Reatta agegroups yes - but how about geographics?

I've read alot of the discussions about the age group that are driving our lovely cars, but how about the distribution of reattas in the US or even abroad? I live in the Twin Cities area, and it seems like I have seen quite a few of these cars. Barney - do you have any database info on this?

In the area where I go to school (Va. Tech), the car is so rare that I have seen only one other one since I bought it over a year ago. The local Buick Dealership never even sold one new I don't think frown.gif. It is a curiosity to just about everyone. Whenever I go out to a busy public place, it seems there is always someone asking about it. It took me a year to find a mechanic I trust that will even give it a second look. Most won't touch it.
When I go home to the Williamsburg area of Va, I see them more frequently, but still only one every 2-3 weeks, except for the one that lives in the same neighborhood. Ironically the one I see practically everyday is an exact duplicate of my Blue 89. Even has the factory sunroof like mine, weird rolleyes.gif. The last time I was home I saw a blue 91 Convert, had to chase it down and talk to the owner. Unfortunately, I don't think he had any idea what he was driving. confused.gif

I live in Temecula, CA (Wine Country) I owned a 1991 White/Tan Coupe. In this city of about 60,000, I have seen at least four...one a black convertible.

I live in the metro-DC area and Reattas are fairly rare. I see them once every several weeks on the road; however, there are three Reattas in my neighborhood: an 88-89 silver coupe and two red/tan convertibles. I hope to one day purchase one of them.

Reattas are rare around south central Pa.
The Washington Post Sunday car pages classified has about 1 or 2 listed per month.

From middle Ga.,or nowhere. The Atlanta paper always has 3 to 5 for sale (150 miles north)I have seen only one,88,in past 6 years however sold a 91 to a party 30 miles from here who also had an 89. Was offered a 90 conv. by Buick dealer in Macon,6 years ago,40,000 miles, for 13k.bought my 89 at auction in 93.

Well, I live here in Baltimore, Md. I've heard that there are at least four in the MD area (from a dealer in Ellicott City, MD) but other than the one my dealer bought from an auction in Annaheim(?), Pa. (the gray 89 I told everyone about), which by the way went to a leather re-upholstery company owner that owns the shop next to the dealer, I have never seen a Reatta in te Maryland area. (And I thought I had seen it all!) In fact, I didn't even know Buick made a 2-seater as I was engrossed in my '75 Charger at the time.
Now, I guess it's everyone elses turn to look, marvel, and be jealous! grin.gif Heads turn and horns beep everywhere I go. And I just love it!! tongue.gif I was going to get a '90-91 Nissan 240SX (another classic in it's own right), but I'm more than pleased with my Reatta. I'm glad to say, I never desired anything else again after that first test drive and don't think I ever will again!

Hi All! I live in Mechanicsville, VA, which is about 10 miles north of Richmond. I'm the original owner of a white 1988, that was purchased from a local Buick Dealer.

I bought mine when I lived in Maryland, until 3 years later when one afternoon I started driving and didn't stop until 3 and a half days later I was in California(well I did stop like 10 times for gas).
Where I am living in Santa Cruz there aren't alot of reatta sightings, though they do pop up from time to time. I see more where i work in Silicon Valley. It still turns heads even though it's also not unusual to see a Ferrari and even the occasional Lamborghini.

I live in the Twin City area. Whenever I tell someone I have a Reatta, (if they know what a Reatta is) they ask me if it's red. I purchased my RED 88 Reatta in the Brownsville Texas area a few years ago. I brought the car to MN intending to resell it. I knew the car needed brake work when I bought it but I had no idea how involved it was going to get. The more I learned about the Reattas the more I liked them. Now I am hooked. The car was an everyday driver so there were a number of little things that needed attention. Now I am in a severe "while you are at it mode". Somebody stop me!!! I have really grown attached to the car; however, I am getting an itch for a convertible!

I live in central Texas. Three hours from Houston and the same distance from Dallas.
The Austin Buick dealer is reportedly one of the highest volume dealers in the country. Don't know how many they sold but as reported recently, there were 6 Reattas in the Austin paper last month. I have owned a total of 5, 4-1990's, 1-1991. There are several in the area and recently knew of 4 convertibles in Round Rock, a town of 50K north of Austin.
Marc just published the Reatta club membership by state last issue... that doesn't tell us where the cars are but gives some idea where the interest is.
------------------
Barney Eaton Reatta technical advisor for BCA and keeper of the Reatta database.
[This message has been edited by Barney Eaton (edited 05-11-2000).]

We live in the puget sound megatropolos, (Puyallup actually) and are original owners of a white 88. Neighbor down the hill has a blue 88, and my old video store owner has a blue 88.
I see reattas almost every day in the Seattle area.
and to sorta respond to the age post, we are in the mid forties.
Our reatta has about 110K miles, had an engine transplant last summer (broken piston, cheaper to longblock than to rebuild), a new ECM shortly after that, and a new CRT this month. Other than the engine (luck of the draw I am sure), we have been very happy with the quality of this car.
Did own a really nice Regal as well, but found out that it did not float.

