I actually believe all 1950 Custom 8s came with Ultramatic.

Ultramatic was made the standard-equipment transmission on the 23rd Series 1949 Custom Eights when it became available and all 1950 Custom Eights.  To have a manual shift with overdrive Custom Eight one would best pursue a 1948-'49 Custom Eight.   By our current standards, Ultramatic is bit languid in performance but fulfilled the expectations of that era for an automatic transmission to deliver smooth, turbine-like performance.

Our 53 Caribbean had the two speed automatic. It really wasn’t as bad as you would think. And that was only the 327 engine.

GM's 2 speed automatic (Powerglide, nick named Powerslide) was a favorite of the drag crowd and in use into the 1970's. The attraction was the high stall speed of the torque converter. I wonder if Packard's could be made more responsive with a different converter.....(no doubt way more trouble than it's worth)

Do not remember anybody actually using a Packard transmission for drag racing. I have to say that the four speed jet flight General Motors transmission in our Rolls Royce is much much better. A common conversion for the Packard was the Chrysler torque flight.

However, for the purposes of discussion, it’s a perfectly adequate transmission.
