I have a couple of these Russ, there is several different versions. I believe they were given out by dealers as promotional material.

  17. Hi Marv, thanks for the tip but I actually bought 8 brand new reproduction pieces from The Filling Station, fit is reasonable. The pontiac hood doors have a very slight curve to them which the finger pulls do not have so the pointy end stands slightly proud of the door, you have to be very close to notice it however.   19. The warped piece is likely to be the fuel bowl lid, a carefully cut and shaped cork or neoprene gasket can seal this. The 29 model carb had an idle jet and a high speed jet, the 30 model also has an intermediate jet. A 29 model would work just fine as Tinindian stated.

The guy you are thinking of is Rand Broadstreet, I have bought several carbs from him (including one for my 1930 Pontiac) and found him honest and reliable, if a little expensive. http://www.northfieldltd.com/pb/wp_9b2715e2/wp_9b2715e2.html I'm with Reid though, unless the pot metal is breaking up there really isn't anything on them that can't be fixed. 1930 Pontiac carbs are very hard to find.
  21. I'll second the battery cables, need to be massive with extremely clean earths to spin over effectively. Nice to see a fellow Aussie here.
  22. Interesting, I hadn't even considered doing that. What model car? Was it just a press fit with a woodruff key?
  23. Hi Jim, thanks for your reply. My 32 has wire spoke wheels so wooden wheels aren't much use to me. I do have a 27, 29 and 30 on timbers however. Cheers Heath
