Congrats Charlie Russo on Senior with your '80 Rabbit!

Also Charlie Kirchner in our class with his '54 Bug!

And Harold Burkholder First Junior with the Fontana Grey '65 Bug too! </div></div>

Thanks Steve. I was unable to stay for the banquet and had to read the results when posted.

I second the congrats to Charlie K. and Harold B.

I was able to speak with Harold at the show but missed seeing Charlie. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Let's not forget Peter Burgess with his '70 Ghia and you and your '54. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Two more people I was not able to see. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Did you happen to see Ron Mann's '74 Thing @ Hershey? Gotta love that original yellow color!

Ah, Preservation is nowhere near the pressure-cooker that you, Charlie, and Harold had to go thru, Charlie!

Peter B's '70 Ghia was preservation also, wasn't it? (I remember being positively bowled over by that car when I saw it for the first time at Campbelltown a couple of Springs ago).

I saw Ron listed in the DPC class in the results, but didn't see him or his car.

Congrats once again for the well-deserved award, Charlie. You are indeed a pioneer (I'd suspect the first-ever *water cooled VW* ever to hit First Junior and Senior?!).

Charlie ? It was real nice to see your 1980 Rabbit. Congratulations! I am the fellow that admired your car and talked to you about building them in New Stanton, PA. It was my job to install the main wiring harness under the hood. Looking under your radiator, I think I may have had a hand in building it. I always placed the wires to the lights & horns in the clips with the thickest wire on the bottom to the thinnest (VW did not care how neat they were). I worked on 1 of 4 during the 1980 model year. It?s hard to believe that the cars we built are now considered antiques. Seems like only yesterday.

Attached is a photo I snapped of your car.

Mark, It was a pleasure talking with you at Fall Hershey this year. Your comment about my Rabbit being "Correct" means a lot coming from someone who probably built it. BTW, my Rabbit was built in February of 1980 according to the sticker on the driver's door frame and I purchased it on Saturday, March 15, 1980.

Too bad we did not have more time to talk at the show. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I really enjoyed hearing about how VWs were built at New Stanton when you worked there. BTW, did I tell you at the show that my next restoration project will be my 1981 VW Pickup? It is great to know that you are on-line so expect an email or two from me in the future. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Yes, it does seem like only yesterday even though it has been 26 years now. Time flies when you are having fun!

Steve, thanks for the support and encouragement, it is much appreciated.

Thanks Steve. And, thanks to the Lord for getting me through all of these. They'll all up. I can now rest until Saturday morning and Ocala pictures. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I'll be keeping you guys up to date each day while I'm sunning myself in Florida. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Sorry Dizz, there's no snow in Ocala, temperatures to be around 89 degrees Sunday. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Ocala--tough job but someone's got to do it, I guess, Wayne! It's going to hit 70 degrees today in CT, though--not too bad for mid-October--might have to take a half day & get out and enjoy it. There's a hot rod show happening in South Glastonbury, CT this coming Saturday too--and supposedly a decent day for it also (if you believe the weatherman).

Anyway, I have a few Hershey images (like this cool logo'd Crosley in the flea market==attachment) that I'll try to get uploaded to the photo gallery area next chance I get. Thanks again for your efforts Wayne and getting all those shots posted.

The Crosley in the picture was parked in the vacant space next to ours on the Chocolate field on Tuesday. The gentleman in the next space over is a big Crosley collector from Iowa. It seems the owners of the Crosley drove it to Hershey from New Hampshire or Vermont and had a part fail, so they parked it there while trying to figure out how to fix it. Must have been a pretty exiting drive. It was a neat car, but somewhat overpriced.

That's interesting input, Rich--thanks. What do you suppose the significance of "ROSIE" spelled out on the ground in front of it was?

I noticed in studying the markings on the windshield that it appeared to have a $6,500 asking price, and 14,000 one-owner miles.

The "Cambridge" marking on the side, plus the apparently vintage plate, both suggest Massachusetts origins. It looked very complete, with (apparent?) rear tail gate logo, and Crosley script hubcaps.

I also found subsequently that WTAO--now WJIB--from Cambridge, MA--started up operations in 1948, ref: http://www.bostonradio.org/stations/6146.html - so that puts this Crosley mobile support truck right in the correct era, I would say...
