  1. Robert, I don't think I can as I kept enlarging it on my computer until it got too blurry. Jay 1931 Cadillac Town Sedan
  2. I blew it up as much as possible and it appears to be no later than a 1931. Still has a sun visor over the front window. It appears that the radiator is missing as the front of the hood is slipping forward. The wheels are some sort of disc. Solid like a Packard, but a disc that flares out. As everyone stated, it appears to be an early car at a later date. Jay 1931 Cadillac Town Sedan
  3. I posted an inquiry about the 1955 Starfire Convertible under the Oldsmobile Forum, but thought I might get some knowledge from the General Forum: My questions were the following: Did the car have a Continental Kit as an option or was it aftermarket? The particular car I'm looking at also has dual tailpipes in lieu of a single tailpipe and was the original upholstery leather or vinyl? Thanks for the help from all the experts out there! Regards, Jay Kingston 1931 Cadillac
  4. I'm looking to buy a 1955 Starfire Convertible. The car currently has a Continental Kit, dual tail pipes and no piping in the two-toned upholstery. Can the Oldsmobile experts out there tell me if in fact the Continental Kit is factory (as an option) or aftermarket, if the car had two tail pipies or one, and if the upholstery should be leather or vinyl. Thanks in advance for all your help! Jay Kingston 1931 Cadillac
  5. Ken, Did you ever sell your car on E-Bay? John
  6. Ken, I agree with you. The Manufacturer's should let people be aware of the size. I have the same problem on my 1931 Cadillac. They fit in the wells when deflated by about a 1/3. Jay
  7. All Right! Here's a challenge! Someone out there has to have an early picture showing Trippes on factory literature or a factory picture. Thanks everyone for the input! Jay 1931 Cadillac Town Car 1934 Buick 40
  8. So it sounds as if the Trippe lights were a late 20's ('28 or '29) accessory? Haven't seen them on any earlier cars. My '31 Caddy has them, but was looking to see if I could dress up a car from 1927. Jay 1931 Cadillac 355A Town Sedan
  9. Same thing with me for my 1934 Buick. SCAM!!! The unsolicited e-mails lasted for about 4 months, then subsided. Jay 1931 Cadillac 355A Town Car
  10. Frank, Thanks a lot for the history lesson. I appreciate you taking the time to write such an extensive review. I had no idea that they were an accessory at such an early stage in automotive history. And yes, I agree with you on the Locomobile. I remember seeing one at the Harrah's Automobile Collection as a kid. I still have the book my parents bought for me showing a wide variety of the cars and in the back of the book, it listed all of the cars that were in the collection. 11. I'm looking at purchasing another car. Instead of the 30's I've found one I like from the mid 20's. Though I've never been a fan of the drum lights, this car has appeal. My question is............When did automobiles come equipped or start using the fog lights and Trippe lights? Maybe the simplicity of the front is what gives the car its allure? Thanks! Jay
  12. Tom, Are you going to be displaying all these items at car events or are they for your own home "museum" with your car? If you are going to display with your car at events, you don't want too much stuff that is going to "junk" it up and take away from the car itself. With my 1931 Cadillac, I have a dispay case (1" x 36" x 18" with a black velevet background) with the original leather shop book, the original owners manual, original sales brochure, a 1931colored ad from a magazine of the car and a Roosevelt window sticker (no bumper stickers in that era). It looks great, it's separate from the car, and people always comment about it. Jay
  13. Tom, Go to the SuperYellow Pages online, put in what you're looking for (vintage clothing) and location (Smithfield, RI) and stores will pop-up. Looks like there's one in Greenville. Also, put in Providence and something should pop-up. Good luck! Jay
  14. Tom, The one thing no one has mentioned was the option between wood (standard) and wire wheels. Also, the hood ornament. The side vents being nickel or just painted steel. Sidemount tires. I'm going off of what where offered on my 1931 Cadillac Town Car. It has all the factory options.....wire wheels..... $20 extra for the hood ornament. $5 extra for the nickel plated side vents. $240 for the sidemount spare tires. Side mount mirrors. Cigarette lighters, ashtray and a cigarette holder with filterless old cigarettes still inside. Jay
  15. Everybody beat me to the punch! I was going to say I'd head right back to Rhode Island to Laferriere's place! I guess everyone has the same thought! Tom, I think you need to open a branch out here in CA. The weather has been in the 70's here in the SF Bay Area. Invitations open! Jay
  16. I too, have a 1931 Cadillac Town Sedan. Last year Keith McGowan had asked the same question on the Cadillac-LaSalle website and actually ended up getting a sample of the paint colors. Keith can be reached at 253-841-1126 (Washington State) E-Mail: oldcars@comcast.net Jay
  17. Gents, A quick follow-up on the "shimmering" problem on the 1931 Cadillac. I had the Steering Modulator Springs replaced and the car ran fine up to about 25 miles an hour when once again, it began to shimmy, though it did stop when I slowed down. Shims were inserted to bring the caster back to the recommended angle. I don't know if I had mentioned that the steering is extremely hard.....like a Mack truck with no power steering. Could the steering box be part of the problem? Thanks again for the help and suggestions. Looks like we are finally nailing it down! Jay
  18. I recently saw a green 1931 or 32 for sale on Hubcap Cafe. Go to resources and look at the dealers. Good luck! Jay
  19. Johan, You hit the nail on the head! It was a broken shackle spring (steering modulator spring). Sent a check today to Dick Shappy who has 4 of them in stock. Jay Novato, CA
  20. Stude8, This is worth a million words. Thanks! I printed our conversation earlier this afternoon and brought it to the tire and brake shop. The owner looked at it and said they could do it with no problems. He asked the width of the springs, 2", and will set out to find the correct shims. I am going to print this out and bring it down to them on Monday. This is invaluable! Again, everything is much appreciated! Jay Novato, CA
  21. Stude8, Thanks so much for the re-inforcement on what Owen had stated earlier. On the thread "Can you say shimmy", it appears that this problem is common and can be corrected by inserting the wedges. I'll check my Tire and Brake Shop here in town since they do work on the old cars and see if they have any. If not, you'll see an add in the WTB section of this forum. Thanks, again! Jay Novato, CA
  22. The snow is absolutely beautiful! But that's why we live in Sunny California! Jay 1931 Cadillac Town Car (the pride of the fleet!) 1934 Buick Series 40 1935 Buick Series 50 1982 380 SL 2004 Bentley Arnage
  23. Perfect! A lot of information and a few "smart ass" remarks! Funny, though! Jay
