  1. you also might try putting a stout wood block behind the plate and giving it a good shot with a 3lb hammer.
  2. That flange is actually part of the axle bell, just keep working it, the backing plate should come off. The backing plate fits snugly over it, more tapping with a bigger hammer
  3. Unless that's the wrong picture you have a Victoria, not a Crown Victoria
  4. I put a very decent running driving 6 wire wheel car on Ebay and got 8k for it, that one I'd guess at around 4k, maybe.
  5. What your describing is not a Weber setup but more likely Hilborn fuel injection, research research research!
  6. The car has lets say........character, respect it and don't cut the top off. Viper yellow, absolutely not. Do some research on 60's show cars and paint accordingly. It definately looks like a 60's build, no older than that. Also appears to be an east coast rod.
  7. Talk about a back-handed apology, why can't people just admit when they're wrong without trying to get a dig in. Great car!
  8. wrong forum for that kind of talk, try the H.A.M.B.
  9. Looking for a trunk in nice to excellent condition measuring 18.5 by 30.5 inches or very close. Thanks
  10. You should buy a 42 instead, much nicer cars. Oh yeah, I just happen to have one for sale too.
  11. thanks but that's not even close to what I'm looking for
  12. Holy dead thread Batman!
  13. cool car but not what I'm looking for, thanks
  14. This started by my wife asking me what some of my stuff was worth (always dangerous) She specifically asked about the Zephyr and I said it's not for sale. She asked if I would trade it for something and that got me thinking, so here goes, the car is very original but not quite stock, there was some custom work done in the 40's, mainly interior and rear fenders, it has 63k original, zero rust and has never been outside. It's a very rare care car in this condition and if you know these coupes you should have an idea what it's worth. Since it's for trade only I hope I'm not violating any rules as far as stated price. I would consider trades only for the following, 59 or 60 Corvette, pre 35 large open car, this car is a nice original, trades should be similar.
  15. Here's one ON CL 1927 REO looks like a decent car, they told me they had 15k in it but wouldn't offer a price
  16. Looking for a decent pair or 4 Gruss air shocks for a speedster project, leads appreciated.
  17. Thanks Marv, I wouldn't want to be in it more than $100, don't know if that's worth it or what you could get it for.
  18. If anybody goes there I would love to have the center bumper guard, could pay for your trouble as long as the price is right.
  19. That's great news, did the thief have an EMF he needed parts for?

    1940 update

Sell the car as is, trying to hack up a unibody car is full of unseen problems and you'll likely end up with a bigger pile of %$#$ than you start with. Parting it out is a good option too and you may help a few cars remain on the road. Buy something you like to start with, doesn't cost any more to restore (or hot rod) a desirable car than something you consider frumpy.
  21. I posted this in the Lincoln V-12 discussion but thought I'd try here too. I just bought this 41 Zephyr. It has no skirts and an added piece where the skirt would have been to give it a standard wheel opening. If you've seen a Zephyr without skirts you know it's a huge opening, as far as I know all Zephyrs had skirts. There is a seam on the inside the fender that follows the original opening. The customization or conversion seems factory and the car is sporting mostly original paint. Has anybody seen this before or heard of it being done to a Zephyr?
  22. Late last Thurs night I was checking CL for what kind of junk was for sale when I came across a 41 Zephyr 3 window, 63k original for a very good price. I called first thing the next morning and drove pretty fast for an hour and a half to look at it. As soon as I got there the guy's phone was ringing off the hook, at least 20 calls in 15 minutes. I plopped down some cash and went to pick it up today. It ended up the guy's grandfather bought it in 59 when the original owner traded it in. It also ended up I knew his grandfather well before he passed many years ago, I had been working a deal to buy his Locomobile. The Lincoln is pretty nice, zero rust, very straight and has a very nice leather interior. I'm thinking it might be a Custom model which they made 90 of in 41, will be checking with the Zephyr club on that. The other odd thing about the car is the rear wheel openings, no provision for the huge Zephyr skirts. You can reach up inside the fender and feel where the opening is supposed to be. Someone told his grandfather that you could get these without skirts, I don't know. It's been off the road since 84, started occasionally. Even came with the original registration from 41, plates are 56 and are are pretty cool number. My plans are to keep it as is, too nice to screw with. Oh yeah, it's 2 tone, I don't think I've seen another, anybody?
  23. LOL, as a matter of fact I have that pulley but it's attached to a complete 55 322. I don't think I'm going to use the engine but I hesitate to break it up as it's complete and I think low mile.
