HarryLime
What would be the reason for dual plates/registration ? I have never heard of that ! Thanks
drwatson
It's April 26, 1923. Washington, D.C. "Automobiles at ballpark, opening game, Nationals-Athletics."Curious about the "two plates".
drwatson
The following quote from Registration Reciprocity explains the reason for dual lic. plates seen in D.C. prior to 1924: "motorists that routinely crossed a specific boundary had to register their vehicles in both (or more than two, such as D.C., Md., and Va.) until a reciprocity agreement was reached. ply33
They all look to be of a similar year indicating the earlier vehicles were replaced before they were very old! There were many people just buying their first car in that era so the number of new cars out numbered the used ones. Also, automotive technology was advancing very rapidly during that era. About the same as, say, cell phones are today. How many 5 or 10 year old cell phones do you see today? nzcarnerd
1923 was a big year for new car sales - after the brief depression of 1920-21. I guess these owners were more wealthy and most had new cars.

TexRiv_63
This is a neat photo, a friend sent it to me earlier. If you look it up directly on Shorpy.com you can see a much larger high-def version.
