Reatta Supercharger conversion

From what I understand the weak point in using a supercharged engine in a Reatta is the stock transmission. How much of a problem would it be to pick up a supercharged engine and trans out of a regal t type and make the whole swap? Any thoughts on this possibility? Frank

Sure, mechanically it would be fairly simple, the problem is that the ECM in a Reatta also drives the dashboard and the "E" transmission uses a different ECM. Aligning the data streams for an OBD I computer is possible but not yet done but an OBD-II (1995-up) would be very difficult.

Now the 1991 Reatta did use an "E" transmission so that ECM could be modified but for an 88-89 it might be better to start with an 1993-4 Park Avenue ECM.

This has been discussed a lot in the past.

As you probably know, I'm the maker of the hybrid LN3/L67.

What year T-Type are you speaking of? From what I know, like an '88 would be the same drivetrain as a Reatta, so no advantages.

As Padget mentioned, the '91 Reattas use the electronic 4T60-e. Like a '94 Park Avenue Ultra with the L67 has a 4T60-HD, which I suppose is "beefed up." I don't think it would be a problem to get this transmission to work with the Reatta's ECM.

We know that the 4T60 probably is the weak spot in the drivetrain, but I can't say from experience. I'm running a big tranny cooler and Mobil 1 ATF and have had the setup running for about 7k miles now. I haven't had any issues, with a total of 160k miles on my transaxle (still original).

2seater is pushing like 260 hp with his turbo setup for a while and he hasn't had any issues. It's true that turbos make more higher end power and superchargers are making torque right off the line. He made the point that automatics can handle more power with more RPM.

I still want to convert to a manual and be free of these troubles . I'm researching the 6 speed in the G6 GT.

F14 said it pretty well, discretion on how the power is used will determine a lot of the longevity of the stock transaxle. I suppose there are a couple of things you could do, install a theoretically stronger transaxle to start with, maybe the mate to whatever engine you choose, or, drive it until it breaks and then upgrade As Padgett mentioned, controlling a foreign engine is one part of the problem, although F14 has that operational, and the electronic transmission will add another control "opportunity".

what would it take to put a super in. I would like my Reatta to have a little more bite to it's bark. And as well as where to get another belt that would loop the super. I supose that you could get one for a super Park Avenue. I dont think that it would take much other than replacing the air phlenum. Also, I wonder if it would be possible to put a super gain in the dash or somewhere to see how much psi the super is putting out. if you could e-mail me back with any info. arronhultquist@yahoo.com
