WTB: Classic VW Beetle (Year and Model Depends)

Hello friends!

A couple days ago I posted a thread asking for tips on how to learn about cars. After quite a bit of research I've decided on buying a a Beetle to restore and learn from somehow!

I'm curious as to if anyone has a classic Beetle (Year and Model depends. It can honestly be any classic Beetle year, though I imagine something before the 60's would be quite expensive to restore.) that is fairly rough and needs to be restored with a LOT of work. I live in Arkansas so if it were anywhere in Arkansas that would be pretty nice, but, of course, I'll look at beetles from any of Arkansas' neighboring states! (Though there isn't a guarantee I'll for sure buy them.) I'm thinking for something fairly cheap as well. I won't state a budget as I'll weigh my options but let's just say something maybe around a couple hundred as I want something with LOTS of work to be done so it'll be the best learning process possible.

If someone has something, I'll look into it for sure but of course I'll weigh my options with other Beetles I find on sale from other sources as well!

I've usually had pretty good results with www.autabuy.com and www.carsforsale.com too........but not this time.

One of our AACA region members in Pennsylvania

has a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle coupe for sale.

It has been in the process of being restored, but it was not

finished.  His asking price of $4000 includes $3000

worth of VW parts not yet installed.  Bodywork is mostly

done, he said, and the seats have been redone.  It reportedly

includes all parts needed to finish the car.

Basically, he is an older man, and it is a "stalled restoration"

now for sale.  I'll send you a Private Message with his

contact information.

Hello, so did you found one? Show us. Love VW project

I did! The thread can be found here: http://forums.aaca.org/topic/264010-1971-standard-vw-beetle/ I'm very sorry I didn't update the thread . The thread is a little slow as of right now due to me being busy with cleaning out the garage so that I can work on it, as well as the holidays, but hopefully I'll be up and ready for further restoration soon! Thank You!

As for what it is, it's a '71 standard sedan that I picked up for $500. It has pretty minor rust, and the rust it has isn't bad at all. Pan and body are both original. Has been rear ended once but it's not all that bad. (Actually, whoever repaired it did a pretty good job.) It came with most of the parts we need to restore it.

As for the engine, it did not have; however, my Grandpa gave me his old engine that he used to race with. It's out of a 1965 VW bus and he souped it up nicely to have around 110hp. 300ML single-port heads. All around a pretty good engine!