I live in the Chicago area. There are several Reattas around here, but I see them very rarely. I get a lot of curious looks at my car. Once at a fast food drive-thru, the 16 yr. old kid that took my order looked at my car, then paused for a moment before he said, "That's a pretty cool car"...I was in Heaven the rest of the day! LOL grin.gif

REATTAS ARE VERY RARE IN THE ALBANY NY AREA. I HAVE SEEN ONLY THREE IN THE LAST FEW YEARS. JUDGING BY REATTAS OFFERED FOR SALE, I THINK MICHIGAN AND AREAS NEAR THERE HAVE THE MOST REATTAS.SECOND WOULD BE THE AREA FROM MARYLAND DOWN THROUGH THE CAROLINAS. [MID-ATLANTIC REGION]

My Select Sixty is in Sausalito, CA. When I bought the car new in '91, I had a discussion with the brand manager at Buick and asked about geographic distribution. He said that they were evenly distributed around the country, but tended to cluster in expensive suburbs.

Barney, watch out, a lot of those Texas Reattas seem to be heading to the Twin Cities. I also went to Texas to find a clean 90 Burgandy conv. Drove it home to Minnesota, and haven't looked back. Just last weekend, our Buick club chapter hosted a show, and there were four Reattas seen there. Not too bad. I live on the north side of town and rarely see them driving around, I am sure the south siders see them more often. I am glad to see so many responses from the Twin Cities area, I would love to see many of these cars at the Regional Show we are having in August. See the earlier post on the Y2k Heartland Regional show. cool.gif

Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. We have an 88 white coupe, smoked windows. I've seen one other Reatta in Winnipeg. I've tried each time to follow it & talk to whoever drives it, with no luck. Other than that, I've never ever seen another driving, anywhere.

I live in a small one square mile community called Orangeville. It is loated about 30 miles from Youngstown Ohio. There are two 89 coupes in town. My Black one and a neighbor's silver one w/ all the factory options. Outside of our town is South Pymatuning PA. Someone there owns a red coupe w/matching trim, but I don't know what year. There is another red coupe about seven miles out of town in Brookfield OH, but I don't know the year there either, but the owner did put on a pretty outlandish, huge spoiler so it's kind of hard to miss. tongue.gif
[This message has been edited by Adrienne (edited 05-14-2000).]

In Charlotte NC I see two or three Reattas a month. Most seem to be 90's in Blue, White, Black and of course the Red. My 89 Red seems more rare than the 90. I do see an occassional 91 and a few 88s also. The days of finding them on a used car lot seem to have passed though.

I live near Freehold NJ and have a burgandy/burgandy 1990 coupe.I see at least four other reattas within a 20 mile radius. A couple of years ago I drove to the beach and was able to park mine next to a white reatta.I left him a note but never heard back.

I live in Evanston, IL just north of Chicago. I see a fair number of them around here but disappear and are replaced by others. In the last 12 months I saw a white convertible and black coupe. A red one seems to temporarily live nearby. My 89 is in indefinite storage until I get a chance to fix the headlights.

I live in the Netherlands, Europe. A small village at the border of a lake. I'm driving my Reatta for almost 4 years. It is a grey'89 with a grey leather interior. As far as I know there are three or four Reattas in Holland but I saw never one on the road. My car is bought in Miami at an aucktion. I love the car but had my share of troubbles with the brakes and the ignition and at the moment with the computer -see topic 'the computer'-
Every day I see people looking at my car and from their faces I can tell what they are thinking:... "What's that for a car?"

I live in Kissimmee, FL; gateway to DisneyWorld. There are more Reattas here than I can believe given the production numbers on these cars. When I used to commute daily the length and breadth of the City of Orlando (from my West-side house to the University on the far Eastern edge), I would see at least one Reatta a week, and not always the same car. There was one guy from Tampa who had one identical to mine and he would pass me going 90 mph on the Interstate every few weeks. A nod and a wave are all it takes! smile.gif
Boston, MA...I actually see more than most people here see (maybe a different one every two weeks), but sadly for the most part they're not kept up very well (except of course for Tony's red coupe and blue convert!) so I don't think most owners don't realize or appreciate them like we do. Alot are kids who I suspect got them as hand-me-downs from parents.
I did see one guy in a blue 91...he saw me too, waved & honked, so I turned around and caught up to him, and shouted "BUICKCLUB.ORG". I think he was half-freaked out so don't know if he made it here; if this is you and you're reading this, sorry to weird you out!

In our Charleston, S.C. area...lets see...along with our black '89 coupe, we know of one red '90 on Folly Beach, a white convertible downtown and two maroon coupes in Summerville. One lady, a dog groomer on John's Island, owns THREE! A small-lot dealer on James Island sells about one a month.

We are just south of Charleston in Beaufort, SC. We have a 90 Red Convertible that I purchased new in Mt. Kisco , NY. In addition, there is another Red Convertible w/ red side molding on Cat Island, an 89 Maroon Coupe that an employee of a Chrysler dealer has, and a white coupe year unknown.
