Daves1940Buick56S
On my 1938 66s I need to bring back those areas that have some black accents, like the letters and rings on the hubcaps, and the areas on the front of the grill. I know Gary has done this on his '37. What type of paint is best for this? Enamel model paint? Or I have some Rustoleum gloss black? And do you apply a bit of clear after or just leave it be? Cheers, Dave
trimacar
A lot of people use One Shot for trim work, it takes a while to dry but lasts well, and ends up smooth when brushed on.....
dibarlaw
Dave: I did the spray gloss black and then wipe with lacquer thinner on my hub caps and the trim areas. They have lasted for 6 years so far.
Daves1940Buick56S
Thanks all! I ordered One-Shot and will try that. Cheers, Dave
neil morse
Gary W. went to a print shop and got vinyl cut to fit the B U I C K recesses on his hubcaps. You can find pics on his '37 Restoration thread. Looks super! I'm thinking of doing the same. Neil
RiKi5156B
For recessed areas I’ve always used spray and wiped the surrounding surfaces carefully with a rag wrapped around my finger dipped in lacquer thinner. Comes out looking good as factory applied. No gloppy brush marks that way.
