  1. Hi all. I am a newer member having Buicks for about 6 years now.I am putting together an interesting combination that I need some advice on.It is a 1940 buick special 4dr sedan. Currently it is stripped to the bone and body and paint(black) done.I bought a dropped spindle set from fatman and will be lowered 2in at the rear as well. Interior will be red/black real leather and the rest will be as original as possible.Wheels are stock with trim rings and small hubcaps. I have a complete 41 super twin carb motor to go in.I want to make it look like maybe Buick put together a1940 SSE.Is there any o/d trannys that will work with the original? Any ideas on mild but not noticeable engine mods? Thanks all.
  2. You could get 2/1-2 inch dropped spindles from Jamco then cut 1/2 to 1 coil for a 3-4 inch total drop.Check their website soon cause they were having a sale and they are about $100 less than fatmans. Youll have to heat and drop the steering arms the equivilent 2/1-2 inches
  3. Nice front bumper override off 40 special. Needs rechrome, has mounting braces.$65 plus shipping. Rich 360-263-1022 5-9 pac time
  4. Generally its sloppy linkage to the accelerator pump. The pump lever hasto move at the same time as the throttle linkage. Otherwise you open the throttle blades with no corresponding fuel shot resulting in bog. This assumes the accelerator pump is in good shape. Sometimes a slight straightening of the link will do it. Good luck.
  5. Shipping would be more than the car is worth.
  6. I have a local guy interested at $700 but not much else. I just sold a good solid 55 century to a guy in Australia. I wanted $6500 and no one in the U.S. was up for it so he hit buy it now and its headed there now. Just came back from THE biggest west coast swap meet here in Portland,ORE. I was really dismayed at the astronomical prices guys are still asking given the economy. But what do you do?
  7. Funny thing I noticed a couple years back.My wife and I were attending The Goodguys at Scottsdale being held at the grounds adjacent to the building where the auction is held. We walked over to the auction building (which was closed) and noticed a sign on the door that said'these proceedings are televised,if you dont want to be recognized do not enter'. My wife and I got a laugh out of that but wondered who would not want thier face shown?
  8. I have a 40 special 4dr sed. for sale that could be a parts car or rebuilder or whatever.Trunk floor, inner bottom of front door, rusted away, rest is pretty solid. No missing pieces, engine free turns over, last started 2 or 3 years ago. Clear title $650 Rich,360-263-1022 LaCenter Washington
  9. Sure enough I drilled out 1 rivet and the arm spread out enough for the cross shaft to fall out. Thanks folks
  10. does any one have a working temp gauge for a 53 super other than the one on ebay?
  11. Thanks, I kind of guessed that after looking at the service manual for my 55 Century. It says spread the lower control arm apart with a bar, which I did recently when I rebuilt the 55's. Looks like I'm in for some drillpress time. Thanks guys.
  12. I could use the same pieces if any one else has them.
  13. I have one if youre interested.Needs blasted/painted. $10 plus shipping.
  14. Thanks Mark, I'll call you later mon.or tue.
  15. Does any one know how to get the innercross shafts out of the lower control arms on a 40 Special? Looks like they were put in then the spring pocket riveted on to capture the shaft. Any ideas?
  16. Best option is to find a 55 special and convert to manual!!!!!
  17. Its going into a 40 special. I have a damaged 3.42 out of my 55 Century. I've read that 37-55 are interchangeable.
